The owner wanted to get a pokies licence but some local wowser group and the council opposed it. It went to VCAT and he was rolled. He owns two other pubs with pokies so basically, he cracked the [censored] and closed it. I don't give a flyer either way about pokies but the council was small minded in this. They and the community would have been better off to work with the owner. IE demand certain improvements and investments for their support. There have been some attempts to revive it but without success.

Thank you for your aristocratic concern Earl. Yes, the local Public House is as dead as that famous parrot, and has been for some years. A dispute over " one armed bandits", was the crux of the problem. A sad sign of the times but I do keep The Manor's cellar amply stocked.

Can't believe some of the above posts. People actually go to the footy and don't drink booze!!! I just opened a Shiraz to help recover from the shock.

A few going for a Melbourne/Filth Grand Final. That would be huge but I can't see it - Collingwood are not good enough. Clarrie for the Brownlow. I would love it but sadly can't see it either. He and Trac just pick each other's pockets too much.

I watched the game against Richmond and actually thought we were too good for pre season - it liked abut round six form. I'll be an interested watcher of the tigers tonight to try and get a gauge on our form.

As usual I shall manoeuvre my prodigious buttocks into my reserved seat on Saturday and drink plenty of overpriced beer. I expect Moonshadow ( a defrocked Demonlander) will also be there ...and possibly Biffen ( also a defrocked Demonlander). I expect nothing less than a comfortable victory over the denizens of Melbourne's less salubrious barrio .

Indeed dc - the good old days! Who can forget a day at the footy (or moreso a day at the cricket) with a few mates and an esky roughly the size of a ute's tub.

I'll just add my worst. The price of beer, I believe is going up again. A very moderate intake of say one pregame and one per quarter would leave a $50 plus hole in The Manor's coffers.

In order to get some value in a pre season multi, I have included Port Adelaide in my final eight. Not much love for them above - does anyone else think they can make it?
