  1. It is clear TMac I’m injured. Toe, Foot, Groin not sure but he has no power, no speed and has lost his ability to kick through the ball.  It’s obvious for all to see.

As such TMac should be put to pasture for the remainder of the season. Get him right for 2020 and let’s get a good look at TSmith, JSmith (when he returns) and all other tall forwards.

    Just leaving this here...

I rarely troll posters, but seriously...

@rpfc  Great effort to try and discredit me, but what I wrote was true. The FD would have prefered JH stayed and JH was happy to play out his contract.  This is a fact.

We did as well as we could getting KK, May and a Pick 23 for JH and the FD shoudl be congratulated for this..................... but that does not mean they are happy losing the best young forward in the comp.

  3. So Peter Bell has flown in from Perth to get this deal done.  There is no doubt he is under serious pressure from his Board, Supporter Base and the other AFL clubs that are relying on the Hogan deal to get their trades done.

The MFC can’t blink. We must stare down at very least picks 5, 23 and 30.  In my view this is still cheap, but this does allow the MFC to complete its aims for the trading period.

    Nice story 'GNF'.

Up there with Little Red Riding Hood & a few other tall tales.

Make it plausible by using North, they're throwing cash around like confetti. Problem is their offers are for free agents and out of contract players. Oliver is neither.

Olivers vague connection to North is that they are an AFL team & he is an AFL player.

It didn't make the media because it didn't happen.

I have no doubt when Oliver's next contract is due he will get some very large to massive offers and we will need to take good care of him.

Rjay, this and everything else I have ever said on Demonland is info I have heard directly, usually it’s from the club sometimes it’s from friends in the player management game.  If you don’t want to believe what I write don’t, you have every right to believe what ever you want.

Player managers call each other everyday to test the market to see if a targeted player may be able to be seduced. NM did enquire about Oliver with a massive deal, the truth is they are probably not the only club to have made an enquire. It happens all the time. It means nothing. Only a small percentage of these make the media.  I don’t make this stuff up.

As for others on here that abuse me for saying what I hear. Get a life. Until this, I have never responded to your insults, I am entertained you waste so much of your time trying to discredit me.  The abuse I received for telling you after R5 2013 that Neeld was soon to be fired and Roos was locked in as our coach in 2014, or the abuse for letting you know Clark was coming out of retirement but would not play for MFC, we were “blindsided”, or that we were looking to trade out Pick 2 in 2013.  I could go on.  Each time I cop abuse.  Its extraordinary.

One last thing which continuously comes up. 4 years ago I never said we were getting Dangerfield, I only said Roos had made a play for him, which was true.

The club is actively trying to move on from a player and all the soothing from posters ‘in the know’ won’t change that.

If the MFC has its way, Hogan is in purple inside of three business days.

Mate, no disrespect but that is nothing more than your speculation.  It is simply not true.  Without wanting to sound like a [censored] that is the best assurance I can give.  But I promise you are wrong.

Do we know clearly what the Steven May situation is with Gold Coast if we don't sign him this year? Are the rumours true about him touring Bulldog facilities? Is staying for one year untenable for him personally, is he willing to wait a year to become a demon?

A Hogan committed for 5 years, and a Steven May committed from 2020-2024 is the best situation here, so maybe the club should just put that target in their sights and make it happen over the next 12 months.

The problem getting May without a Hogan trade is as much salary cap as it is what we can trade. JH is on $900k next season, on top of that we have a very young exciting list that we will need to manage carefully  to keep together in years to come.

Make no mistake teams are looking to raid our talent.  I am aware of a massive offer from NM to Oliver (who has some vague connection to them) that Oliver refused. This one never made the media.

These offers will only increase. Our stars are all young.

That is certainly reassuring. However, what causes confusion for some of us supporters is why Melbourne appear to have softened their negotiation stance from two high first round picks to a reported pick 5 and a second round in order to off load Jesse. Why be so “accomodating” if they think he may not want to go? Not doubting you or your sources. Just seems like so many mixed messages and it could be pretty destabilising (if not already) for the fans, Jesse and/or the club. How far is the club (morally) obligated to go to get a deal done? Fine line of course but seems Melbourne have been a very willing participant in terms of seeking to facilitate a trade by compromising on our demands.

I dont know the answer to this.  Maybe this is nothing more than media speculation. After all the club has never said anything except two early first round.  Maybe 5 and 23 with pick swaps was their absolute position. Think your probably jumping a shadows here. I don’t know and don’t think it means anything.

Some have posted that Jesse has been told he will play in defence next season?

    Any info on that?

I very much doubt this is the case. Pretty sure it’s BS.  Its just never been discussed with me. I am sure if this was the case it would have come up in my discussions.

  9. There is a miss conception by some on Demonland.  The preferred position by our FD is and has always been for JH to stay. Let me make this point with absolute and clear authority. I have been told directly.

The MFC is becoming a destination club. The FD is aware that doing the right thing by players...... even contracted stars to purse their own journey is required to becoming a destination club.

As I have said before, this situation only started because JH  in his end of season interview said he would not sign a contract extension over summer. He had yet to make a decision on whether he would move at the end of his contract.  The discussion went forward from this point. He has never requested a trade.

JH is happy to play for the Dees next season and is far from a certainty to ask to be traded next season. Talk that our FD preferred him to leave or thought we would have a more balanced team without him is utter and complete rubbish.

