  1. He could play CHB or CHF or the swing man role but we have Frawley, McDonald, Sellar, Dawes, Clarke, Hogan etc One player can't fix anything but particularly one key position player. So even if we could attract him I think it would be a waste of money. I'm not saying our key position stocks are full of stars but they are good enough to win games or at least not see us smashed by Gold Coast. Let's invest in youth also look for some hidden gem quality running players in the 22-25 year old range from inside or outside the AFL system like Terlich and Matt Jones. Thats our best chance of getting better quickly
  2. I was going to propose that but at the same time I think that coaching might almost be a third structure. Like admin, football department and then the hands on coaching. Most football clubs have the coach as the head of the department. I do agree with the gm of footy as head of the department idea. Lets the coach do his job and teach fundamentals.
  3. of course. But one of the first signs I didn't like about Neeld was him being so involved in recruiting. He should've just listed his priorities and left it to the experts. And I'm thinking where our list is at we really need a teaching and hands on 110% instructing coach. There isn't time or energy for someone to control the footy department and be the big boss.
  4. Loved hearing from Jackson. It was the highlight of the week. Everyone should listen to his interview on MMM where he outlays the problems and what he calls simply but not quick solutions. I've represented it in image form. The first image is the problem. The second is the solution. None of this will make us play better this week. That's up to the players. It won't even make us better this year, thats on the players and coaches, but if we have to solve our long term problems the first steps will be changing the flow of the footy department. The second step will be employing people who can fulfill the jobs.
  5. 1. More football experience on the board 2. A CEO with Jackson like experience if it can't be him 3. A footy operations manager who is experienced and head the department Then get the people mentioned above to all work together in constantly employing the right people at our club. That goes from everyone from the senior coach to the intern in the admin department.
  6. Ask yourself, if a defender isn't near the ball is that a bad thing? I'd rather Strauss get 10 disposals and use them effectively whilst his man gets 10 than Nicholson's 20 with 10 turnovers and his opponent get 20.
  7. We can't afford to sack him. We can't afford to not sack him. Melbourne!
  8. You know his history right? How's he been going this year? Last year his bad habits cost his getting picked in the main draft. Essendon bring him over with every intention to rookie him. Send him home the week before the rookie draft and he goes out until 4am on a bender. Essendon find out (it was hardly hidden) and say thanks but not thanks. We need talent for sure. But we can't afford that attitude. Our players already don't work hard enough. We need more self starters like Viney and Jones than idiots.
  9. 400 odd points down to 3 games if early plea. They could go the tribunal and argue that it wasn't high impact as Brennan showed signs of concussion but might not have actually been knocked out. You could try and win that one. Alternatively you could try and fight for negligant not reckless and say how Sylvia was trying to bump and Brennan slipped down, but to me it looks reckless.
  10. 1. No! Use the right option and back skill not corridor or wings 2. I swear the interchange bench impacts this. Players sneaky on or off 3. We do often, see point 2. 4. No!!! Back the jumper is a basic rule of football 5. Um yes that basic but you don't have time to set up triangles all over the field that's just about work rate and smarts and not getting sucked in to contests 6. We do practice a fair bit of goal kicking 7. I agree with this. The zone sucks 8.no!!! Of course hard and tough is important but until our recruiting becomes best available we won't get anywhere. It's about balance and patience with kids. Fix the guys drafted 08 to 2010 or 2011 first.
  11. Bail maybe. But you be nuts to get rid of Mckenzie who is one of only about 5 midfielders on our list to ever play a good game even if he is a midfielder
  12. i don't know about the 90's stuff but I agree with daniher. Travis Johnstone the perfect example amongst many. That said the list was way better then. What I'd give for young and talented Paul Johnson as a back up ruck when you see Spencer out there.
  13. Sometimes doing nothing is more efficient than the something Sylvia does. If Sylvia won the ball and ran like Matt Jones or Evans he'd be twice the player. In some ways he's trying. But he's still miles off his potential.
  14. This is bad news for our community development team, twitter team, matt burgon and staff, our casey manager, our whiteboard wednesday cleaner, our darwin ambassador and our craig's corner sound effect generator. The good news is that we should have a proper head of football (at the moment Mahoney is the paper pusher whilst Craig runs the drinks and Viney does something else etc), a proper list manager (Tim Harrington is shite) and some half decent coaches (be they senior or assistant).
  15. Would give my left nut for this bloke. Great recruiter, great straight up and down footy guy. The indigenous line was a mistake, but how it was handled by that clown Mifsdud was worse. Can't imagine Neville Jetta would be too upset if Rendall had an honest and frank chat to him. Davey will be gone. The problem is I still don't have a clue what on earth Viney and Craig do and if they have proper jobs. The main problem I have with our current department is that we have no obvious structure. Everything is a bit of this and a bit of that. Regardless of whether Neeld stays or goes the job descriptions and structure in the footy department need to be fixed and Rendall would be a great person to head that department.
