  1. By sweeping the fend arm to the side before it contacts you, it throws the balance off and you can tackle the body. With the arm out of play, locking in the arm holding the ball and smashing the [censored] into the turf is the next objective. you know he is going to fend, so practicing the counter should be part of the prep.
  2. Just saw that Johnnie Walker is now an official partner. After last Sunday, perfect timing....

Full forward, chopping out in ruck, swinging back only if needed.

Seems to be the problem most teams have. Considering he gets away with murder by the umpires, too. perhaps it will be a case of tagging in the midfield and team defence in the back half.
  5. I didn’t know he is potentially out with a hammy. For the Chinese burns he will need to be over his wrist injury...
  6. Chinese burns
  7. Ok, Balic for pressure, then?
  8. Add Lewis (inj) and that is 7 from the game on Sunday. (Includes emergencies) would suggest it won’t be this drastic, but could see Hunt, stretch and Balic coming in for speed, Probably need one more tall for balance. If they all go back, then that sends a huge message....

Drove past Goshes Paddock between appointments, and it looked like MFC were training (or about to train). Unfortunately, in the interests of staying employed, I couldn’t stop in. Anyone else attend, and can offer some insights? I wonder who looks like coming in?

Can we pop her on the rookie list? She is awesome, and would play with more heart than we saw on the weekend
  12. I saw this article. Shows we are a work in progress. The ability to them to jam us up and destroy our forward entry was evident on the weekend. The review would be interesting this week - it seems we have a lot of 'external review' of our gameplan, and if we fail to learn from it, we deserve what we get. We have to learn to respond, and to hold our own structures for our own benefit - not get sucked into their plans. Seems that this change, made after qtr time, made a significant impact.
  13. and 14 our of 26 games we saluted the judges. If we LOST 21 from 26, there would be some value in this stat. On the other hand, it speaks to the way we set up, and the way that Goody is looking to derive his wins. High press, contested ball wins, hard running both ways. He believes this style will win finals. Any system has its strengths and weaknesses. When we play the system correctly, it works. When we jog and are second to the contest, it doesn't work.

On reflection, I think this is actually about selecting for the next two games. Given the short timeframe between games, the way we select to give ourselves the best chance of winning both games, we will need to explore the depths of the roster. Selection has to be about what is going to serve us best across both games. We may need to look at resting certain players in the bombers game, particularly older hands that may not pull up as fast. I would expect a few changes for structure this week, and perhaps a significant number of changes for week 2. I could see guys like Bernie and maybe even Jones being spelled for one of the games. In terms of midfield, I could see us switching out 3 or 4 for rested types who played at Casey on the weeend, with an extra 3 or so days recovery. Maynard, Balic and the like will probably be subbed in. The bombers, who also have a short gap between games, will be in the same boat. It may be the fittest team/ one with the deepest roster wins. We may see a few debuts over the next two matches.
  15. i read that they won’t be dropping him. Too cool for rules?
  16. I still don’t get it. If he was injured, why wasn’t he benched, and a fit player used? I do not question his endeavour, or even his bravery. My issue is with the medical team and coaching staff having on the field if he was injured, or Lewis not letting on that he was injured. I thought Goodwin wanted ‘fit’ players. Could have shuffled the deck chairs, and maybe seen something different from what we saw.
  17. Given we had a full bench, if he was injured, he did us a disservice by 'bravely playing on'.
  18. Only damning in context: how many times have we had a run on of 4 or more goals? how many times have other teams suffered such a run on. how many games did we win or lose when it happened? it is a worthless piece of cheap journalism without context.
  19. Clickbait horseshizen. Freo would need 4 first round picks, maybe 5.
  20. It is only relevant if the person taking the mark is slowing things down. In a receive and go gameplan, it is superfluous. However the advantage is a few extra metres off the line might be gained. On the flip side, it takes a player out of the next contest, or what follows. if opposition teams are doing it, it means that we have slowed them down and are forcing them to kick to contests. The other option is to have the man running by to take the ball, get a few metres, and deliver at speed. This is just as effective, and doesn’t look petty to the viewer.
  21. When we halve the centre and hold the ball forward, it looks OK. When that failed on Sunday, the backline was exposed. I imagine any Defensive setup would have been horribly exposed in these circumstances. Biggest failure was tagging Mitchell with Nate. He was busy, they were all over Clarry, and we had no one to give us drive from the middle. Second biggest failure was continuing with the biggest failure after about 1/2 time... Anyway, onto topic: Oscar has been doing well in 1:1's and his field kicking is much improved. He is a lock at FB now. Jetta? gone missing. Very unusual, but he is along way from top form. He also seems SLOW. Lever - my god, did he stink up the place on Sunday. He has been poor, but he was an absolute liability on the weekend. Every kick pumped to the wing (straight to a hawks player), and terrible off the deck (cost us a goal directly by his fumbling). Needs to go back. Pig - has been good and OK, so gets some slack. Lewis - when we are winning, he will look good. Under pressure, he is a liability. SLOW. Old Grandpa needs to go sit on the Casey porch. Frost - needs to settle, petal. Needs some guidance on if he is a man on man defender or an attacking half back. Boy cant be both. So, the biggest issue with our game style is when it goes over the back. We have no speed to go back with fast leading forwards or wingers. This means any over-the back is a goal opportunity to the opposition. Our game has to be built on 2 way running. The high press is nice, provided we dont let them kick over it (Billy-Ray's torp to kneeboy). Also, the hawks had #31 stationed in the centre circle for large period to run like a madman forward if they broke out of our HB line. This and the Torp leave us vulnerable. My suggestion: Oscar at FB, taking their FF. Hunt and at least one other foot foot-speed (perhaps J Smith) to run both ways. Angus to be groomed to replace Lewis. Lever needs to go back to Casey to work out how he can play in the system, and not get games on his reputation. His role in such a high press needs to be reviewed/redesigned/refined. We could potentially try Bugg back to give Jetta a rest. (casey for form) Perhaps we could look at using the centre station idea to have a designated speedster to cover back and protect our ahrses if they get over the high press. If Goodie is serious, he will send a strong message at the selection table. If you play that Shyte, then you can do it at Casey.

At this early stage: outs: Lever, Frost, ANB, Lewis, Ins: Tyson, keilty to debut, Hunt, Weideman/stretch Brayshaw plays back, Keilty replaces Lever, Hunt replaces Frost, weideman to give us structure, and chop out for Max, or stretch for outside speed. lots of others on very thin ice. this weekend about 5 teams were smashed, hardly scoring. We are not alone in the problems we have. 3rd to 12th. If you don’t wanna play, then don’t. No passengers.
  23. Time is up . Patience has run out. Prove himself at Casey.
  24. That was truly awful. What can Goodie say in the presser? Lever was honestly putrid. Just Putrid. beaten all over, except for Max. Need changes in attitude, structure and application.

I am nervous about this one, but if we apply pressure to the ball carrier all day, we can win this. I remember we played them at the G in greasy conditions a couple of seasons ago, and all they did was kick it off the deck to move it forward all day - and they beat us. We need to be tough and smart, but can do this. They have no matchup for Hogan, and what is Frawley going to do?
