  1. " Only three things are certain in this life. Death, taxes and a post-loss whinge thread about the umpiring on Demonland. " On the contrary, I posted this after a quarter and a half. I had no idea of the result. But could only guess... " the Jpod free kick on the siren, was an absolute joke. Pretty sure he was the one with rivers in a head lock!!!!!! yet gets the free!!!!!!! [censored] [censored]!!! " Yep " Two points here first I agree with waynewussell you try your heart out to win the ball and when frees are paid to the other side you would expect when they happen the other way it would be paid this doesnt seem to be the case where melbourne is concerned second point is just sit back an have a look at the replays as i have done and you will see we do not get the frees that the other sides get period!!!!!!! " And this helps get to my point. I rely feel in the first half of the game the umpires tend to make a lot of mistakes which work against us, especially of our forward 50. The one in the first quarter comes to mind where a geelong player 30m out directly in front had a chance to get rid of it then had is arm pinned and dropped it. Classic mcgruber---I mean dropping the ball. Nup play on and Sylvia gets it and then thinks, hang on isn't that holding the ball but by the time be realised it's no he's caught with it and surprise surprise the umpy finally cis holding the ball. Anyway the point of my post is that I feel the MFC very much more often than not gets shafted by the umpires in the opening quarter or too and/or when the game is in the balance. Come the last quarter when the game was over such as today, the umpires seem to be much kinder and now somehow see all the frees they were missing earlier. Do I think there is a conspiracy. No. Do I think umpires are weak as pi$$ and when ever Melbourne doesn't have the bigger crowd the umpires favour the 'home' side and award them more frees. Absolutely. It's something the afl need to sort out. That is the point of my post. I understand there is getting in front more etc etc and the re are plenty of areas for the mcc to improve on and this did not cost us the game. But I do feel during many many games that at times when it's in the balance we get the raw deal just about always. And I am sick of it.
  2. Jusy watched the first quarter and a half on fox. I am absolutely disgusted by the standard of umpiring against Melbourne FC. It's something that really needs to be addresse as it append every game. In the first quarter twice Geelong players dropped (incorrectly disposed) of the ball in the Melbourne first half and I reckon at least one cost us a goal basic umpiring error. In the second quarter Hawkins was on the ground in the goal square and whilst being tackeled handed the ball to stokes I think it was. I am pretty sure this too is incorrect disposal. It is really sh!t. Again, it doesn't cost is the game but it must disheartening for the player to continuly lay good tackles and not be rewarded. Get your act into gear AFL. On a positive note. Mitch Clark is excellent but why is he roving the pack in out forward half? Well done but I mean where is the rest I em!
  3. Arrrghhhh, just watched that stupid Gieschen on whats your decision. CAN NOBODY SEE HOW EARLY THE DOGS PLAYER JUMPS??-the ball is nowhere to be seen. ARE THEY THAT STUPID???? Watching multiple replays confirmed what I initially thought. I have no problem that if the ball was in the area it was a block, however the ball was no where near and the dogs player made an unrealistic attempt and drew a free kick. GIESCHEN if you cannot see this - You are a FOOL. Time to GO. GET RID OF GIESCHEN - It will slowly start to improvement to the standard of umpiring. GET RID OF GIESCHEN - It will slowly start to improvement to the standard of umpiring. GET RID OF GIESCHEN - It will slowly start to improvement to the standard of umpiring. GET RID OF GIESCHEN - It will slowly start to improvement to the standard of umpiring. GET RID OF GIESCHEN - It will slowly start to improvement to the standard of umpiring. GET RID OF GIESCHEN - THE MAN IS A FOOL
  4. Hi again folks, Had to write the OP in a rush the other night, as I have some spare time now I thought I would explain what I meant. I felt the standard of the umpiring cost us a couple of early goals from incorrect and inconsistent free kicks. I don't mind so much if they decide to adjudicate a game in a certain way, but ffs be consistent. I felt in the opening half that the game was reasonably in the balance, however some howlers from the umps were really frustrating and made me think what is the point. Fortunately it appeared the team did not take my attitude and kept fighting it out, at that stage anyway. That is what I meant when I said they showed character fighting back. Unfortunately they ran out of that in the second half, especially near the end. But when the ridicules 50 was paid against Rivers, to be honest I don't blame them. The appalling