I cant say this strongly enough. It is a fact. Our FD is ecstatic that JH appears to be staying for 2019.  They are more than hopeful he will end up signing an extension. The FD are thinking this is his Dusty moment.

  10. Hogan staying is by far the best outcome for the Dees. Jesse is a gun, he is well on the way to being a generational forward. We were always going to be a weaker team next season if Hogan left even with May and another first rounder. Further the rule changes are to Hogan’s advantages.  Life just got a hell of a lot easier for the power forward.

With Weeds coming of age the Dees have the luxury of moving Tommy into the backline on the rare occasion we come up against 3 power forwards like WC. Alternatively we can play 3 power forwards or move JH into to midfield. However, most likely is the endless rotation of the forwards including Gawn like we saw last season. This confused the opposition and continuously allowed the Dees to find a mismatch in the forward 50.

The footy gods have smiled on us. The rule changes are a massive advantage to those who have dominant ruck, clearance and power forwards. They are a massive advantage to the teams that are already very offensive. With Jesse we can win the Premiership next year. In fact we should be favourites. Richmond’s poor clearance work will be a bigger disadvantage with the new rules.

  11. The trade offer from Freo does not match the size of the contract or JH age. Its a BS low ball offer straight out of Trumps “Art of the Deal”.  Its designed to try and force MFC into a mid position. Problem is that this tactic only works when you are in a position of power. In this instance Jesse has not requested a trade and is  contracted.

Bell needs to read up on negotiation tactics. This is amateur hour.

The only strategy left for MFC is to walk away and force JH to play out his contract.

  12. The best result would be to keep Hogan, trade next years first round plus player/late pick for May. This would leave us close to Premiership favourites.

May needs to request a trade to us.

At the end next season if Jesse leaves we have 2 first rounders to trade for Kelly or go to the draft.

Hogan will ONLY request a trade once a deal has been agreed between Melbourne and Fremantle. Which may or may not even happen.

Melbourne has told him (and Freo) we will be holding him to the final year of his CONTRACT if we are not suitably recompensed in trade.

Hogan will say nothing until this happens.

    100% spot on.

I have been told from within the club this is exactly the case. I can also add that Jesse remains open to completing his contract.

This all started because at his exit interview he said he would not be signing a contract extension over summer and was considering whether he would return home “at the end of his contract”.

That's probably the worst outcome unfortunately. That would take him into Free Agent status, we would get a singular draft pick if he was to leave at that stage. The best outcome now is a long term contract signed for 5 years or a trade.

JH does not become a RFA until the end of the 2020 season. We can still trade next year if he does not re-sign.

    What, no riddle?

All of the bolded parts are your opinion, of course. Not fact, a given or even the view of many here.

One of your points is plain wrong. Hogan can just leave at the end of next year. He can go into the draft, nominate his price and go elsewhere, particularly if Freo finish bottom or near bottom. And he's a RFA in 2020, not 2021.

He is a RFA at the end of 2020. This is a fact. He is not a RFA at the end of next season.

But we won't get 2 x top 10 picks next year for Hogan, that's the point and has been all along.

Of course we will. We could even do better if Hogan has a massive year and/or WC enter.  He may be out of contract in 2019 but he is not a RFA until 2021. There is little to no downside currency risk.

  17. The word I am getting is that Hogan is not looking for a trade this year, but would not say no if one comes up to Freo.  Hogan has indicated he wishes to play out his contract but is yet to decide whether he will sign a new contract with Melbourne or Freo.

He has not and is not expected to ask to be traded this year.

How I would play this is as follow:

Do not trade Hogan this year unless something massively stupid overs comes up.

    • With Hogan we are in the Premiership window next year.  Many Demonlanders badly underrate Hogan.
    • We may win a Premiership with him next year.  It is unlikely, certainly less likely without him.
    • Unless there is some sort of disaster Hogan will have the same currency next season as he does this season.  Possible more.
    • West Coast will likely join the bidding for 2020, delaying gives them 12 months to prepare, further increasing his value.
    • Hogan is not a RFA until 2021 so there is no fear of him just leaving.
    • Hogan may choose to stay at Dees over the coming 12 months.
    • Most importantly this will give the Dees 12 months to work on recruiting Kelly. It would give us the picks and the salary cap to secure Kelly. The two top 10 picks we receive for Hogan can be used to get Kelly.

So I say roll the dice. Dont trade him this season. More upside to wait.

  18. Denham is only giving credit to made up rumours of Hogans departure fanned by some talk back radio hosts desperate to talk about something and posters from Demonland.

Also Hogan is worth a top 10 pick and a later first round pick as a minimum. Young but established Key Forwards are almost impossible to trade for.

Hogan would have got cold waiting for the ball last week just like Weideman

Hogan can play up the ground.  That is half the point, the other half is the need for multi key forwards to win finals.  I know thr Tigers won a GF with just 1 Key Forward but look through all the Premiership teams and they mostly have 2 plus a floater.

  20. I have said it before and I will say it again.

    HOGAN IS NOT GOING ANYWHERE.

    Some facts:

    • The FD does not want to trade him even for overs
    • JH does not want to leave
    • JH is a required MFC player
    • JH is contracted

Every year we have this conversation, its getting boring.

If last weeks loss to the Eagles only taught us one thing, it was how much we need Hogan.
