  1. Pin this post so whenever anyone brings up the L word it can be referred to. There is no in-season loading in team sports like AFL.
  2. The chance of one becoming available, yet alone being able to get the deal done, are minimal at best. Or to put it another way, how many proven tall forwards have been traded in recent years? Jacob Koschitzke? Mabior Chol?
  3. Maybe it's not Stafford. Maybe it has something to do with the players available. Just a thought ...
  4. This is just delusional. We had one great season when everything worked, where we had basically no injuries and where McDonald and Brown were strong contributors. Since then, the list has fallen off a cliff, we have no key forwards worthy of the name for the moment - JVR can be, but he should only be taking the 2nd or 3rd defender, not coming up against the best in the league every week - beyond Lever and May we're playing kids or journeymen in the backline, Petty who held that same backline together alongside Lever/May is nowhere to be seen, we've lost Brayshaw, Langdon is a shadow of his 2021 self, Melksham is the nearest we have to a forward-line general and he's out of action ... you could go on and on. You cannot take player after player out of a team and expect there to not be consequences.
  5. It’s not an awesome list, far from it. I just don’t understand how people can keep trotting this out when the evidence to the contrary is there before us every week.

  7. Apart from all the points mentioned here, my 2 takeaways were: - If Max goes down we are well and truly rogered - come next year’s trade period, we are going to need to sign a new full back, whatever it takes
  8. Devastating news. For him, for his family, for the club - don't think re the latter enough are grasping the seriousness of this. Angus was one of the keys to our success (such as it was) last year, and I for one have no doubt that the outcome of that final would have been different without him having been taken out in such brutal fashion. On a footy level he'll forever be fondly remembered for his place in our golden year because I don't see us repeating it in the near future. Losing him is just a step too far, we already had a lot against us in terms of injuries etc but now this ... Devastating news.
  9. Yes, because mature rucks never get injuries.
  10. Upside? Having experienced, senior players around is a key part of developing for the future. We should be thankful that we still have players like Melksham and BBB around. And no doubt the club is.
  11. Plus Billings. FD on top of what the shortcomings have been and traded in accordingly. Much as we love our mids, none of them are great disposers of the ball.
  12. Sorry, but doesn't sound like Jack Viney - much as we love him of course.
  13. He will already have served 3 months by the time there's a ruling. But the club still has to have its 2 cents, so internal consequences (match ban?) coming you'd think.
  14. The fact that most of the players we’ve brought in are forwards speaks volumes as to where the FD think we are.
  15. The fact that he has played actual games in the actual AFL would tend to contradict that I would have thought.
  16. No longer one of us, but perhaps of interest in the context of current discussions re “culture” at the Dees, given that he was moved on. Hope he finds a good place. https://houseoffooty.com.au/i-was-crying-myself-to-sleep-watts-reflects-on-his-toughest-period/
  17. Also footy smarts and experience when it mattered. So many of those close Collingwood wins were driven by Pendles and Sidebottom. That fateful minute against Carlton that lead to the Acres goal was a succession of poor/unnecessary decisions that cooler and smarter heads wouldn't have made.
  18. Perhaps relevant:
  19. Also smart, or smart enough - would much rather Oscar kicking out of the back line than Lever or Tomlinson.
  20. WC are not trading 1 for anything less than 2 single-figure picks, one of those higher than 6. And no matter what they're bundled with. Also, future picks aren't going to help, they need new talent ASAP. Not to mention they've already effectively rejected our 6+11+F1 offer.
  21. The only reason to consider this would be who might be available next year at pick one or two. If there's someone there that the club is really, really into then maybe they'd look at it.
  22. Worked really hard, made vfl team of the year at FB, earned another chance. Was already discussed mid season, with teams interested, so not a surprise. Good luck to him.
  23. They haven't said no, they just haven't accepted it for the moment. Equally, there's no rush. They can just sit on all this until draft night. Equally equally, they're not going to accept that in any case. It's pretty clear that they want 2 single-figure picks, as you would.
  24. Geelong are not doing that, even with a future sweetener. All this is going on because everyone's jostling to get into the top 10, the quality really drops off after that.
  25. Can't see Geelong or anyone inside the top 10 wanting to move lower. Agree re North, was just looking at what might get WC to move. But in reality, I don't see any of these scenarios playing out. No one is prepared to pay enough, even if they have the picks.