standard of umpiring this season is honestly ruining the game, it is inconsistent and at times bewildering. Someone suggesting earlier that they are in fact guessing, well that is unacceptable. I don't know what the answer is to the umpiring fiasco but I think the first start would have to be to employ them full time, the AFL has so much money you would think they would invest some of it in making the actual game acceptable to watch. Secondly, their performance has been so dreadful throughout the year-if they were a team then the coach would be sacked-sorry Geish time to go. I am not suggesting that the umpires cost us the game on Friday, the unfortunatly for us the dogs actually decided to play their best game of the season against us, and with their bigger bodies out muscled us. What I will say is though that I think as a young team we run on confidence. Hitting the post so many times and having umpires gifting the other side goals definitely sapped that confidence and the result shows what happens when this occurs. Finally, can anyone explain to me why our game plan changed from chipping the ball around the forward flank (just outside 50) waiting for an option inside to open up to bombing the ball long into the forward line expecting Pettard and Jurrah to take at least 12 speckies and convert to win the game for us?! I read somewhere that we had lots of inside 50s that game, well if they are bombed in and the ball comes straight back out-I'd just as well rather not haves as many inside 50s and be much more efficient when we do go inside! ps On the Trengove shepherd, if that ball had been closer and the dog player had timed his run properly and Jack had tied to block him from going for the ball, then fine I have no problem with that. However in this case Jack looked to see where everyone else was. Got the mental picture. Turned around and set himself for the mark. As he was getting ready a dog ran straight into him and the umpire had blown the whistle before the ball had come into frame in the tv let alone to the marking contest! It was definitely an unrealistic attempt to mark which cost us dearly at that stage of the game. Watching it I thought, finally, a free to us-I was just glad I wasn't holding anything when the umpire put is hand up the other way as it would have gone though the TV. Even Bruce commented that the game is not heading in the right direction if that was a free. Anyway its good news I guess for all us amateurs, I know I could play AFL-its easy-just wait for someone to look at you and run staight into them, you'll get a free and kick an easy goal. Happy Days pps Sorry for using 'I' in the first word of 3 of the paragraphs
  5. Hi all, Earlier in the game when it was in the balance there were a couple of howling umpiring decisions that went against us and cost us goals, unfortunatly that trend continued into night. For heavens sake Trengove can stand his ground whilst someone jumps way too early over him? Apparently not. I don't know what can be done to fix the total lack of standard in umpires today. Anyone got any ideas? Well done to the young Melbourne team for fighting back even when they had the umpires against them. Showed character, unfortunatly the game was not with us tonight. As an aside, rather than start a new topic, what is with bombing the ball into our forward line all evening especially in the 2nd and 3rd quarters. I think when we have looked best we have held the ball up and waited for an option to open up rather than bombing it in. It reminded me of the bad old days where the plan was just bomb it in! Unfortunatly I don't think we will get 10-12 of Petterd's mark every game to make that strategy work! Dusty
  6. Big Max, like the hamburgers?! No not like the fuc#ing hamburgers. Well done so far Max, look forward to seeing you play in the future..
  7. Hi folks, Can anyone explain to me why the MRP didn't review the incident in the second half of the match where Jones went for the mark and once the ball was out of the vicinity the player behind came in and elbowed him in the back of the head? Not only did he not get a free kick but it was ugly from the Essendon player and I reckon deserved at least a week. It put Jones down for a little while and if he had not have been tougher might have caused more of a problem (concussion anyone?!). I am not at home so cannot you tube the incident to show you what I mean however I will try to later in the week. It just stinks that you can play the game fair like Trenners and get 3 weeks, but elbow a bloke well and truly late and thats a ok sick of it! ps well done on Fri Dees!

  9. http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/melbourne-plan-appeal-against-jack-trengove-ban/story-e6frf9jf-1226053760226 We are appealing it. Well done MFC that is excellent. Must and are appealing it if we are to be taken seriously, even if we lose, they will think twice before putting us and JT through such rubbish next time!