  16. High impact? why cause Brennan is soft? He ended up on the bench and fine and I don't think he was really knocked out more just very sore Off the ball? No it was in play to stop the run. That's why he was using his arms as a blocking motion. Just didn't expect Brennan to try and duck under him. High contact, yes. Intentional? No. People don't hit people with strange two handed elbows to the side of the head. If he wanted to hit him he would've punched him. Reckless Dog act? Not really. When did this go so far from a mans game. Was it clean? No. Should be hung and quartered? No way! At the end of the day it was very silly. It reminds me a lot of the Kosi hit on Elliot. No way did Kosi mean to smash him. But everyone left right and centre was having a go at Kosi. 2-3 weeks is plenty. Think about Barry Hall getting 7 for punching a guy clean off the ball if you think this deserves 6. Also it certainly wasn't an action to line up and drill a guy to knock them out or attempt to break their necks.
  17. On Neeld I agree. Surely he has to realise staying aboard this ship is just screwing his future. Cut and deal now and his reputation might be good enough to get an assistant job pretty quickly. Blame the failure on the mess of the club. On McLardy, whilst I think he's been poor I will say he's a good person and volunteers his time to help the club. The line of candidate isn't that long. As president McLardy is the peoples representative. In some ways it's not about him negotiating his exit but every Melbourne supporter doing what they can to get the best possible board. Its oversimplifying but AFL club boards are no different to local footy boards in a lot of ways and supporters make the boards. I see the same thing with politics, the community at the moment are almost daring Gillard and Abbott in a race to the bottom. We can't afford that. We can't throw up an Abbott to fight against McLardy's Gillard. We all need to get involved and engaged in the process as members then we will continue to improve the board. Despite the on field mess our board (as a collective) can still take us forward. Based on recent history especially it could be worse!
  18. Yeah not exactly Neeld's fault but why play him if blind freddy can tell he'll never make it. Clisby looks a nice type for Casey could've got him on the main list maybe. But Jetta was available to play today and he does a lot of things Nicholson doesn't. Might not run as hard but that's about it.
  19. 1. Fumbles as always 2. Clear soft effort in the last quarter 3. Horrible disposal - Kent centred it to him nicely at one stage and he ran free through the middle of the ground and kicked it way past Howe 4. Can't defend to save himself. Despite all the speed in the world he gets turned around time and time again. No doubt he has fitness and speed to find the ball but if you can't defend or kick it's not worth it. Neeld realised this when he arrived at the club and trialled him forward. It's about time they go back to that plan because he couldn't be worse than Bail.
  20. Problem with that is you are effectively letting the other team have a loose man in the backline whilst we have Davey floating around and with Davey's lack of fitness he just won't hard enough to get enough ball to counter it. Especially against Richmond who are quick which takes away his weapon. I'd like to see him get more freedom to come up the ground but I think to be honest he's cooked as a player and we may as well continue with youth. Rotate Taggert, Toumpas and Kent all through the sub spot. All have skills and class just aren't physically ready for AFL. Now if he gets tagged the game becomes 17 on 17 which is why it kind of worked in 08/09 or whenever it was.
  21. why? He dropped one mark and had one goal kicked on him. Everything else including his disposal was fine. We need more players who get set a task and do it. Probably top 5 to 10 who played today and not at all the problem with this team.Same goes for Strauss. Maybe had a goal or two kicked on him but he got one back himself and won some contests down back. He also tried to run the ball. The run too far against him whilst close to 15 was a crazy decision in the scheme of the game
  22. Couldn't be worse than Neeld. Unfortunately the Collingwood off shoot coaches look like spuds compared to the Geelong ones. The guy I'd take from an inexperienced coach would be Sydney's (via stkilda and geelong Leigh Tudor). But mainly id go for an experienced coach.
  23. Colin Garland (the new vc) sums up this lot. Towelled by c brown early. No attack at all. Hospital handballs or receives stationary handballs. Surprisingly I wouldn't drop him because Nicholson must go and we need to keep players who can play but Garland stink up the first half every week before getting remotely interested in playing.
  24. Out: spencer (not worth developing), Nicholson (soft and unskilled), Bail (Vfl standard), Sylvia (susp), Davey, Kent (both not fit enough) In: Fitzy, Jetta, Blease, Magner, Toumpas, Taggert Fb: Garland Frawley Terlich Hb: Dunn Sellar Strauss C: Evans. Jones. Jones Hf: Howe. Dawes. Byrnes Ff: Blease. Fitzy. Tapscott Foll: Gawn. Mckenzie viney Int: jetta Magner Taggert S: Toumpas
