Practice Match - Melbourne v Hawthorn @ Casey Fields
hardtack replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
I don't think Bali is in Thailand... besides, I heard Ketut is living in Ringwood. -
Well, in Hogan's case, it's not really a serious injury. Thankfully, it appears that the medical staff at the MFC decided to get scans done for a persistent pain and they have caught it before it could become a serious injury (that is, progress to the next stage, a stress fracture). But yes, we do seem to be able to pick them... injuries, or in the case of Fitz, ailments.
-
Love that word... very Victorian (the period, not the state)!
-
I did a bit of googling and apparently it's teh precursor to a stress fracture... so, if he rests now it will settle and all will be good... if he keeps pushing it, a stress fracture will occur and he would be in for an extended layoff. Edit: that will teach me not to refresh before I post... I see Webber answered the question a while ago.
-
What I find slightly amusing is that in true Demonland fashion, when the club says "Early signs are positive and he could potentially still play in 2 to 3 weeks or it could be longer; we just need to monitor him closely over the initial period and then a timeframe for his return will become clearer.", most posters seem to miss the first few words "Early signs are positive..." and then read the worst into the remainder. If he has been running since the game, then I think it would be fair to assume that he is not in too much discomfort and that the pain may well pass in the next couple of weeks, thus boding well for an earlier rather than later return.
-
But if the MFC was still waiting on results of scans at the time that article appeared on the AFL site, then the statement re Hogan missing x number of weeks due to stress fractures, was no more than speculation or, for wont of a better term, rumour.
-
It's interesting that still there is nothing on Real Footy and nothing on the MFC site... so far, apart from a few tweets, the only article I have seen is on the AFL website and that was from the "pen" of Damian Barrett.
-
Don't forget we still have Watts available who can play up forward... against the Saints we may be able to afford that luxury as our midfield should still be more than capable.
-
The way Brett Anderson tweeted, it appeared scan results were already in earlier today: Brett Anderson @BrettAndersonIF 2h @dizwah7 Out. Scan results today. Brett Anderson @BrettAndersonIF 2h Huge blow for the Dees. Hogan out 6-8 weeks with stress fracture in his back. #AFL

No, it's the Kavorka!

You have no idea whether he is really injured. If he is really injured, you have no idea of the severity of the injury. MFCSS!!
-
OD, you are frustrated as are we all... however, most of us (your good self included) don't extrapolate from that frustration to the point where it is the player's fault and that the player should understand how to manage their body correctly for recovery from a complicated injury/procedure... not to mention the fact that most of us don't start accusing the player/players of being lazy and disinterested. Cranky Franky overstepped the mark by a long way.
-
Well, to quote a Wayne Wang film title, "Life's Cheap. Toilet Paper's Expensive" - it all makes sense.
-
Yes, but Franky believes that players should be expert in stress management and that if they have not got on top of that science, then they are just lazy and unworthy. Myself? I believe that Franky's comments are a cry for help... he needs someone with whom he can kick his new Sherrin.

Bombers scandal: charged, <redacted> and <infracted>

It's a house of cards... and I believe it will come tumbling down in about one and a half months time. -
I think you will find that a) that pact probably was more about not going out on the turps every night and maintaining a healthy diet as well as some light training, and b) Clark and Dawes both adhere to a similar work ethic. That you could seriously suggest the players take responsibility for their training regimes and understand the implications of certain kinds of exercise post Lisfranc recovery, is an absolute joke... that is why we have people like Misson at the club and even they will not get it right 100% on the time. Sorry, but I don't think it's Sue who is being simplistic.

Hope you're right... but I get the feeling the press would get hold of it simply because of the fact it is the reigning premiers playing the Paul Roos coached Demons... it's newsworthy. -
And just what exactly is it that HE has done that p!sses you off?
-
I believe that in response to his application to join the ministry god spake unto Tony suggesting he go forth and multiply... and so he took up a ministry of another kind and has since been applying his lord's suggestion to just about anything he can think of (well, anything instigated by the opposition).
-
Tony's latest effort reeks of politics: I think even the staunchest of liberals must see that this latest effort is little more than a play for votes...and to attempt to have this forest taken off the world heritage listing, really does fit the "international embarrassment" bill perfectly... "Tasmanians go to the polls on March 15 with jobs and the forestry industry big issues as Labor struggles to hold on to government."

How about a nice pilsener or stout?

Bombers scandal: charged, <redacted> and <infracted>

I wouldn't be surprised if the pressure is on him to find cause for infraction notices to be issued, as I think that ASADA won't want to be put in a position where they could be considered toothless, the govt will want a result that will send a message to all sporting bodies, and the AFL will want their previous action of charging Essendon with bringing the game into disrepute to be validated (could Essendon take action against them in the courts if no infraction notices are forthcoming?). -

And I think the outcome could also in part be determined by how we ggo against hawthorn in our final hit-out before the season starts. If we manage a total capitulation, then we could see memberships dry up until we show what we can do against the Saints. Of course, having said that, I don't expect us to capitulate. -

I think they said that Justice Garry Downes, has until the end of April to complete his review of the ASADA briefs.
