Full Review of the AFL called for by Swans and Hawks
old dee replied to Diamond_Jim's topic in Melbourne Demons
Over the next two years IMO it will be vital to remain financially viable, even more important than winning a flag. We are currently not reliant on AFL assistance. We need to stay that way but as you say I can only see a drop in memberships next year. The really bad part is we cannot afford paying out contracts. -
I feel the MFC should give North a hand. Among other things they now have no coach. We should loan them our coach for the next two seasons. Seems only fair to me.

As they say DJ every cloud has a silver lining. The only way that GCS and GWS will be disbanded is if Gil is replaced. Gil would lose too much face if he is in charge. -

After the failure of our merger I don't think there will ever be one in the future. What will probably happen is a club will get into the Fitzroy position. The AFL will take it over and either move it or close it up. -

Not while we have Gil in charge. We need a new chief from outside the current old boys club. Someone who does not need to save face. -

As much as it grieves me to say but being finiancial sound may be the biggest element of the next couple of years. -

With luck we might get some people running the game who are outside of the old boys club that runs it now . It is vital over the next couple years to have no or low debt. Clubs like North Melbourne must be close to extinction. Makes the need to offer members something extra if they want reasonable numbers. -
They can have him, way too inconsitant. Plays a good quarter then vanishes.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BEN BROWN

Its called money! -
We have seldom played hard ball with players like him. I will be surprised if we don't agree to fair deal for both sides. We seem to have a good relationship with GWS I don't see us doing an Essendon and asking for way too much.

Why if it comes with a large debt. -
Where does that leave Carlton, are they going to have there own seconds team?

But we have to want him and I don’t think he suits our game style. We don’t seem to be able to hit a leading Weideman let alone another of the same type. And why do North want him out so badly. Something does not ring right with this one. -

It wasn’t him, trio of Michael Warner, Jay Clark and Jon Ralph. I think they are the only ones with deep enough pockets. -
I wondered about that as well DJ. It entrenches the crazy system of the past when there were numerous weeks where players coming Back from injury or dropped for poor form could not get on the field to gain form or return from injury. Seems nuts to me but I have the feeling It is more about the cost of staging the competition than anything. Less games equals lower cost. In the world of 2021 I cannot see there will be the ability to fly around the country like in the past. I still struggle with the cost of having a second level competition that flys around the country. The cost would be substantial.
-
Of course it does depend on how badly GWS want him, if they are desperate for A ready made ruckman they may be prepared to pay overs to get him.
-
That is what I thought about Lewis and we ended up getting 2 good years and a reasonable third year.

Ok yes you are correct they offered and he did not take the offer. -
Another not quite right, like Brown why after 12 months do North want him out. Both players have big dollar contracts You would think the only North will get rid of them is if they pay part of their salaries. A bit like when We wanted Watts out.

According to today’s HUN Essendrug are first in line for him. Looks the likely spot to me. The question is why after signing him to a big new contract do North want him out12 months later? -
LN are you saying we will get pick 9 for Preuess? Not going to happen second round at best for an average ruckman.
-
There will be no takers and I can see him walking away at the end of 2021.
