  1. Well done Freo, good changes. No surprise that all the new clubs have had to change their jumper designs after 10 years in the AFL. What looks snazzy now, won't necessarily look snazzy in 5 years time. ... now for their song.
  2. The Jim Stynes medal for the best international player of the season -but recognizing community service would probably be more appropriate.
  3. Disappointed for Greeny, but at least he's got his B&F to hang his hat on. Well done Frawley and Jamar!
  4. I'm in the Demonland 2 SC grand final against Unseenchampions. Enjoyed it this year, managed to hold on to a few trades which is a first for me. I wonder how it's going to be done next year with the bye.
  5. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NF-_HszEC9s Here's a slightly better version.
  6. To be honest, as I walked out of the MCG I was expecting a to see a 5-page thread on the umpires by the time I got home. It didn't cost us the game and no one here seems to be claiming it did, but there were still some infuriating decisions that left even Hawthorn supporters embaressed.
  7. Well he doesn't turn 25 until November, so he's got time on his side. He's always had the ability, but he was never able display that consistently until last year. Not only has he got his body right, but he's also got his attitude right and he should be commended for that. He'll be a very important player over the next 5 years.
  8. I think it will be used. Today I got another MFC/MCC flyer and it has a picture of the 2011 members scarf with the new logo pixelated once again.
  9. After watching the World Cup, I realize that every football code has its issues with umpiring. At least in the AFL, a player can't be sent off because of one man's interpretation. Having said that, the inconsistensies in AFL umpiring is what makes it so infuriating to follow. Going into each game, you really don't know what kind of umpring you're going to get: If they're going to be hot on hands in the back or holding the ball... or if they just decide to pick one out of ten. As the person with the most influence in that area, I can't understand why Jeff Geischen's position as director of umpiring is put under so little scrutity. Especially since he's held that position for so many years. I don't want to make a scapecoat out of the man, but I really can't recall the umpiring being of such a poor standard.
  10. Well there is a $50 Caltex petrol voucher on the table, but I get your point. I started having a bash with photoshop, but once I saw the work that Insomniac was turning out there didn't seem much point! Well done to all those who contributed, in other words... well done Insomniac and Deezman.
  11. Unfortunately 2000-2001 were the years I lost interest in football. After the end of the 1999 season, I couldn't believe it when someone told me that Melbourne had beaten Carlton in the Qualifying Final.
  12. I was just about to write the same thing. It was so good to see a game that was allowed to flow and not be held up by marginal free kicks. No one likes to see the umpires imposing themselves on the game.
  13. But if we DO win tomorrow we jump from 15 to 11. Massive game for us.
  14. I never know which areas are reserved and which aren't. I usually just sit wherever I can find a free seat. One of the most annoying things about the MCC is sitting in an unreserved seat and having someone turn up and ask you to leave because they were sitting there in the first quarter. I don't really know what the etiquette is there, but I think you should at least leave a scarf or something behind so people know you're coming back.
  15. DEES BOOT THE LAST 3! We're 33 points down...
  16. He's not talking about the retro demon shield, he's talking about the logo that was mentioned in the letter sent out to MCC/MFC members a few days ago. There's an image of a small, blurred shield. (See above)
  17. It's not much, but it gives you the general idea.
  18. So theoretically, a player could bomb it in from 90 metres out and if a player managed to volley it through for a goal or a point, that would be allowed? I know that's drawing a long bow, but the rule seems a bit messy to me. I think the quarter should be over as soon as the ball is touched or hits the ground, as with Rooke's goal in last year's grand final. It would be play on usually, so I don't know why they make an exception after the siren.
  19. Disappointed with the draw (I would have found myself $500 the richer if we had won...) Given the mauling we copped last year, I'm really pleased with our development. Our tenacity in the last quarter was exceptional - How good was Jones' smother to set up the Bate goal? It was also good to see a Collingwood supporter completely humiliated after making a few ill-considered snow jokes in a pack of Melbourne supporters!
  20. $15 combo bet - St. Kilda over Richmond, Melbourne over Carlton and Adelaide over Fremantle.
  21. Clubs are willing to spend 50k to take a gamble on a rookie from Ireland, but with salary caps as tight as they are, they're not going to spend crazy money on a gamble. Falau and Hunt's recruitment really hasn't been that kind of gamble. They're there to grab the headlines and that's exactly what they've done -any on-field success they have is a bonus. I really doubt we'll see anymore of this high profile code switching, unless these guys show some kind of unique ability absent in AFL players.
  22. In terms of the coat of arms suggestion, I'm wondering since we are such an old club, have we ever had a motto like St Kilda's 'Fortius Quo Fidelius'?
  23. The most annoying thing about the 2006 season is that we were twice beaten by Carlton, who only won 3 games for the whole year! If we didn't drop those games we would have finished a win clear in the top 4.
