  1. Half time Casey Scorpions 6.8.44 to Frankston 4.5.29 It's a very lacklustre game. Seen in the crowd, Todd Viney, former skipper and Demon great, now better known as the father of and a landlord to a few promising young Demons .
  2. Rain coming down now. Goals to Fitzpatrick and Gent were answered by one from Frankston. Scorps lead by 14 points.
  3. The Flash is too classy for this company. Scores his team's third goal just before quarter time. It's starting to drizzle a bit during the first break with the Casey Scorpions leading 3.4.22 to Frankston 2.2.14. The change in conditions is likely to have a bit of an impact on the game.
  4. A goal to Brayden Fowler gives the Scorps a 1 point lead - 2.2.14 to 2.1.13.
  5. No, definitely not him. It could be Clisby because I can't see anyone wearing # 70 and the player wearing # 76 and seems to fit the description I have of him i.e he's medium height and blond. Meanwhile, although Casey has been doing most of the attacking, the Dolphins are showing more purpose and have kicked the last two goals in quick time to lead by 5 points.
  6. Perfect conditions to start the game. No wind! Mark to big Jake and a goal from in close.
  7. The Casey Scorpions Team Sheet is up on the OP. I count a dozen Demons and there's one player out there who I can't recognise wearing 76.
  8. A bit of a bombshell for some - Aaron Davey playing for the Scorpions today. I can see Jake Spencer, Nev Jetta and Michael Evans out there too. Will get a team sheet shortly.
  9. Casey Scorpions reserves record a win 13.12.90 to 9.7.61. The Dolphins led at the half but the Scorps produced a barnstorming finish to run out easy winners.
  10. I'm working hard this morning to make up enough time to enable me to get out to Casey Fields for today's practice games. Details of the games are: Casey Scorpions vs Frankston at Casey Fields DL 11am VFL 2pm Edit: Casey Scorpions Team Sheet: 1. Kyle Matthews, 3.Luke Tynan, 5. Jordon Pollard, 8. Brayden Fowler, 10. 11. I made the point elsewhere that although the focus this week is on Southport where the Demons take on the Gold Coast Suns, if you've developed a fondness for Casey Fields after last Saturday's NAB Cup game against the Saints, why not come back again this week for the Scorpions' first practice match v Frankston? The neighbouring Dolphins have recruited well, it promises to be a big day at Cranbourne East and the parking won't be anywhere near as bad as last week. I can't promise which of the Demons will be on show this week as the MFC will probably take up a decent squad and rest a few as well. SATURDAY MARCH 16 Casey Scorpions vs Frankston at Casey Fields DL 11am VFL 2pm However, it looks likely that some big guns will be on hand at the same venue following week (March 23) when the Scorps take on VFL heavyweights Port Melbourne and they could have a couple of handy inclusions in Mitch Clark and Jack Trengove. Demons look to VFL. Casey will round off its practice match series at home against Box Hill Hawks on 30 March.

  13. Some local news on the Scorps: VFL: Multi-talented Eagles star snapped up by Scorpions
  14. Leaving aside Brendan Fevola a couple of years ago, Casey has done well in the past with "no name" recruits who make good in the VFL. Best comes from the Leongatha Parrots and is a 22 year old goalkicking half forward. It will be interesting to see if he takes up the offer to join the Scorps. Cranbourne ruckman/key defender Michael Boland has also signed.
  15. Every year the bookies underestimate Casey and this year's no exception. VFL flag odds - $3.30 Williamstown $4.00 Port Melbourne $5.50 Werribee $7.00 Geelong $11.00 Essendon $15.00 Box Hill $21.00 North Ballarat, Northern Blues $31.00 Sandringham $34.00 Casey Scorpions $41.00 Collingwood $51.00 Frankston $81.00 Coburg $101.00 Bendigo
  16. TAC Cup young guns sign The Casey Scorpions have announced the signing of five TAC Cup youngsters for the coming season:- Jarryd Drew, Tom Fusinato, Darcy Irwin and Daniel Jackson, from Gippsland Power and Jackson Anderson who played with the Eastern Ranges. Anderson's father is a former premiership player with the Scorpions in the days when they were located in Springvale.
  17. AFL Victoria VFL Academy The preliminary squad of 34 players for the 2013 AFL Victoria VFL Academy has been selected and three Casey Scorpions are in the squad: Brayden Fowler, Tim Smith and Luke Tynan. Well done lads.
  18. In addition to the Melbourne v St. Kilda NAB Cup match on March 9th, Casey Fields will host at least three Scorpions' practice matches during March:- March 16th v Frankston March 23rd v Port Melbourne March 30 v Box Hill
  19. I'm not privvy to any of the politics involved but I'm happy with the choice.
  20. There's an article in the local Casey newspaper on new Casey coach which should be of interest to Demon fans:- VFL: Clean slate for Scorpions' coach "This year, the former Frankston player will be in charge of guiding future Melbourne stars such as Jack Viney, Jimmy Toumpas and Jesse Hogan at the Demons' VFL affiliate." Here's some info on new recruit Ben Hughes who was on the North Melbourne rookie list a few years ago:- Born: August 30, 1988 Playing Height: 192cm Playing Weight: 93kg Position: Forward Drafted: Round 2, Pick #19 2006 Rookie Draft
  21. I believe that last year the VFL selected their televised games in four week blocks so I wouldn't be concerned about the situation with telecasts yet.

  23. Well, one player who Casey will miss in 2013 due to his purchase of a banned supplement trying to lose weight. I reckon he might have been unlucky because his motive wasn't sinister but it's probably a warning to professional athletes not to be so careless. Twitter: "Casey Scorpions Wade Lees has copped a 18 month ban from the ASADA over a fat burning product he never even received. Wade can not play until season 2014." Lees suffered a facial injury early in the season in the same game when Jack Viney and Jordan Gysberts had their jaws broken.
  24. You don't have to feel sorry for me Demonsterative. I'm excited about the future for the Casey Scorpions because of the excellent groundwork laid by Brett Lovett over the past twelve months after the departure of a number of "name" players at the end of 2011. Lovett gave many young local kids their chances at the club and they really kicked on during the season. I thought a few might even be lost to the rookie draft (e.g. Riseley, Smith, L. Tynan) but it looks like they'll be back next year along with a few other impressive youngsters who got their chances during the season. Having a coach with good development credentials is going to help these players as it would help those up and coming young Demons.
