Don't want to get shot down hence my reluctance to post earlier....

All I've been told is that Jesse has been given as much space as possible since end of season.  Club is not pushing Jesse hard however has given him time and space to think about his future and where that lies. The bloke I know does not have any idea if Jesse will decide to stay or go. He does not believe Jesse knows what he wants to do either at this point.  He has his opinion but it's just an opinion based on what he knows right now.

He's told me that Jesse will speak to relevant parties within the club shortly.

Also told me that the club was super confident Jesse was going to a agree to a new deal quite some time ago. Then a back flip. Club was quite taken a back at the time.  Also told me his decision will be 95% based on where he wants to live and that the CBA stuff that was reported was rubbish.  Told me Jessse loves his team mates and likes Melbourne and that he is torn as reported.

Club is holding out on other player contracts at the moment because of this situation.

I don't know Flamingdee but his info is parallel to mine.  My info is correct as it is first hand and direct.  There is no "hear say" in what I have written and thus I suspect Flamingdee is not far off the top of the tree.  Yet too many cowgirls on this site are prepared to smash and criticise the rare and only info that has some quality and truth.

One thinks its time many of you grew a life outside of demonland.  It is after-all the worlds smallest pond.

For those who want to know where Hogan is at, the above post is worth a read.

Granted, but the club also has a right to protect its investment/s and do what's within its own best interests: if Hogan wants to get to WC but can't this year, then he signs an extension otherwise he'll be wearing a Dockers guernsey in 2017. That is not unreasonable.

People keep repeating over and over that he's contracted for 2017, but all the fact does is highlight the severity if finalising his future.

Contract extensions are nothing new but with free agency these days they play an important part in list management.

What you will see now is teams trading contracted players with one year left to teams that will either do a sign-and-trade deal for the long term, or take on that salary for a year to fulfil their obligations and then free up space in a year with a strong free agency class. It's how it's done in the NBA and it's how it will be done here.

Anyone that wants the club to risk an unsure Hogan and keep him playing for Melbourne in 2017 without agreeing to an extension are shockingly misguided. In 2006 that might have been a reasonable train of thought, but it infuriates me when people say, 'HE'S CONTRACTED AND HE WILL PLAY IN 2017'. It's not that simple in 2016. We stand to lose so much if he leaves after 2017. It is completely unreasonable to argue that he is not "ready" to make a decision. I completely understand there are deeply personal issues here but I'm sorry, we all bang on about no player being bigger than the club and for us to just stop and be casual about it...we stand to lose a lot here.

He either signs an extension or the club trades him.

He either makes a decision or the club trades him.

I'm pretty confident this will be sorted by Christmas.

You make some good points, but considering what he is going through personally he should be given the time required to make the right decision for himself.

The club has taken a complete back step while his family troubles play out.  He is not going to make a decision by trade period. It is ridiculous and it would back fire if the club put pressure on him at this emotion time. Yes, he does have one more year left. He understands the pressure he and the club will be under while he is unsigned and thus will not let this play out.

I expect that he will re-sign in the new year once his current troubles have played out.  Unless he request a trade he will not be traded this trade period.  Hogan not requesting a trade would be a very strong indication that he intends to re-sign.

Goodwin was pretty confident on friday night on SEN that Jesse would stay.

Said he had spoken to him recently and had a good relationship with him and that Jesse loved the club and the players.

Said he would be pretty shocked and surprised if he wanted to leave.

While not a signature, that is a pretty positive outlook.

    Hope he is right.

We need to keep a big name player and show the other clubs that players want to play with us.

Goodwins comments here are exactly what I was told from another senior person at MFC.  This is all true.  All that is missing is the reason for Hogan's current stay in WA.  His critically ill father has the potential of stuffing this up for us, but the truth is that it is extremely unlikely Hogan will not re-sign with the Dees.

  4. Hogans old man is critically ill. Do you all not think this has something to do with his below average last month and at times poor body language????

Nothing is going to happen with his contract while Jesse is going through this terrible experience. He is contracted for another year, has told the club he will stay a Dee, but all negotiations have been put on hold while Jesse concentrates on his family and father.

If this experience makes him change his mind and brings the "go home" factor into play, at least we will be well compensated, most probably with Fyfe.  Fyfe is a free agent next year. Fyfe has indicated he will entertain offers. Freo is much better off getting Hogan for him this year who is worth two first round picks rather than one first round pick (compensation) next year.  There have been discussions between the clubs.

