  1. We rate him at either end of the ground, so he fills holes for us, but by the second half of the season, it was pretty clear we wanted him to play as our key forward. That's no doubt what Goody has talked about. Now, providing we don't have a lot fo injuries at the defensive end next season, Petty will play forward all year. That seems obvious to me.
  2. Wouldn't we all rather Tom Morris?
  3. It's disappointing all this. Petty was to be our key pillar for the next ten years. He's won a flag with us, we drafted him in the second round and have developed him very well. I guess Adelaide could say a similar thing of Lever, but this is a problem for us list management nevertheless. I hope we can change his mind and get him a KPF partner for 2025.
  4. If we can't get Reid, I hope we get O'Sullivan and another.
  5. I think it'd be even better if they got nowhere near another one for 32 years. That'd be nice. They'd drop a few supporters along the way in that instance.
  6. They may well er on the side of more caution given who his family and father in law was.
  7. We can, and then guarantee long term planning with a long term commitment from Harry.
  8. Cultural point is a fair one, but disagree with the rest.
  9. Except we don't need to pay anymore for him now. He's already contracted for a further two years. The next contract will be the big one, Jonathan.
  10. Looking forward to Tom breaking the story about a specific instance of our poor culture.👌
  11. I wonder if we'd look at playing Haynes as the third tall. A very good interceptor in his day. Used to playing in a slingshot defensive system.
  12. Surely, there's a world where we've looked to clear cap space to increase our offer to Petty...
  13. Questioning Lamb's record based off three players brought in to fill back up needs. Yet, you conveniently leave out the Oliver's and Kozzy's that Lamb managed to land us with pick swaps. You can't seriously sit there mate and claim ignorance on that comment. It's a complete strawman.
  14. Wowee. Dazzle's gone off the deep end now.
  15. We want quality over quantity, mate. If it means only taking one player in the tip 29, then so. be it, if it's Reid.
  16. Only one poster has really put that forward. Old mate, Jimmy 'The Grass is always greener on the other side' The Man Jordan.
  17. We've been here before. Let's see what the result is.
  18. To me, it looks like we're going all out for pick 1, but maybe I'm reading into that too much?
  19. Well, then that doesn't work. I'd only trade Petty if he wants to go back (I know, I know) to SA.
  20. In theory, but how does that deal work? Petty goes to the Bulldogs or do Adelaide give picks to the Bulldogs?
  21. Here's the thing, Jimmy, and this'll be my last one on this, as we're going around in circles, some maybe of the view that many Melbourne players are great, but you're of the opposite view that all Melbourne players are ordinary or expendable. It's fine to be a contrarian and it's why some enjoy your posting, but you've gone off the deep end and this is a perfectly good example. Contrarian for contrarian sake. You don't trade out Petty when we've got no alternative and it's the one zone of the ground that we struggled for continuity and games all year. As many have now pointed out to you, if we were talking about Oliver or one of our mids, then you'd have a better case for improving a zone of our game by trading out and getting a player or two that would balance us up more. But your proposition of trading out Petty does not improve the forwardline. Just because Collingwood won a flag with Mihocek, does not mean that's the blueprint.
  22. I'm fine with moving up the order, son, but there's no guarantees that you can. See the Butters draft and last year with Humphries. So you'd have us trade out Petty in the hope we could move up the draft order, when there's a a reasonable chance we can't. So we've given up our best marking forward and have to hope pick 10 is a winner, but they won't be taking contested marks next year. Glad you're not in charge of recruiting or list management.
  23. I was fine with Watts and Frawley leaving. Less so on Hogan, but happy to get May in return. I like players that are B+-A like Petty, that can help us win a premiership next year versus a speculative pick 10 or pick 15 in a shallow draft. Now, I know you think it's a super draft, but we hear this every year and it's rarely true. And FWIW, I'm quite happy to trade players and I'm quite happy for us to be aggressive in trading as high as possible if we think someone like Reid is worth it, I'd even trade JVR for Reid (attention @Dwight Schrute), but Petty is a proven key back with a strong (seeming) ability to play a vital key forward role for us next year and into the future. You don't trade players like that. And whilst I was really impressed with JVRs season, Petty's marking ability from day dot makes him a far superior player to JVR IMO.
