  1. Regarding it being frowned upon. There has been a group of Richmond players including Grigg & Deledio playing organised competion 20/20 for Endeavour Hills, I believe this was authorized by Richmond. I'm sure there are other instances however I don't know why any club would allow it. Its a recipe for disaster really as Howe has found out.
  2. The root of the problem begins with running the organisation at the expense of ethics, morals & fairness. The AFL values profit above everything else. How can an organisation be run well into the future if this is the overall objective of its existence. It's only when ethical motives are taken into account & valued at least equally with making a profit that an organisation will be a valuable part of society into the future. In my opinion they will continue to sacrifice doing the right thing & put money, TV rights & "growing the game" above all other things. The following is an extract from a book that I am reading at the moment: The idea that business should advance the social good has been regaining its proper place in the last decade, helped along by the string of business scandals in recent years. As a case in point, in a 2009 speech James Murdoch, told the audience at the Edinburgh Television Festival that the "only reliable and perpetual guarantor of independence is profit". Yet in the wake of the phone hacking scandal at News Corp.'s UK newspaper unit, his sister Elisabeth Murdoch could say to the same audience three years later that her brother "left something out", declaring "profit without purpose is a recipe for disaster." She went on to say, "Personally, I believe one of the biggest lessons of the past year has been the need for any organisation to discuss, affirm & institutionalize a rigorous set of values based on explicit statement of purpose." Yet despite this growing consensus, it is probably fair to say that the implicit assumptions in the marketplace are that making money is the main thing in life, that business is fundamentally about accumulating and wielding power, and that maximising profit within legal limits is an end to itself.
  3. It looks like Brent Moloney is involved with day 8 training from the last picture on the official training pictures. Can anyone shed any light on whether it is him & whether was/is involved?
  4. I really don't understand this line of thinking. If a player does his knee on day one it's an accident that is unavoidable. MFC recruited Melksham knowing he could be rubbed out for 1 or 2 years & we still followed through & paid the asking price which Essendon demanded from us. Your point regarding it only being a year out of his career is an odd one also. A very good to exceptional AFL player will play 10-12 years of good footy. An average player might get around 4-6 good years in his career & most will probably on average play a lot less. Having one year taken out of his career & not being able to train with the club is a blow that we could have minimised at least. I don't see how the trade can be judged a good one at the moment or glossed over as not a big deal now that Melksham will be out for a year. All these points are without even considering whether he will be a good player for us or not if & when he does get on the field. He has been ordinary at Essendon for a couple of years & if you ask Essendon supporters they weren't fazed to lose him. When I add all these points up it doesn't look like an astute piece of trading, but like all trades we can only view it after the players career is over. I hope for the MFC's sake it does work out, but on the face of it, it is looking like a bad trade.
  5. The fact that he's on a limited program coming off an ACL is probably worse from my perspective. What if he ruptured his ACL again playing a backyard game of basketball? He probably shouldn't be doing it at this stage of his recovery. If I was on serious coin playing pro footy I would personally think twice about taking part in sport outside of club training & matchday.
  6. Both of them define the term list clogger. The list management in the past two years has been pretty good apart from these two getting a contract for next year.

    2015 AGM

Roughly a week before xmas also which makes it pretty tough to attend IMO.
  8. Both ankles I believe? I'm not sure exactly what was wrong with them.
  9. Sanderson commented that Weideman could be the steal of the draft. On talent alone he believes he could be a number one talent. If he was able to get some consistent footy together instead of being injured he believes that he could have been the number 1 draft pick. If we can get this kids body right then we may have our F50 sorted for the next 10 years.
  10. Summary of Goodwin's comments: -Will pick best available at 3 & 7. -There are 5-6 players at 3 they are interested in. -Won't reach for a tall player will pick best player at 7. Satisfied with current tall stocks due to drafting King, McDonald & Frost in recent years. -Have not put any strategy into what other teams will pick, they will pick best available at 3 & see who falls through to 7 -Had no player in mind when setting up picks 3 & 7 as they want to get as much top end draft talent while they can. -Reiterated that if a tall is available they won't reach for the tall player they will draft strictly best available talent.
