  1. Sorry, i have to stop here. This is where footy goes wrong. A reliance on stats.....for anything. The numbers that have true meaning. 5L 4W 11th Everything else is noise. The league leaders will have their own numbers/stats im sure but again the relevant info is 7W 2L 1st
  2. Proof surely there is a conspiracy of sorts. It was pointed out to me no mpre recent than this evening how unlikely it could be to get that many umps to toe the line and not say anything. I think it curious how often its the senior umpire, no matter how far away, over rules the closest ump. Something isn't right .
  3. Kent was once exciting and maverick He's now lackluster. Going backwards at an alarming rate. Trade
  4. I was considering any decent taller fwd for which we don't currently have a decent foil. Not all of a fwd line will be 2m, just not that many decent ones around but there are a handful of big fwds of various styles that we cant presently counter. Lever/May types would be a major improvement.
  5. Salem won't be going anywhere. Theres about half a dozen others who may or may not be at the MFC in 18. Christian will
  6. Eddie's not returning my calls..go figure
  7. Neither Frost nor Oscar are gorilla minding generals of the back. That the player we NEED , to stop us haemorrhaging goals down there. I'd be more than happy to have May/Lever ,tMac, Hibberd, Jetta, Frost, Hunt as a backline
  8. Dino Bernie was tasked with a role. He did this . In carrying out said role he got whacked. He was called from the field. He was distinctly ' inconvenienced' at the time. Spoke with the box. Went back out and continued his task. That is all. Are you suggesting he has a mental problem, or a penchant for the theatre ? Bernie was fine. Coach f'd up imho by assigning him the wrong player...should have been wearing that Cun....ton of a roo all day. Would have loved to see Bernie do a Dangerfield on him. But hey....that Vince...one soft mashmellow eh.
  9. Makes me sick to the stomach too (Getting whacked there) Harden up ? Suggest you ' brighten' up
  10. Draft picks intrigue me. For all the hullabaloo they often are far less valuable than given. Now that the fwd picks can be 'marketed' a new dimension is created but imho the underlying and only true value of any pick is what you as a club gain from it. The focus needs to be on the list, and the type of player, if none specificly ( player) in mind. What is your need ? A lot of discussion goes into this kid or that or the depth we need etc etc. The reality is neither of those qualities or metrics affect a game. What does are those ready ,capable and suitable on the day. So , if we have a need now, especially an urgent KPP type hole on the team sheet , youd be foolish not to spend the required and available currency ( picks) to get him. Bird in the hand stuff. There are many avenues to get players , either the project types or kinds naturally need longer development time but the ready to go gems need pouncing on. I would say historically the so called golden early picks often go bust ad much as they prove worthy. They are a risk (high) and are proof that all that glitters is not gold. Im all for spending picks on a known entity, esp when it fills a bloody big hole. One that causes us losses. A no brainer for me. Other players will come along , just like the next bus or train. MELBOURNE...get a bloody Full Back !!
  11. We're a soft target. In a way it's very much our own doing. I'm sick of it. It's all very well suggesting that there's a 'proper' way of dealing with it but that plainly naive. The World works by the movers and shakers. The meak dont get the world, they just get whatever no one actually wants...the dregs. Clever politicians don't often say much, bur they cut to the quick and leave nobody uncertain about what's meant. Our club has no Statesmen at the top. Might be cluey astute business folk but no sense of occasion nor stature. Often those that do nothing, get trodden on.
  12. Planning to start ..... Not " will sit down and..." But..... planning to start .. Sounds like me when talking with wife about landscaping the backyard.. Yes darling... I'm planning to start that..... Hmmm?
  13. Clarko is pretty well respected by his peers, by his club, his players and revered by the members 72, 552 of them ( currently ) He doesnt suffer fools ( nor do I ) and I seriously doubt he would give a stuff what they do or dont think about him. JB...your good self alludes to speaking via winning. 2008 2013 2014 2015 I hear ya loud and clear !!
  14. Without doubt the best way to earn respect is to win games. There's no question. When attempting this it is hoped to play under something vaguely approaching a level playing field. It was an uphill battle Sunday. Hard to play 21. That aside many of the most successful teams/club of the modern era are also the ones who are quick to back the coaches and players in other arenas before different umpires. Does that make them 'sore' winners ? I wouldnt think so . More it makes them complete and thorough in playing the game. It's not about being pucka, nor stiff upper lip/she'll be right etc It's about standing up for yourself on and off the field. Hawthorn for example I'm sure are incapable of taking a backward step. Come at them with silly fines and irregular penalties and they'll wig up and march you into the nearest court or tribunal;. Everyone at the club knows they are backed to the hilt. Melbourne: ( on the other hand ) Hawthorn are the most successful club of the modern era. God I wish we were more like them !
  15. Im reluctantly off the Kent bandwagon. Had hopes for him but seems ....well.....incapable or uninterested in playing to abilities/potential Keep this up and he'll be encouraged to look around for a future. The bright side Dean, you won't be alone
  16. Think unless he pulls a rabbit out of a hat and finds some serious form he'll be looking for a new home. If the case ,so be it.
