  1. I agree it's getting ahead of ourselves and we really need to focus on simply winning, but it's a nice "what if" isn't it?
  2. Where did you find Gotch's review? I've been looking through the Scorpions website. Nothing there. Never Mind. Found it on the MelbourneFC site.
  3. I say Grimes, But I'd be thrilled if a couple of the other guys had better. :D
  4. You have to remember that Richmond probably regard us as one of the few beatable teams they will face. They are going to throw everything at us to get themselves up off the bottom of the ladder for a while. I expect them to hit us hard early on and put a lot of man-on-man pressure on the team. It will be very much like what we did to Collingwood.
  5. That would be a good thing if it was a home game. Sadly, it's Richmond's home game, so you may have problems getting in on a Melbourne Membership. You could try to convince the ticket sellers to give you a student discount which would put tickets at around $13.50. Not sure what sort of concession cards you will have. As for accommodation, try these sites for hostels. http://www.hostelworld.com/ http://www.yha.com.au/ http://www.hostels.com/ http://www.hostelaustralia.com/ Shouldn't be too hard to find something in your price range.
  6. Yeah, Given that we were against an interstate team and so relying pretty much entirely on our own supporters it was a very good effort. Especially for that time on a Sunday when so many parents and kids are doing their own sporting activities and can't make it to a game.
  7. Almost right. I would have said "Did Garland do anything?" He was rushed into the side early and I think it showed. He hasn't had time to find any real form or fitness yet. I have absolutely no doubt of his ability but right now he needs to play a few more games at Casey to get his game back together.
  8. Stef is the future, but I agree that he will be better served learning the game at Casey than being rushed into the senior side before he's ready and being thrashed. Let him get to the point where he can kick a bag of five or six and see what that sort of confidence does for his game in the seniors. As for Newton, he is beginning to look like a guy who is playing for his career, and that is a good thing. Keep him in for now and let him show us all how much he wants to be an AFL footballer. He clearly knows that he's on his last chance and there are a pack of promising young players coming up to put pressure on him. I've been impressed with his effort if not always his execution.
  9. I didn't actually notice that. I just assumed they were being talked to by some staff or some such. However, I stand by the rest of the comment, it would have been unbelievable for them walking the boundary alone with the fans cheering them on like that.
  10. How old are Pavlich and Sandilands? That's their window. When those two go it all falls apart.
  11. Having looked through the ladder and next weeks games, I see a quite reasonable possibility that we might find ourselves in the 8 next week. We sit in 11th at the moment on 1 win. There are 5 teams in the 8 on 2 wins apiece. Of those teams, Geelong and Port Adelaide are playing each other, so a guaranteed 2/2 from one of them. Collingwood have the Hawks, which could go either way quite easily. Bulldogs have the Lions, again a coin toss. Sydney have North Melbourne at Etihad. For us to make it into the 8 we need firstly to win against Richmond. Secondly, we need at least one loss from the teams on 2 wins. Thirdly, we need a big winning margin to get our % up around even. The one loss is a given since two of them are playing each other, so providing results in other games are going our way, all we really need is a crushing win over the Tigers to get us into the 8 for the first time in years.
  12. Is this the first person not to give Frawley a nod?
  13. There really wasn't an option of with or against the wind. It blew in all sorts of directions, and both side found it hard to kick straight at both ends. I think it would have had more to do with sunlight and/or kicking to the end where all the fans sat in the last quarter. Or possibly even just picking the end the coaches told him to. You never know.
  14. Sadly we're also 3rd worst at scoring.
  15. Garland isn't quite right yet. I'd be inclined to keep him at Casey next week and maybe the one after. Once he's fully match fit and has some touch back, then bring him back.
  16. I also loved the fact that Scully and Trengove were kept back while the others went to greet the crowd, then were sent over on their own. Perhaps not in keeping with the "we are a team" mentality, but it was pretty cool to see them doing the rounds on their own, and no doubt was pretty special for them to have the adoration of the fans all to themselves.
  17. How do you see the matchups for that one? Frawley to Brown and Warnock to Fev? Or will Garland be up and running by then and take on Fev? Perhaps Warnock is a better choice on Brown because he's got a bit more size and strength? This is going to be a really interesting game to see how Bailey coaches and the choices he makes.
  18. Love this one. There are plenty of people who don't like him because he's not as fast/skillful as Frawley and co, but he does a lot to allow them to run rampant all the same.
  19. Yeah yeah, go ahead and gloat.
  20. Also has a penetrating kick, as shown by that out on the full beside the behind post. Against the wind and about 55m. Did anyone see if Newton actually got a hand on it as he claimed?
  21. That would have been right around where I was sitting. I will add that the wind changed direction frequently, Often blowing across the goal (and went both ways at different times during the match). Oddly, two of Burton's goals were kicked in moments when the wind died entirely. You'd almost think he had a little extra help or something. And it was bloody freezing.
  22. He was awful, but I think you have to pay credit for that to Warnock. He played a superb negating game on the most dangerous forward on the ground. His best game this season (all three games of it).
  23. Same here. The only one I missed was the Bombers beating Carlton. I made that call based on the respective forward setups and sadly got shown up. Still, given the games today I think I've had a better week than the rest of the folks at work.
  24. I saw somewhere that Watts had multiple shots on goal and missed. Any truth to this? From the sound of it he was otherwise everything we could have hoped for, but I'd like to know what really went on with his goalkicking.
  25. I remind you all that we still have Martin coming along. He will be a great player for us in a few years. You just have to give him time. This is a guy who first played the game after he finished high school. He'll be better that O'Hailpin down at Carlton.
