Is there a mid season draft happening for state league players? Maybe we could wait until then, to see if we actually need another back up ruck.

Just until mid March and only to replace an injured/retired player

Clubs will also be able to sign players via the rookie list between December 1 and March 15 to replace retired or seriously injured players.

AFL brings in mid-season rookie draft for 2019

    This name sounds interesting -

Bigoa Nyuon 18-May-01 195 84 Dandenong Stingrays Rowville Junior FC Rowville SC

The name sounds Sudanese and since he comes from the Dandenong Stingrays which is in the MFC Next Generation Academy zone, he could be in the same category as Toby Bedford is in this year.

One worth watching in the future.

Bad news, he's under the Saints program (not sure why though as he does play for Dandy which is in our zone)

Assuming this goes down and then we do the Hogan deal which pick are we using to get May?

    a) Freo's pick 5 or 6

    b) Freo's pick 10 or 11?

Obviously b is much better because then we can use pick 5/6 on a top draft pick

So can he be signed by any club as a Cat 2 rookie or must he go in the draft?

Cat 2 rookie (as long as he hasn't been playing afl for any junior clubs which he wouldn't have in Ireland)

I may be jumping the gun, but I'm guessing the likes of Johnstone and McKenna are playing for their AFL career? Even Pedo now that Weid appears to be adequate as a back up ruck.

Mckenna - yes, playing for his career

Pedo - will be his last year, thanks for the good times

Johnstone - should get another contract

... means we’re going to be in a percentage battle with Geelong, and I’m not particularly interested in missing the finals by 0.5% again

Geelong won't make up 13% and finish on the same points as us (because that means they'll drop a game or we win a game)

Correct. Two 8 goal quarters in that game. Q1 8.2 and Q3 8.4

    July 25, 2010

@MCG in front of a crowd of 29,374

    Melb 22.10.142

    Syd 10.9.69

B Green 5 goals, Sylvia BOG with 28 disposals.

    Followed it up with a draw in R1, 2011 then 6 straight losses by 101 points, 31, 31, 38, 55 and last year a 35 point loss.

    Is Sylvia available?

Personally I think we should shelve Viney for the rest of the year. Bringing him back early is just 2017 all over again

That's why our club doctors earn the big bucks. Pressure on them to make the right call either way.

How does that work?  Is it like the Swans academy picks where they spend points to move up in the draft if someone bids on their player?

Yep that's right. "Under the draft bidding system, all clubs have the right to bid for academy and father-son players in the draft but a club with priority over the player has the right to match the draft pick with their own draft pick or picks to achieve the points required to secure the player (all draft picks are given a points value)." https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/afl-draft-pool-drained-by-academies-20180502-p4zcxn.html

Here's an interesting map that shows which clubs have access to what across Australia. I'm sure there's going to be some unfair advantages. http://www.afl.com.au/news/game-development/nab-afl-rising-star-program/nga-clubacademies