  11. For anyone interested Simon Goodwin is going to be interviewed on the AFL's live draft show from the AFL website in a few minutes. http://www.afl.com.au/news/2015-11-24/the-draft-show-live
  12. It appears Oliver does his damage by winning his own ball & over powering his opponents. Oliver looks an inside beast, is he the next Mitch Robinson or Dangerfield? I can understand if the club choose Oliver why they would make that choice, but I'm not sure of his disposal & skills at the next level up. If the club thinks his disposal by foot is or can be elite you would take him. Parish seems to cut teams apart with good awareness & clever ball use. I wonder how high his ceiling will be as an AFL player. Is he already as good as he will be & would he be easily shut down at AFL level? When I think of the elite midfielders of the competition they all have a lot of power or strength over the ball. Kennedy, Dangerfield, Hodge, Fyfe, Hannebury, Mitchell, Mundy, Watson & Ablett seem to all be power or strength based mids who you can't really stop. I can't think of too many elite mids with the body shape of Parish, his height is ok but does he or will he have the build to stand up in the contest at AFL level? I'm leaning towards the opinion that Parish will most likely become a good player & we would get good service out of him but Oliver has potentially a higher ceiling to become the type of Midfielder in the class of Wines/Dangerfield & that would be more valuable than a good serviceable player that Parish appears to be. In the past there has been outside or skinny types taken high such as Toumpas, Whitfield, O'rourke, Morton etc. that haven't really developed. Where as the bigger bodies such as Wines, Stringer & Bontempelli have been the big wins out of recent previous drafts. So I can see why the argument for the big power based mid may prevail in this instance.
  13. Does anyone have info on who the Bombers were most keen on pre trade period?
  14. Exactly. I'm not an expert but from what I've read the only knock on Parish seems his size & tackle numbers. Everything else he apparently does well. He's averaging 129 SuperCoach points a game & 29 disposals albeit at a lower level than AFL, but he can only beat who he's up against. I'm pretty sure Brayshaw & Salem averaged less at that level. He's been an All Australian twice. Not sure how we can really go wrong drafting this kid & how anyone sees him falling out of the top 5 let alone top 10.
  15. For those of us who won't get to track into the city today, any chance Demonlanders could post some pics of the ads in the city?
  16. IMHO I find it hard to believe we would upgrade to pick 3 to grab Curnow instead of Parish. The rumours are that Essendon are pretty keen on Parish. They are desperate to rebuild their midfield so you would assume the reason we wanted to get 3 was to get ahead of them to take who they wanted. Essendon will most likely take at least one mid from their two picks. Gold Coast won't take who we want at 6 otherwise we wouldn't have done the deal with them. That then leaves us with Curnow, Weideman or one of the other fancied talls which addresses two of our most pressing needs of height & outside class in one trade period. I'm probably just repeating what others have said already, but that's my two cents worth. On Curnow I recall Terry Wallace talking him up during trade radio saying that he may be worth pick 3. I'm not sure if the hype is justified around him or not. I would like to think that at pick 3 the club would be selecting someone who is not as speculative a selection. From what I have read on DL his game seems to have a few holes in it & needs a bit of work. It will be interesting to see what the club has planned.
  17. Tom Scully was a Stingray, Petracca was from Eastern. Just saying.
  18. That's actually untrue. There are tests that can be done to ascertain the percentage of fast twitch & slow twitch muscle fibres on the body. The percentage of high twitch fibres will determine how much muscle mass an individual can build up, the percentage of slow twitch fibres in combination with lung capacity & the heart will usually determine how well the individual can perform aerobically.
  19. Yeh he could be, who knows. He certainly has a lot of attributes which we are lacking at the moment such as outside speed as well as goal kicking. I haven't followed him since he has been drafted so I'm not really qualified to make a judgement, but if you take a look at his highlights from the 2011 season alone you can see he has a lot of talent.
  20. That may be the case from memory he was dangerous around goal & fleet of foot but not known as a contested ball winner which may be a problem. He's still young though.
  21. Reading through the AFL list of delisted players I noticed Kieran Harper has been delisted at North as well as Daniel Gorringe at GCS. I haven't watched much of these guys since they were drafted, but they were decent prospects at that stage.
  22. Interesting that the Swans have uploaded it
  23. On SEN they are saying he was filmed allegedly snorting a line of white substance. Will be on Channel 9 after 7pm.