In saying that it is most likely that Hogan has not signed a new contract or asked to be traded by trade week.  If this is the case it does not mean he is leaving at the end of next season.  Simply he is concentrating on bigger issues at this time.

It is highly likely he will re-sign as a Dee.  All good management plans for the unexpected. The club has full expectation that he will stay.

  5. Update: Jesse Hogan's old man's health has deteriorated. Naturally this is a difficult time for Jesse Hogan and as such contract negotiations have taken a backseat during this difficult, emotional time.

However, Jesse has again confirmed to the club that he wishes to remain at Melbourne and sign a long term contract.

The club has been contacted by Freo both club expect Hogan to stay a Dee as this is what he has been saying. However, if he was to change his mind over the death of his father Fyfe would be the trade.

But let me say again, the club extremely confident (99%) he is staying.

Also the club believes no player in the top 25 will request a trade this year.

  6. Brisbane should get a couple of them.  They are doomed without a competitive list.

We should have got one after 2013 or 2014. We were not given a PP as we were being punished for being found "not guilty" of tanking....... we all know the "not guilty" is for AFL legal reason with bookies.

We all know we were as guilty as sin for tanking, we paid a terrible price for it. This should be a lesson for all.

DIdn't GNF "confirm" in his inimitable style that Trengove is for the chop and will become a stockbroker?

No he didn't. GNF said Trengrove was in trouble.

A decision has not been made yet.

He is doing work experience with a leading Melbourne stockbroker Baillieu Holst. It is Baillieu Holsts view that he is likely to be delisted and they are considering him for a permanent position next year.

  8. Trengrove is in trouble.  He has started "work experience" at top tier Melbourne Stockbroking firm BaillieuHolst.  The firm is expecting him to be de-listed and as such is considering him closely for a full time role in 2017. Trengrove will have the network they are looking for, but will have to demonstrate he can be trained. I have no inside word on what the club is intending to do (its unlikely they have yet made a final decision), but that they have aided him in finding "work experience" and that BaillieuHolst is seriously considering leads to the conclusion he will be likely let go.

  9. Seriously guys when has a player ever nominated a club and then failed to get to that club? Its almost unprecedented. If Dion nominated the Dees he will end up a Dee.  Our 2017 first round can be traded, we also have a plethora of small forwards to trade. Good small forwards are hard to find, we have them.

  10. Lets be clear.

If Dion chooses us as his preferred destination, he will end up a Dee.

You can never have too many A Graders.  Those who say we have too many players of his ilk are being naive.  How many midfield A Graders has Hawthorn had in the last 5 years? Many of them have had to play in alternative positions, but the key to their success is firstly recruiting them and secondly having them play their role which may only be periodically and briefly through the midfield.

I have no idea what we will have to give up for Dion, but once a player declares a destination, the destination club is in a position of power. The departing club has rarely received market value, particularly since free agency. The acquiring club has almost never failed to sign their man once preferred destination is declared.

My understanding is Dion will choose us. Hogan will re-sign along with McDonald.  We are unlikely to lose regular 22 by choice.

As I have previously said, I will retire GNF if I am wrong.  This is the firm belief of our club.

We have traded picks to trade for a player. We do not intend to take these picks to this years draft.

Pick 3, part of a larger complicated trade. Obviously not going back to GC.

Trades are suggested and many are actively worked on through trade week. 1 in 10 or so turn to reality.  That the trade was not completed does not mean that it was not on the table, and looked likely to be completed. Would you prefer I said nothing?

Currently running at 20/80. Can't afford to have these ones wrong GNF!

No disrespect Ethan, but please tell me what I have said that was wrong?

I gave you the scoop on:

    • Roos as coach (round 5, 2013) - completely dismissed by 100% of demonlanders
    • Mitch Clark - not really retiring, not prepared to play for Dees - completely dismissed by 90% of demonlanders
    • Dees in make play for Tyson (was smashed for this one)

    To name but a few.

I challenge you prove you 20/80 or shut up.

  13. The club is very confident that:

    • Hogan will re-sign to a long term contract this calendar year. Despite reports to the contrary discussions with his manager are on-going and positive.  We got close last summer.
    • Dion Prestia will request a transfer to the Dees at season end.  This means we will probably have to give up player and next years first round but in my mind this is utter gold. Dion is massively underrated on this site.  Do not judge Dion by last weeks performance...... he played injured.

  14. Way to early for the predictor. Its an even season, teams will come into form, other teams will get injuries and lose their self belief. This happens every season and this season will be no different.  I don't care what the predictor says, it means nothing....... if you win 12 games with good percentage you will make the finals.
