  1. Hi all, Enjoying a break before the start of the season but I thought you might be interested in this - Casey Scorpions 2016 season preview
  2. Some more junior talent has arrived at the Casey Scorpions from local TAC Cup clubs. They are Jake Di Pasquale and Cory Machava from the Dandenong Stingrays and Cory Stockdale from Gippsland Power. All three are smalls - under the 180cm mark.
  3. Melbourne might well have been denied access to a top up player after losing Jake Melksham for 2016 but it will get eight of them from the Casey Scorpions for Friday's practice match at Casey Fields. The top ups are Conner Ambler, Aaron Cottee, James Freeman, Jake Lovett, Jordan Moncrieff, James Munro, Angus Scott and Kody Wilson. The game starts at 9.45am.
  4. Close but no cigar. Aiden Riley won the B & F at Casey last year. Fitzy was runner up.
  5. Casey Scorpions Practice Match Series Saturday 12 March v Williamstown, Casey Fields @ 12.30pm (Development League 10.00am) Saturday 19 March v Port Melbourne, Casey Fields @ 12.30pm (Development League 10.00am) Saturday 26 March Melbourne/Casey Intra Club (time/venue tbc) Saturday 2 April v Box Hill Hawks, Casey Fields @ 1.00pm (Development League 10.00am) *Please note times subject to change pending weather conditions
  6. The Casey Scorpions have signed Beaconsfield twins Damien and Daniel Johnston who both played representative football with the SENFL this year.
  7. The problem with Casey in recent years has been the shortage of mature bodied players on its VFL list so that if injuries hit the Melbourne list and the Scorpions are asked to dig deep in their reserves, they are often found wanting, even against the stand alone VFL clubs who have more consistency in team selection from week to week. The answer obviously in the short term is going to be in maintaining a healthy list both at Melbourne and at Casey.
  8. You can relax now. Jake Lovett has penned a two year deal with the Casey Scorpions. He was the second son of a gun to sign with the club in recent days after Todd Vander Haar. And to top it all off, James Freeman, 189cm (son of former Saint Peter) has also joined the club from the Dandenong Stingrays. He kicked 33 goals in the TAC Cup this year.
  9. Article in local paper:- Former Essendon champ Paul Vander Haar's son joins Casey Casey’s recruits (in alphabetical order): Connor Ambler (Gippsland Power), Frank Anderson (Whitefriars), Lachie Batten (Dandenong Stingrays), Tom Baker (Rosebud), Liam Beacom (Upwey, promoted rookie), Aaron Cotte (Eastern Ranges), Mitch Cox (Dandenong Stingrays), Aloysio Ferreira (Gippsland Power), Dylan Gordon (Warburton), Yarran Jaffer-Williams (Wodonga Raiders), Oscar McInerney (Montrose), Todd Vander Haar (Old Xavierans). Retained players: Jackson Anderson (unsigned), Bayley Fritsch, Jake Gains, Luke Hannon, Brenton Hillard, Jack Hutchins, Chris Johnson, Declan Keilty, Keegan Mason, Jackson McDonald, Jordi Moncrieff, Ed Morris, James Munro, Paul Pattison, Bryce Rutherford, Angus Scott, Tim Smith, Daniel Welsh (unsigned), Tom Wilson, Kody Wilson (unsigned), Tom Wyatt.
