Completely off topic, but I heard Scully's manager talking on AFL 360 tonight; is he a former jockey or has he just been organising the helium filled balloons for a kids birthday party?

Perhaps by saying he was "signed sealed and delivered" (emphasis on "signed")? There's none so blind as them that can't see.

he stood up in front of a packed press gallery and stated exactly what his situation was. The fact that the journos saw fit to ask every player what they thought is hardly down to Scully's silence - that is simply a case of journos being journos. Gave him his big break???? Yes, I'm sure if we hadn't selected him, he would have come out at the end of the draft without a contract - he's lucky we saw his talent while every other team in the comp didn't have a clue.. There are two offers on the table (one from MFC and one from GWS) and it has been stated in crystal clear terms that he will not be considering them until season's end. How this can be perceived as disrespecting Jimmy, Dean or anyone else is way beyond me. He is being completely honest and transparent in his dealings. He is still under contract and as such is under no obligation to sign up for a new contract yet. He is behaving like a responsible and very intelligent kid.

The media approach him or the club send him to the media; I doubt very much he actually chases the media around. I thought we had out-grown this whole tall poppy syndrome thing a long time ago... seems I was wrong.

Possibly the fact that it is not such a big difference (unless you want to live on the harbour). Melbourne's median house price $505,000 compared to Sydney's $525,000. Overall, apparently the cost of living is 6% higher in Sydney, but that is almost entirely down to the cost of property and transport - in most other areas relating to daily living, Sydney is cheaper (food, entertainment etc).

Pssst.. he is correct, I just went and checked my Concise Oxford English Dictionary and it is actually "naive" (but since you are picking people up on poor spelling, it is "acquainted"). Anyway, now that this is all out in the open, I wouldn't be surprised if we get some sort of defining statement from Scully and the club in the near future.

Yes, I'm sure that Scully's management were aware of things, but I'm also not so naive as to believe that Scully would have been privy to everything that was going on behind closed doors. My point is that Scully has not lied and he has publicly indicated his desire to go forward with our club (when GWS's figure of $5m was already known), so I see no reason to doubt his word.

I was thinking almost exactly the same thing...if that had been a word association test, the first thing to pop into my head would be "Joh Bjelke-Petersen".

Firstly, I'm firmly in the camp that believes he is NOT going anywhere - just as we must all believe now that he didn't lie when he stated he had not signed anything, I believe we should also believe him when he said he was looking forward to his future with the club. Also, if Jack7's calculations are correct and there is just an after tax difference of $220,000 in the earnings he could achieve at both clubs, then you can be sure that our club will be looking at ways of closing that gap via tax relief, endorsements and so on - it is in no way insurmountable. Publicly "agitating" for proper compensation will not achieve anything other than to put us offside with the AFL... I'm sure the club is well on the front foot when it comes to being prepared to make the appropriate approaches to the AFL if worse comes to worst.

Let's face it RR, if he does stay, when Free Agency comes into play, you'll be there at the frontlines preparing us for Scully's imminent departure.

Agree as well; however, I get the feeling that a Franklin (who already has experienced a GF) or a Goddard who might like the opportunity to lead a young club while building a nice retirement fund (especially as he is currently with a club in decline), would be more likely to take up such an offer. As those who thought Scully must have been lying at his press conference can now rest easy in the knowledge he was being completely honest and transparent, they should also be optimistic about the other words he spoke that day: "I love the club, I love all my teammates and I just want to be a part of the future at the footy club.".

Actually, I would think that is all we can do... nothing we say or do is going to make any difference to the final result; he will either stay or go, regardless of what gets posted here.

I would think the hidden gem is that RB got his target wrong - I think he never recovered from my referencing him as the Wanchorman.

My challenge to you RB... find one post where I have called for a poster to be banned, let alone banned for life... if you can I shall make a very public apology and if you cannot, I will expect you to do the same. Oh, and let me suggest you start by looking at post #440 on Page 11 of this thread to help you get a clue - the clock is ticking.