  11. I think this weekend against Norf the club should wear black arm bands for the death of common sense.
  12. Thanks for the reply folks, wish I hadn't bothered!! Night all!
  13. Why aren't we playing like we did last year when played on at just about all costs ala like against Sydney last year. At least that was a plan. Also, I know the umpires haven't cost us tonight because we have been so woeful, but they are a disgrace I hope the AFL spend 250 million of their 1.25 billion on employing some professional umpires who have some idea about what they are doing. Good night all..
  14. Thanks folks! Tried at the hotel, no main event Apparently it is on at the Pig and Whistle Riverside so going to give it a shot! Go Dees!
  15. Hi folks, Am in Brisbane at a hotel tonight and was amazed to see that the game will not be played on One HD instead some other rubbish is on there and then both Ten normal and One HD are replaying the game at 11pm. Unfortunately I have to work the next day so I was wondering if anyone knew if there is a pub in Brisbane which has Main Event which shows the game live? I know in Sydney everyone meets at the Alexandera Hotel (or something like that) I was wondering if a similar thing happens here in Brisbane. Many thanks. Nick
  16. Hi all, After last weeks fantastic win even Mike Sheahan is getting on the bandwagon which is great. However now that we have (hopefully) gotten over our terrible starts - although a sparrow doesn't make a summer - there is one more painfully obvious issue we need to address before we can be taken seriously for contenders in future Septembers: Our record away from the MCG. A little history. I remember a few years ago when we were playing better football than in more recent years (this year excluded). We were pretty much unbeatable at the MCG and we made the finals. Having a chat to Cameron Bruce he said that had we beaten Fremantle in Subiaco in the semi final, then who know what would have happened as our remaining games would have been at the MCG and having such a strong record there, anything would have been possible. But alas we did loose to Freo and this is the point of the post. There is no point been unbeatable only at the G. We need to drastically improve our away game record in order to finish in the top four in the coming years. If we remain the team that can't be beaten at the MCG than, whilst that will be great, we will inevitably play a final away from home as we need to win both home and away to finish in the top four. That is an unacceptable risk. Winning away in the coming years will enable us to finish high on the ladder which means our finals will all be played at the MCG giving us our greatest chance of securing our next flag. This ALL STARTS on SATURDAY NIGHT. This is a must win game for us, not so much for this season but in setting us up for coming seasons - all aways games are. There is no real excuse for losing either, we are in form, the Lions aren't. It IS as simple as that. Prediction: Melbourne by 24 points. BECAUSE WE MUST. Dusty Hill
  17. In a word FORWARDS. We have a pretty good backline, ok midfield, but no forwardline. They get it down there and there is no one there except Robbo who might kick a couple but no where near enough!
  18. WTF? There is no such rule as dropping the ball. If the ball is spilt in a tackle with no prior opportunity, its play on. If you did have prior opportunity, its holding the ball. Titan u beat me to it. Thanks
  19. Don't get me wrong, we were well beaten today and this wouldn't have made a difference, but it is still frustrating to watch. What really annoys me is inconsistancies in the umpiring. 1st quarter, Whelan tackeled, spun gets the handball away. Pinged for holding the ball, costs us a goal at a critical time in the match. Then later on 11 Minutes to go in the 4th, Franklin tackled, spun, gets the handball away. Nothing even though, to me anyway, they looked exactly the same, except the umpire isn't going to get a roar and it isn't going to effect the match. Also 5 minutes later, Bateman being tackled when Whelan is hit in the nose. Bateman drops the ball. When I used to play, if u were being tackled and dropped/spilt the ball it was dropping the ball, not to mention if someone breaks their nose (if in fact he has), i guess there may have been high contact? It just makes AFL hard to watch when the umpires can't get the simple decisions correct and they over umpire at the critical stages of the game when things are in the balance and it seems to put them out of balance (not necessarily today but it happens a lot. This making the game about themselves and not about the players ruins it. The free kick count should reflect which team is going harder at the ball, not all these stupid little technicalities which are ruining the game, I mean you see it all the time when the whistle goes and the players look around to see who and or what the free kick is for as they are unsure?! On a lighter note, well done to the boys for fighting back today, I think a win is not far away if the attitude continues well, hopefully we will embarrass Collingwood in a couple of weeks
