  1. Game's over and Casey hold on to win against a determined opposition. The Scorpions won the game in the first quarter when they scored seven of their nine goals for the day. Both clubs fielded young teams with Casey playing quite a few first gamers but even with a smaller complement of MFC listed players (Maric was emergency at the MCG and Miller was out with a back injury) Casey should have done better and coach Brad Gotch would not have been pleased. Rohan Bail was excellent for the second week in a row and could be close to a recall for the Demons for next week's game against the Dockers at Subiaco. 8. James Wall kicks a goal and the lead goes to 41 points and that's it. A good comeback after the debacle at Williamstown. 9. Newton gets his second. Scorps comfortable even though they only have two on the bench. James Strauss (knee) and Austin Wonaeamirri not out there. Aussie's problem is a shoulder.
  10. MacReadie kicks a goal - Casey by 33 points halfway through the quarter.
  11. Colin Sylvia kicks his third goal to give Casey a 35 point lead.

  13. That was Danny Nicholls (#6) who kicked the goal. He's a strong player for the Scorpions (was on Collingwood's list a few years ago and played one game). Casey needed a steadier after Werribee kicked four in a row.

  16. Casey trail by 19 points at quarter time. Casey Scorpions 1.4.10 Werribee Tigers 4.5.29 Bail, the only goalkicker and that was late in the quarter.

  18. Thanks folks. You have no idea how hard it is to write up a game that was as lop sided as this game turned out. As far as Bell is concerned the thing was that he was given a task of curbing Willy's main man Brett Johnson and he did the job well. That's what Bell achieved in this game and no others in the team came near that.
  19. Thanks for the compliment Rhino. However, the best player list is not mine, rather it's the list issued by the Casey football department. My own opinion is that it's almost a waste of time issuing such a list when a team is comprehensively touched up the way the Scorpions were yesterday. I think we have to put the day down as a bit of an aberration. There were a few MFC listed players who still have a way to go to being fully fit to play at this level and there were a few very inexperienced VFL players out there too. Then there was the enormous home ground advantage Williamstown has at this ground. Once they got on top it was always going to be tough. FWIW my "best" players were about the same as the official list. Bell was one of the few who could hold their heads up reasonably high.
