Saints have 7 new players and seem to be going ok tonight,
  2. Yes I said it badly. What I meant to say is that 1-2 changes doesn’t make us suddenly a good side, it is a club wide problem. Actually thought 2 of our best with the ball yesterday were 2 first gamers for the club, Bennell and Rivers.
  3. Agree. Oh and we are super fit too, 1 point to 3-5 in the last and they were a man down for 3/4. Sick of the excuses too.
  4. TBH OD, I don’t think there are too many happy Dees fans today, maybe relieved, but not happy. To be 45 points up early in a second quarter and then to score one goal two points for the rest of the game, on a dry ground, is an absolute disgrace. Making it worse, they were one man down during this period. Happy, no, relieved we are 1-1, maybe. The cattle are not the problem here, the mindset of players and the coaching is, coupled with a lack of disposal skill under pressure. Leaving your man to go 3 up in defence is just dumb. Kicking to outnumbered team mates is just dumb. Not adapting to a run on by the opposition is just dumb. After 60 years of fanatically supporting this club, it is bloody hard to keep going, when everyone but the people in charge apparently, can see what is wrong. Simple task this week, anyone who kicks to an outnumbered player against the Bombers, can run the tan as an extra bit of work and put their place in the team the next game at risk.
  5. Our biggest problem is turnovers and keeping possession and he is number 1 for turnovers. Look at Eagles game again.
  6. There is the usual get out of jail card. The real problems are still there as I have banged on about for years. We lack skill, brains and good coaching to adapt to run ons by the opposition. Carlton came back when they started winning clearances, we turned over the ball and then lost structures. Watch the game again people and you will see how many times we turnover the ball, when we have possession, by poor kicking and poor decisions, in kicking to 1 on 2 or 3 opponents. Why? Keep possession and we win easily. Also when Pittonet improved in the ruck, we did nothing different. Max should have belted the ball forward to change the dynamic and stop the clearances. Our lack of disposal skill has killed us for years and continues to do so. Lastly, the Coach seems to do nothing to change what is happening. Why? Fix these areas and we are a reasonable side.
  7. Newnes back on.

    He is out with Gastro.
  9. Self reported apparently. I am sure the Coach is in a good mood about it. Most players are not Einsteins, unfortunately they are not even Pavlovian Dogs.
  10. Visited a friend apparently.
  11. If true, hope Bedford comes in.

If the low scoring of last night becomes the norm, the game will be shooting itself in the foot. Last night was similar to a soccer match. However, it was the first game after a long break and it was slippery according to the players. On that basis we need to wait a few rounds to see if it was the new norm.

If Tigers win by under a goal the headline will be that video decision giving Higgins the shot.
  18. Don’t think his Dad is with Nine anymore. He married one of the richest women in Australia, Rhonda Wylie, a few years ago.
  19. Bloke with the biggest smile this weekend could be Jason Taylor.

While I don't want to be considered an apologist, some factors make the loss a bit easier to take. We know of the external factors that affected the game, like the competition being cancelled 30 minutes before we played, the hotel shift where the boys obviously had a disrupted sleep, the threat of being stuck in WA and playing at the Eagles dung heap. I can't wait for JnrMac to attack me over mentioning them. However, aside from a wasted first quarter we matched the Eagles for the rest of the day. We again were wasteful with our ball use and while we seemed to miss every opportunity that we had in the first quarter, the Eagles grabbed every one of their limited ones. I think from memory that once again we had more inside 50"s than the Eagles, but just wasted the chances. We missed set shots and snaps while they seemed to roll them in from everywhere. We also played a couple of debutants, who actually showed something and remember they are a very experienced and successful team playing at home. Our effort in my opinion was reasonable and nothing like the 2018 PF which was crap. We have a season to build on and IMO the loss was neither unexpected or terrible. We must fix up our forward 50 entries and ball use if we want to succeed long term. I wonder what the result would have been playing at the G with the same external circumstances affecting the Eagles.

If we blow the next 4 games it is probably curtains for 2020. Hopefully Weid finally makes it as a consistent key forward, or Jackson steps up to help, even though he is young and slight.
