  1. It’s a shame that’s what 3 years or so on the list amounted to when he seemed to have potential early on. Perhaps he had already been told he wouldn’t be renewed and threw in the towel. That’s footy I guess.
  2. That’s the first time I’ve heard of an MFC listed player being dropped from the side when there’s no lower side for him to go to. Brutal.
  3. I thought you automatically qualified if you got to 100 games. In my mind it’s no coincidence that he will finish on exactly 100.
  4. Why barrack for Collingwood? Surely we’d fancy ourselves in a prelim against West Coast in Perth - we’ve already done the job once. To be honest though I’m actually beastly careless about any of the other results. They’re all tough opponents, so the relief and excitement over any win we get, or the disappointment of a loss, will pretty much swamp any other feelings or thoughts.
  5. That sent my hatred for them from simmering to snowballing.
  6. ā€œOne of your favouriteā€ - in the esteemed company of Heretier Lumumba, Chris Heffernan and Mitch Clark, right?
  7. Is he eligible to play? How does that work with finals?
  8. I wouldn’t say no if he wants to come - it’s looking very likely at this stage that we won’t have a ruck on the list other than Max and whatever kid we might draft. It’s just the question of why the f he would want to come that has me stumped.
  9. Why would he want to come and play second fiddle to the AA ruckman? You’d think we would be the last place a ruckman desperate to establish himself would choose.
  10. We are not going to make Hogan a defender to fit Weideman in the forward line. That’s honestly crazy talk. Versatile players usually end up that way because they’re forced to fill a hole, not because they’ve been squeezed out of their best role. We find a way to make three talls work. It’s the only way we don’t eventually lose one. Maybe we should rename this the Trade WEIDEMAN thread.
  11. Only one of 6 people in history to have won a B&F at two VFL/AFL clubs apparently, according to the article on MFC website.
  12. Wasn’t here at our lowest ebb and won’t be here when we peak, but was here to help us build the bridge in between, every step of the way. Roos goes out of his way to give credit to Vince for his role in turning the ship around. I’ve loved his time here, particularly his tough brand, long kicking and high standards. I’m sad he has to go without playing any finals for the MFC, but the time is clearly right. I’m thrilled he could limp over the 100 game mark - life membership is a fitting capstone to his time here. All the best Bernie.
  13. Especially if you’re the most junior, and coincidentally out of contract player and you’re well aware of your current place in the pecking order. I’ve seen both Weideman and Frost give interviews where they’ve said, to paraphrase, it’s a real shame x senior player went down, but thank f he did because otherwise I’d have to settle for a VFL flag tilt. I doubt either player would be that interested in the prospect of doing that next year when they’ve now demonstrated they can do it at the top.
  14. Threads get closed if they’re spurious, damaging or otherwise against the rules. There’s nothing against the code of conduct in this thread. People have the right to share their ideas, even if the rest of us think they are completely inane and illogical.
  15. Don’t remember too much about him as a player, but I know that as a coach, he is second to no man in the ā€œwhat a f’n stupid questionā€ staredown stakes in press conferences, especially when they’ve just lost. Cracks me up every time.
  16. Love me an underdog that comes good.

Who is putting them on a pedestal? Some players just have a talent for clean interviews. Weideman is obviously one - you only had to listen to his draft interview when Oliver was interviewed at the same time; the difference was stark. Tom McDonald is another I enjoy, as is Jordan Lewis. Funnily enough, these are the players that the club wheels out when the media monster needs to be fed. I find both our skippers to be boring and rambly to listen to, but that doesn’t in any way diminish my appreciation for them as players. It’s just a skill you need to have some of around the club, and it’s a nice discovery when a young player shows it. Nobody treats it like the most important aspect.
  18. I admire the tenacity of anyone who is still maintaining the rage over Toumpas. That era of lurching from one disaster to the next just feels like a dim memory that is on the brink of flaming out to me. As for Jimmy, I feel sad for him. He was a big hearted kid who had a passion for footy. After seeing Scully look like he’d been sentenced to the electric chair on draft night, Toumpas’ beaming grin was infectious. I hope life after footy is less confidence battering than his career was.
  19. Three fresh young faces ready to walk out with middle fingers in the air in 2-4 years time. Good luck with that, Crows.
  20. Q1: based on history of genuine AFL quality forwards involved in trades Q2: Bizarre question with no relevance to the conversation. I have already said, in every one of my posts, that I’m NOT talking about a walkout scenario or any other scenario where retaining him is not an option. Q3: Nope, human being. You? Q4: Strawman question, which doesn’t deserve an answer but I’ll give one anyway. Obviously I am not prescient to all future offers, but my imagination can’t stretch to one that I see as being both realistic and worth the trouble. Seeing as you still haven’t put one up when asked, I take that to mean you can’t either.
  21. What better outcome? My assertion is that there’s no sensible scenario where you would trade out Hogan other than a walkout (in which you have no choice). If you want to refute it, you have to put up something concrete.
  22. If you trade Hogan for another forward, all you have benefited is the incremental difference between Hogan and that forward. I’d be very surprised if there was a forward out there that made the team disruption and brand damage worthwhile. It’s not semantics, it’s part of establishing whether or not there is actually a sensible scenario in which you’d trade Hogan other than if he walked out. I’m arguing that there isn’t one.
  23. If a better one was available it would only be for the same reason Hogan would be available: because they’ve asked to leave. In that case if we had convinced this hypothetical elite forward to leave their existing club and come to us, we would have the higher negotiating position and could bring them here without losing Hogan. I note we did not lose any key position defenders in our acquisition of Jake Lever.
  24. Jones, Harmes, Gawn, Oliver, Oscar McDonald,, Neal-Bullen, Jetta. Was going to do a nice post about it with a bit of a summary of their season highlights after finals, but you’ve stolen my thunder now ?
  25. Unless Hogan asks to go, he won’t be traded. You can blow on about professional club and every player has a price and improve the list and blah blah blah, but at the end if the day, no club willingly parts with a player of his calibre.
