Probably not appropriate to opine about another poster’s parenting.

I know you get it. You’re just about the most measured poster here. We still have our fate in our own hands which is certainly good. We can’t be trusted though, which is bad and is what makes it so excruciating for supporters. That, and the fact that we have let slip several opportunities to be a contender, not just support cast. 2018 could have been our turn for a fairytale. Now we’re hoping to cling to a spot in the 8 at best (please don’t reference the dogs coming from 7th lol)

We have not won a crunch game against a good side since Port Adelaide in R18 last year which is a full season ago. Obviously we are in it mathematically and the team has ability, sure. But I’m yet to see evidence we mentally have the chops to win against any of the good sides. I think Adelaide will be very tough at home despite our earlier clash, WCE is near impossible, GWS are running into form and have the pace to expose us at the G and Sydney are exactly the type of mentally strong team we almost never beat. I applaud your glass half full and wish I had it in me to feel the same right now, but an extended body of evidence has me feeling pretty grim. #MFCSS

Mate, our season is on life support and being sixth is a mirage. At this stage will go into one game for the remainder of the season as favourites. That would leave us on eleven wins and missing finals. worse than that, if we’d just taken care of business tonight and against the saints, we’d be a lock.

I don’t think we need to bring in more pace for the sake of it. Last week’s team looked much more balanced. I’d make 2 changes: In: Vince, JKH Out: Smith, Spargo I think both the outs will be good players in time but JKH is in good VFL form and I think will give a little more than Spargo right now. Similarly, I’d trust Vince a little more than Smith at this stage. We look more stable (and quicker) with Frost back in defence than we did a month ago. ANB will be looking over his shoulder at VDB if he maintains some form at Casey.
-
I definitely agree with this. But there are a few in extended runs of very average form and at least two youngsters who look too raw right now. Even incremental upgrades can improve the dynamics of the team.
-
The balance was much better, but not all the cogs are contributing.
-
Bugg is a momentum killer. Wouldn’t trust he or ANB with a shot on goal if they were the last blokes on earth. Only player worse at that right now is big Maxy (but he more than makes up for it).
-
Would prefer to give JKH a run than Spargo or ANB at this stage. We don’t need Tyson in the guts right now and I hope never to see Bugg in a Demons jumper again.
-
I thought Smith, Spargo and ANB were our least effective tonight. Lewis also did some Smith played most of the game forward so not sure there is a role for him. Not sure there is anyone really demanding a promotion though.
-
I long for six weeks ago when it was hard to find a player to drop. Currently hard to make a case for half the team to be retained next week.
-
Still too many who don’t consistently make good decisions and use the footy well. ANB, Harmes, Tyson the usual culprits. Hibberd increasingly so and guys like Petty and J Smith who look out of their depth.
-
Ladder has bunched up significantly again the last two rounds. Can’t afford to drop a single game against a lower ranked team from here.
-
Um no. You said Tyson played his role but offered no description of what that role was and when asked, said merely the role he was set by Goodwin. This implies that either you know the role set by Goodwin, in which case please share so we can make an objective assessment, or (more likely) you have no idea what role Goodwin set and so have no basis for your original claim. FWIW I think that, in the context of what we lacked on the weekend in terms of skills and run, Tyson’s 16 possession game did not offer value. His possessions didn’t hurt the opposition and his defensive pressure was moderate.
-
Saty, you can’t make a definitive statement like “Tyson played his role” and then hide behind a cop out like the above. Either you know the role Tyson was given (which probably means you were in the coaches box) and can therefore offer a more objective judgement than most of us who thought Tyson was poor. Or you actually don’t have any basis to back up your original comment. I thought Tyson was below standard and we went in too heavy with inside mids. He’d be one of my first outs.
-
Actually no. Not ever again. He is the biggest momentum killer in our team. People are bemoaning ANB but Bugg is a similar player with even worse disposal.

We’re going to go on a tear again now. This is just like a couple of months ago. Shocking performance followed by an improved (but losing) effort. Hopefully we get it right for the aints next week and capitalise in the good draw we have over the next month. If we’re still in Top 4 contention in 3 weeks time, which we should be, i’d Back us to take a scalp or 2 in the latter part of the year and get a bit of momentum. We can’t, however, drop any of the winnable games coming up.

I think this week against the Saints is the wrong week to bring in a second tall defender unless we think Josh Bruce will play. OMac and J. Smith are the right size match-ups for McCartin and Mambrey, unless we want to release Smith into a more running role (probably instead of Vince) or if OMac is suspended. There will come a time to bring in another tall defender but we can cover this week. In terms of other spots, Tim Smith offers a bit as a tackler but doesn’t hit the scoreboard much and offers little in the ruck. Whilst it’s important to create forward pressure, our conversion against Port was awful. Weid gets less of the ball but is more likely to score when he does and is a better second ruck option. He is also the future, Bull is not. On the subject of scoring, we were crying out for someone to take a half chance in that last quarter against Port. Felt like a Garlett cameo moment. He doesn’t touch it much but generally takes his chances and lays 3 tackles a game. Tyson offered little on the weekend and Harmes butchered it. Petracca at least started on fire and his touches have more impact. So I’d be looking at: Ins: Weid, Garlett/Stretch (very good VFL form) Outs: T Smith and Tyson
-
Next week probably isn’t the week to bring in another tall back like Petty, there isn’t an obvious match-up requirement. But I’d like to see him sooner rather than later in a game with two big opposition forwards. I’d swap Tim Smith and Tyson for Weid and Garlett. Weid in because, while I like Smith’s endeavour, he just doesn’t impact the game and was smashed by Dixon and Westhoff in the relief ruck role tonight. Garlett in for Tyson as we are already balls deep in inside mids but someone who can add some spark would be welcome. We were crying out for an opportunistic goal almost all night and Jeffy seems to have that ability. ANB hangs on despite the awareness and skills of my 16 month old son because he adds a little bit of value with his F50 tackling.
-
He’s an honest trier but he’s a stop gap. We should play Weed for the rest of the year. We get as much out of him and he’s got a ton more upside
-
You’re brave worrying about top 4. Have to win 5 or our last 9 to guarantee top 8 with games against WCE, Syd, Geelong in our run home...
-
We also lost so much momentum when Max wasn’t in the middle. Tim Smith barely got a finger on it all night. He’s one of a number of fringers that don’t impact in big games.
-
We lack composure. We don’t make selections factoring in the opposition or the conditions. We don’t beat good teams.

Has Harmes hit a target by hand or foot in the last 5 mins?