  10. Like all VFL clubs, the Casey Scorpions are on a recruiting drive although obviously it will not be as intensive as some of the stand-alone clubs because the Scorps will benefit from the influx of the young talent drafted in by the Demons. The Scorpions have lost veteran skipper Evan Panozza (Southport), vice-captain Mitch Gent (Noble Park) and Nathan Page (Tooradin) but have re-signed Jack Hutchins and Tim Smith. The new signings to date have not been high profile but there are certainly some interesting names:- Yarran Jaffer-Williams from Wodonga Raiders is mentioned in this thread where new poster "outsider" has an excellent post about the 20 year old midfielder: "Yarran Jaffer-Williams is a young indigenous prospect looking to spark his AFL aspirations back to life. He was a member of the QBE Sydney Swans academy and also represented the NSW/ACT Rams state side. He played primarily for the Sydney Swans Reserves and Sydney University. Jaffer-Williams was a highly regarded Swans academy prospect under the tutelage of now Demons mentor Paul Roos ...” The club has signed two 18 year old Dandenong Stingrays TAC Cup graduates Mitchell Cox and small defender, Lachlan Batten - Batten shaken but not stirred. Another TAC Cup graduate to sign is 181cm Eastern Ranges midfielder Aaron Cotte who was among his side's best in the grand final loss to the Oakleigh Chargers. He was also runner-up in the team's 2014 Best & Fairest to Luke Hannon who is also at Casey in a team which included Christian Petracca and Sam Weideman. Midfielder Aloysio Ferreira from Gippsland Power has also signed with the club. Other signings include:- Frank Anderson (Whitefriars); Tom Baker (Rosebud) who booted 60 goals from 17 matches and featured in a flag this year; Liam Beacom (Upwey Tecoma and ex-Eastern Ranges); Dylan Gordon (Warburton-Millgrove), a key defender and Victorian U19 representative this year; Oscar McInerney (Montrose) 21, 203cm - a promising ruckman. Another interesting acquisition at the Casey Scorpions is Murray Bushrangers TAC Cup coach Darren Ogier who will be an assistant under Justin Plapp. Ogier spent six years at the Bushies and this year coached draftees Clayton Oliver and Mitch King, having previously also coached rookie Max King.
  11. Also slightly off topic but since one or two posters are familiar with footy in that part of the world, does anyone know anything about a young indigenous speedster Yarran Jaffer-Williams who also played with Wodonga Raiders this year who is said to be coming down to play for the Casey Scorpions. Don't know anything about him other than that he played alongside Aaron Davey who is playing for Doveton next year and might have recommended him to the Scorps.
  12. Two delisted Demons in Aidan Riley and Jack Fitzpatrick headed the field in the Gardner-Clark Medal for Casey Scorpions club best and fairest tonight. The votes went to:- 97 Aidan Riley 80 Jack Fitzpatrick 75 Mitch Gent 73 Jack Hutchins 72 Timothy Smith 70 Viv Michie 69 Mark Jamar 67 Rohan Bail 60 Jack Grimes 57 Jordie McKenzie Skipper Evan Panozza was awarded life membership for 10 years of service to the club. The Development League best and fairest winner was Jake Gains. Congratulations to all.
  13. Congratulations to the Casey Scorpions involved in the game starting with George Morgan who is coaching the Black Team. Casey players selected to play in the game are Luke Hannon, Declan Keilty, Jordan Moncrieff and Bryce Rutherford while Gippsland's exciting small forward Tom Papley represented the Scorpions on three occasions this year as 23rd player. Most of the Casey boys are coming through the ranks in the development programme which augurs well for the future - Squads finalised for AFL Victorias Young Guns match at North Port Oval on Sunday One player of interest from the Frankston area is tall key forward Guy Hendry. Also keep an eye out for Liam Hullet another tall.
  14. The winner of the JJ Liston Trophy announced last night was North Ballarat's small man Nick Rippon with only 15 votes. The top vote getter from Casey was Viv Michie with 10. Here is the list of vote getters:- 10. Viv Michie 6. Rohan Bail Max Gawn Mark Jamar 5. Jack Hutchins 4. Jack Grimes Jay Kennedy-Harris 3. Ed Morris Jake Spencer Dean Terlich 2. Mitch Gent Christian Salem 1. Jack Fitzpatrick Jordie McKenzie Tom Papley Jimmy Toumpas
  15. Thanks for all your wishes. Burgers running away with it so I'll grab a Burraburger and take leave of absence early, go home and watch the replay from the Dees' game. Cheers all
  16. A goal to Wyatt reduces the margin to 13 points but Coburg has the wind in the last.

  20. And Bombers ice the game with a goal.
  21. Twenty minutes ticks past and Casey have failed to goal for the quarter.
  22. Riley scores a point - Casey's first score for the quarter.
  23. First score of the quarter - a point to the Bombers.
  24. 10 minutes into the term and no score to either team.
