You old timers could come into a racehorse with me. At least they win some of the time. I breed and race them. At the moment they are my only sporting enjoyment. I even have some Melbourne colored silks that I have never registered.

Looks like our Coach hunt is going to widen.

Just watched On the Couch and Footy Classified. Footy Classified and AFL 360 are my favourite shows. Loved the way both Garry and Thomas got stuck into Hutchy. Garry for Hutchy calling our Coach search "variable" when there was absolutely no basis for the statement and Thomas for Hutchy getting upset about his mate and drinking buddy being knocked by Thomas. It was great TV. From On the Couch I learnt that Roos really doesn't like the Dees. He knocks us at every chance and seems to have an agenda. Two things I will say about Garry, he is clearly a very relaxed TV performer and he seems as though he is very committed to getting the club in the right hands in his stint.

Its not as though I could say we are a great team and I love watching them play great football.

Couldn't agree more Old Dee. You just leave the ground with an empty feeling. I have a friend who is a Melbourne Heart Director and he has made me join as a member even though I don't like soccer. I went to a game last year and because I had no emotional attachment the 1 all draw ended up as a nice day out with a lovely lunch thrown in. Of course with the Dees it is completely different. I do see the future. I strongly believe in our list though not in every player on it and that what is missing is a hard edged, good coach, who is up with the modern game and is also innovative. We need more physical development in many players and obviously more game time as well. I will have to try and stay positive and hope that we appoint a good coach, sort out the admin problems whatever they are, hope for a result in trade week, start speculating on the draft again and then off to pre season training. Sounds good, but at the moment I fee like sh-t. Then again maybe that is the reult of the food I ate at a Lebanese restaurant that Whispering Jack dragged me to last night. We tried in vain to drown our sorrows while watching some amateur belly dancers perform. Perhaps I should have asked them if they play football.

Dinner tonight at Cosi in South Yarra. Had veal osso buco, it was shithouse and inedible. Expensive as well and bloody noisy. Should have stayed home and had a jaffle.

At the risk of being howled down, I started my 1000th diet today and had a protein drink for brekky. Guess what, it was banana flavour. Problem tonight, I am going out for dinner, might just order a banana split. Been a good weekend so far, Carlton down to 5th and losing the double chance and possibly off to West Coast for a final. Tomorrow the Dees to bounce back with a more defence oriented game and less turnovers.

I usually tape the footy show and watch the news segment and then delete the rest. Yesterday they spruiked Damien Barrett unbelievably and said that he would have tons of news. The guy said nothing. He threw in that GWS was after Goldstein and then Andrew Swallow said it won't happen. That was it. This segment is now absolutely as bad as the rest of the show. I have a new nickname for Barrett now " the Recycler" as that is all he does, recycle old news and gets most of it wrong anyway. Hopeless.

Just wondering about all the salivating over the possibility of getting Malthouse to coach us. I recall many years back when Ron Barassi returned and many thought we would get a premiership, it was an unmitigated disaster. I wonder if someone highly credentialled and liked and respected, like Mark Neeld, would be a better way to go.

Ah the solution. We play every game at night.

Do we kick well in the dark, because we certainly don't in daytime?

I really like Clint Bartram but unfortunately his disposal skills don't fit into a good AFL team.

That is why it is funny when we say we should trade one of our players who is not wanted and not getting a game and expect a great deal in return. Incidentally Cornes was still getting a game and is 6 years younger than Junior when we let him go. Lets not also forget Cornes is a premiership player and we don't have too many of them. PS. Cornes is also 4 years younger than Bruce and goes a lot harder than him as well. Not saying we should go after him but he would get in our side as the hard bodied run with tagger.

Interesting the bottom club in the league has apparently told Cornes he is not wanted.

We are an inclusive thread and welcome all, even the tempted. You will notice however that the creator of this thread has not yielded to temptation and nor will he. He may visit the evil thread from time to time but never will he contribute. Long live the Not a Scully Thread.

Gee the Eagles won the spoon last year and now they look good, all in one year. Can we do it next year and rise right up the ladder?

This is probably not the thing to say on this thread, given I started it by wanting to avoid another thread, but here goes. If we lose you know who to GWS and end up getting shafted in the compensation deal, I will seriously look at whether it is worth giving so much energy to this club. I have supported the MFC all my life and have staunchly defended it and followed it both emotionally and financially as well as being a Director, Team Manager and even recruiter, but a poor compensation result would nearly be enough to finally declare us incapable of ultimate success. If you know who leaves, he will be the only priority pick to desert his club and within 2 years of being drafted. I can live with that, despite the crap we endured to get him and the hope we pinned on him. However if the MFC as a result are incapable of ensuring proper compensation, then I will lose all confidence in them. This is not about you know who this is about us if we have to, getting proper compensation from a parent company that has cut its child off at the knees. We have all the tools necessary to persuade the AFL to do the right thing. We have recently suffered big losses. Membership, sponsorship, donations and attendances are all at risk. I would fight as hard as is necessary. If the AFL indicates poor compensation to us, I would start to threaten to expose some of the dirt in the AFL cupboard which we should know all about. If the AFL retaliated and got dirty threatening us with poor fixtures, I would counter with, "we will expose that threat to the media". Therefore you would be exposing Administrators who are corrupt. Their positions would then be untenable. I am sure the big clubs fight dirty, time we did. Many will say I am overreacting and maybe I am. But in the words of Peter Finch in his last film role in Network, " I am as mad as hell and I am not going to take it anymore".

I think I read somewhere he would like to be back in Victoria but you could only get him by doing a trade as he would be a priority for them to keep. You would have to give them someone good for them to even consider it. Maybe they would want a Jared Rivers who is an experienced defender and form Adelaide and even another lesser player like Bate, Maric, Warnock etc. It's worth asking the question though. Butcher, Watts and hopefully Cook, Fitzpatrick or McDonald could solve the key forward positions in the years to come.
