  1. A three goal win to the accurate Scorpions secures their place in the top four. 2015 AFL Victoria Development League Casey Scorpions 3.0.18 5.1.31 8.2.50 13.5.83 Sandringham 1.3.9 4.6.30 7.7.49 9.11.65 Goals Casey Scorpions Lang 3 Fisscher Scott 2 Droessler Moncrieff O'Brien Paredes Stanlake Wyatt Sandringham McTaggart Uthayakumar 2 Cameron Daidone Harris Jones Williams Best Casey Scorpions Scott McDonald Johnson Thwaites Hillard O'Brien Sandringham Laumets Fisher Woodman Maitland Wallace Hooy
  2. Of the emergencies named for the Demons, I believe that the only one at the ground is Rohan Bail. James Harmes is being rested according to the club's website. Pig Dog's the man who therefore went to WA. Back at the TBBO Oval, it's gray and overcast and the wind's blowing up off the bay and there's still only a point in it at 3/4 time with Casey in front.
  3. Scorps up by a point at half time - 5.1.31 to 4.6.30. Sam Frost didn't make it onto the final team sheet.
  4. Quarter Time in the Development League game sees Casey leading 3.0.18 to 1.3.9. I haven't left to go to the game yet - score is relayed via a contact at the ground.
  5. These are the rules which were applicable in 2014 and I'm not aware of any changes:- 20. Participation in Finals 20.1 Players who have not played at least one (AFL or VFL) Senior or AFL Victoria Development Leaguematch in the relevant season shall be ineligible to play in the Senior Grade Finals. 20.2 Subject to Regulation 20.3 below, players who have played with the AFL Senior team of any AFL Club after the 1st day of July in the relevant season shall be ineligible to play in the VFL Senior or AFL Victoria Development League Finals unless they have played a total of at least six (6) Senior VFL or AFL Victoria Development League matches in the same season. 20.3 Players who have not played at least two (2) AFL Victoria Development League matches in the relevant season shall be ineligible to play in the AFL Victoria Development League Finals save where immediately prior to selection, an AFL or VFL listed player has missed through injury, at least ten (10) consecutive home & away matches of the VFL football season and his club remains active in the senior VFL Finals series. 20.4 Players who have played in more thaneight (8) Senior VFL Grade matches shall not be eligible to play in Final Series matches of the AFL Victoria Development League unless they have played in at least six (6) matches of the AFL Victoria Development League. 20.5 Notwithstanding the provisions of this Rule 20, except for Regulation 20.6 below, when a Club has both of its Senior Grade (AFL or VFL) teams engaged on the same weekend, the selection of players in the VFL Senior Grade team shall be unrestricted, provided a player has participated in at least one (AFL or VFL) Senior Grade or AFL Victoria Development League match in that relevant season. 20.6 When an AFL Club is eliminated from the AFL Final Series on the same weekend as the VFL Grand Final, unrestricted selections as per 20.5 for AFL listed players still apply. 20.7 Notwithstanding the provisions of Rule 20, for a VFL Club(s) who does not field a AFL Victoria Development League team in the competition, AFL listed players must qualify players under Regulation 20.2 and must have played not more than 12 AFL games to be eligible to play in VFL finals matches. 20.8 Notwithstanding any other provision of these Rules, the General Manager of AFL Victoria can deem any person eligible to play in any match. When I get home tonight if I have time, I'll check my records to see if I can identify which players are eligible. With the turnover of players due to injury, I suspect there might not be as many as we think.
  6. Highlights: For Demon fans who make their way out to TBBO, it will be like turning back the clock to the "good old days" when the MFC affiliate was one of the dominant forces in the VFL. A day of nostalgia but beware ... the place is not the same - for one thing, the old fence has gone. However, it's still as tough as ever to find a car park spot. The Casey Scorpions secured their place in the finals with a terrific final half fightback against the Coburg Lions last week. Now that the pressure's off and it's a virtual dead rubber for them, expect the Scorpions to put in a big one. It looks as if Jordie McKenzie is either being rested or the "mystery injury of the week". Jack Fitzpatrick and Dom Tyson missed out on both MFC and Casey but Jimmy Toumpas is back. Mitchell Cox (18, 180cm, 78kg) of the Dandenong Stingrays comes in as 23rd player. ... and check out the name of one of the players on the interchange bench for the development league team. 7. Siren and the Casey Scorpions have secured their place in the finals. Peter Jackson VFL Casey Scorpions 6.1.37 6.3.39 12.6.78 17.9.111 Coburg Lions 3.0.18 9.6.60 11.8.74 14.10.94 Goals Casey Scorpions Smith Spencer 4 Jamar 3 Jones McKenzie Papley Rennie Riley Terlich Coburg Lions Johns 3 Hill MacDonald Younan 2 Carnell Cauchi Clifton Thomas Venditti Best Casey Scorpions Smith McKenzie Spencer Riley Jones Jamar Coburg Lions Johns Thomas Clifton Carnell Venditti Christensen Disposals Jones 26, Terlich 26, Riley 22, Spencer 19
  8. Two minutes to go and Casey's lead is 23 points after a Coburg goal but it won't help now.
  9. The Russian atones for his earlier miss. Lead is 24 points at the 22 minute mark.
  10. Jake Spencer you beauty - another goal and the lead is back to 18 points again.
  11. Coburg goals and pegs the lead back to 12 points.
  12. Out to a 17 point lead with Jake Spencer's third for the half - he's playing a great game in the ruck and up forward.
  13. The Russian just missed an absolute sitter. Lead is 11 points
  14. No, nothing more than a light breeze out here. The final quarter has started and Gippsland Power youngster Tom Papley gets the vital first goal for the Scorps.
  15. A much better quarter from Casey with a goal on the siren by Matthew Rennie giving them the lead. Peter Jackson VFL Casey Scorpions 6.1.37 6.3.39 12.6.78 Coburg Lions 3.0.18 9.6.60 11.8.74 Goals Smith 4 Spencer 2 Jamar Jones McKenzie Rennie Riley Terlich
  16. Terlich goals from a free. Two points in it now.
  17. Spencer gets his second and its a 9 point game.
  18. Coburg respond - it's 9.5.59 to 11.7.73. The next ten minutes are crucial.
  19. Aidan Riley and Tim Smith (his fourth) goal in quick succession - margin 10 points.
  20. The Scorpions simply stopped running and all the momentum went Coburg's way. Early in the third quarter and Jake Spencer put an end to Coburg's run of goals but the Lions have just replied to go back to a 22 point lead. Casey needs to return fire or their season could be going down the drain.
  21. Half Time and not for the first time this year, the Scorpions have crumbled under pressure. Since Smith kicked their sixth and his third in the latter part of the first quarter, there's been a 46 point turnaround. Peter Jackson VFL Casey Scorpions 6.1.37 6.3.39 Coburg Lions 3.0.18 9.6.60 Goals Smith 3 Jamar Jones McKenzie Disposals Jones 15, Terlich 15, Riley 13, Spencer 10
  22. Yet another goal to Coburg and it looks like a few of the blokes out there playing in the Casey jumpers want to join their Demon counterparts in Bali.
  23. A fourth unanswered goal (and third for the quarter) to Coburg and they grab the lead. Make that another one - Scorps have stopped to a walk and trail by 7 points.
  24. Casey lead 6.2.38 to 5.2.32. Lead down to a goal and the Lions are coming.
