OK no correct answers yet, but am impressed with a couple of options put forward...Remember these are only MFC icons...... So I'll give you a couple more to see if anyone can get the answers.... 1. “I would have 100 shots a week at training….” 2. “I train day on, day off. Day on. Day off….Todays’s day off” 3. “ If blokes got in my way, I knocked them over…and sometimes it was a little too high..” 4. "The old Melbourne’s gone….done and dusted. Finished….and that will never reappear again" 5. “Healy off, Ellingworth on….bloody weak as [censored]…” 6. “Any game against Collingwood, you had to get up…it’s a long week in football and every 2nd bastard you run into is a Collingwood supporter..”

Not much to talk about at the moment......so let's delve back into our recent and long past history and ask the question: WHO SAID THAT? As each one is correctly identified, another will be posted. Forward entry at Training
While it sounds simple in practice, defensive structures are now set up as a zone. One on one football is a rarity these days, especially in the defensive area. So a player with the ball cannot kick to space for a leading forward to run into. There should always be a defender within range, to turn it into a contest. The other problem with the Eagles games was that WCE had 3 tall defenders. We only had 2 tall forwards. As well most teams, like them, drop the extra man in defence. We did the same to them with Darling and Kennedy only getting a solitary goal between them.

Forward entry at Training
I don't know how they actually do this or even can practice it at training. So let's see if I can get this right... If we have T.Mac, Weid, Fritsch, Melksham, Kossie, and Bedford playing as forwards, then to get maximum match simulation we would place May, Lever, Hibberd, Jetta, Salem and Harmes on them. Trouble is that we are now playing "half-court" ...i.e. it is all at one end of the ground. And we know that the players don't stick in positions during the game. So to overcome this at training , the forwards and backs get distributed to various other positions around the ground, not where they would normally play. If we have essentially a full list training you can get 36 on the ground. ( last year this never happened) But they are playing and kicking to players that they wouldn't normally be playing with and kicking to. So I would imagine the only way that we can actually get as close to match simulation is by using various players at FF, CHF, FP etc and then rotating others into the same roles. It probably gets even harder, when you have new players come to the club e.g. Tomlinson and Langdon. They don't know instinctively where T.Mac or Weid or Fritsch will lead to . They can be told this at briefing, but until you actually do it multiple times in real-life, it won't click. I remember someone who had moved clubs, saying it took at least a year until they knew exactly what others would do and where they would go. It applies to the backs as well, and it is no surprise that the best functioning teams have played together as a team for a long time. Richmond have had virtually no injuries for the past 2 years and that shows in their team efforts. Very similar to the Hawthorn teams of the 80's and 90's. They just knew where to go and what would happen before it actually did. Back to the original question....I don't know the answer. I don't know how the coaches teach it, if they can, other than telling players to do it.

Can members expect to get a refund?
This was what is known as a "media beat-up". A Ch 9 employee baiting another Ch9 employee in a news segment to promote Footy Classified to be shown later on that night. Ed knew exactly what he was doing.

List squads down to 35 - who survives the chop?
Sorry, I meant 2019....but with a list of 45 we had 19 injuries. 35 - 19 = 16 players available. Or if we do it by percentages 45% of list missing. With 35 on the list we would have had 19-20 available.

List squads down to 35 - who survives the chop?
If the list were reduced to 35, we would not have been able to put 22 players on the park in 2018. And no ability to develop young players by keeping them at lower levels for a couple of years. Players on the list only account for about 20-25% of club costs. Just another "thought bubble" out of AFL headquarters....

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - HARLEY BENNELL
If the peak is in 2-3 months, then we will be in the same position in 4-6 months as we are today in terms of infections, and we aren't playing any sport now. There won't be any football this year.

Coronavirus: AFL & MFC
It is really pleasing to see that people are STILL buying memberships to support the club. Since last Saturday 317 people have effectively made a "donation" to the club, to keep it alive. Total as of today: 37,888

AFLW: SF vs GWS
Perkins virtually won the game for the Demons. When we were still 2 goals down, she was the one rucking and burrowing in and tackling to keep the ball in the forward line, while unfortunately, others stood around and watched. Birch was the saviour in the backline, and I really fear what a high scoring side like Freo will do to us, with McEvoy and Goldrick not around to help her out. There were a couple of GWS goals that simply would not have happened should Goldrick in particular have been playing.

NON MFC: Round 01
Dogs were just awful. Bontempelli completely taken out of the game by Adams. Johannisen unsighted all night. Macrea not much better. If Wood and Keath weren't there to hold the defense together, it would have been even worse as a result. Bruce is overweight, and why they recruited him with Naughton, Lloyd and Schache there already is hard to understand.

But it means the CLUB does not have to put its own operational ( week to week ) money into that project. It can retain that to keep the club running.

Winners & Losers of the 17 Round Draw
There is no-one better off using the H-S methodology. Would playing Brisbane last year be seen as easier, because they finished near the bottom the previous year? Tell that to the teams that lost to them. Same this year. In the Marsh series, GC, St.Kilda, Melbourne and Fremantle filled 4 of the top 5 positions. Yes I know it is only 3 games, but all of those teams are not going to be bunnies in 2020. The real analysis should be WHERE you play the other sides in the overall picture. You only play each other once. Would you prefer to play Port in Adelaide or the MCG? WCE in Perth or in Victoria? Geelong in sleepy hollow or the MCG?

COVID-19 MFC Crowdfunding
Far better..if people are so inclined....is to donate directly to the club through the Red & Blue Foundation: https://www.melbournefc.com.au/support-the-club no third party involved ...and it is tax deductible as well

AFLW: Rd 6 vs Carlton
O'Dea is probably playing injured, because we have no other players available, but you are right about the other 2. And these are 2 of our forwards...no surprise we can't kick goals. The loss of Goldrick was also critical as she repelled attack after attack on her own. Stinear finally moved Cunningham up the field in the final quarter, but she still barely got a touch. Perkins at least has a go when needed, but I suspect oppositions have worked out Cunningham in the same way they have worked out Harris ( Carlton). Deny the space or put on body pressure, and they are lost. I also can't see Stinear lasting if this continues. His game plan is based around possession, but with the lack of skill of a lot of players ( across all teams) it inevitably means a mistake will be made, which is where most of Carltons score came from. If you had a team composed solely of the likes of Paxman, Daisy, Zanker then you could utilise this plan, but it doesn't work with the current crop. Thank goodness for Paxman and Zanker, who are able to kick the ball long into the forward line. The ball is rarely marked and spills free. It creates our opportunities. We just don't have anyone that can capitalise.

Coronavirus & Other Sports
There is only one solution, and that was given by Sue above.... No spectators for the forseeable future. Players have as much chance of catching it down the street as from each other, so stopping games is completely pointless from a perspective of transmission. The other consideration is that the TV obligations have to be met......solution: play the games. ( It also keeps the fans happier) There is NO point delaying the season. This virus will get worse in Australia when winter comes, just like it has in the Northern Hemisphere. And as Sue has said, no-one knows how long it will go on for ( probably until sufficient immunity has built up in the community, just like every previous epidemic..)

What They're Saying at Waverley
The precipice stands right in front of the Hawks ATM. Burgoyne unsighted, McEvoy ( 1st game back from injury), no impact. Patten grossly unfit, was completely shot by quarter time. Scully run off his feet firstly by Langdon, then Tomlinson. Smith forced to play on Langdon and then did nothing during the game. Puopolo should be retired as he had as much impact as McEvoy. No forward line apart from Patten.......... Common factor....30ish years of age! Oh how wonderful this is.....Now for Geelong!
