  1. It sure looks like chaos.

Removing the idea of an overly complex "game plan" from the equation for a minute, I am bewildered as to why the really obvious things don't get adjusted during a game. (EG Man up, Tell Jamar to adjust his trajectory after the umteenth smashing etc etc).

Are the directives coming from the coaches? Is it a communication problem? Are the players rebelling? FFS WTF is going on?

  2. When Carlton lose to Geelong this week and then to West Coast at Subiaco the week after, will the Carlton board consider sacking him after 4 straight losses ?

    I don't think so !

So for all you doomsday keyboard critics, hold tight as nothing can be gained from sacking a coach after 2 games.

Malthouse was bought by Carlton to do a particular job, as was Neeld at Melbourne. So let's see what can be done by actually backing him in to do what he needs to do.

    - it's alway darkest just before the dawn !

Poor analogy - not nearly the same thing. I count more than 2 games for starters...

I don't blame Neeld for being in the position he is in but it is what it is.

  3. I drive the crowd I sit with mad each week with my ‘we should try Garland forward’ speech. Last night we finally got to see it. Fair to say a few had joined my campaign by the end of the night.

I am close to someone who has been championing this for a long time also.

Kudos to those that called it, and Neeld for having the initiative to try it.

From Emma Quale's article in the age:

Neeld moved Garland forward after reviewing the players' draft reports this week and noticing that he had been recruited from Tasmania as a forward.

I'm actually surprised it fell into place that way, and would have expected it to have been dismissed earlier through the "too valuable down back" argument.

  4. Maybe this will help you get why i posted the stats to mull over....was never in support of any argument ....but even then you two (RR & Tricky dicky) probably still wont get it....HELLO....KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK....wakey wakey....anyone home???

Calm down Rusty.......we get it, you just posted the stats - no need for knickers & knots.

I stand by my comment regarding the stats, however that doesn't make you responsible for the original # of games comparison - happy with that clarification?

I'm sure those who were paying attention didn't think any less of you :)

  5. I am not sure why you placed all the stats down Rusty as they dont dress the key points. The gulf between the Cats and MFC maybe not so much in the stats but in the clear quality of the playing list particularly the experienced players.

Geelong are still in the glow of one of the best senior lists in the AFL. They are still a team to be feared while they have Johnson, Scarlett and Co running around. The test for them will be in 2 to 4 years as they transition away from these great players. While the worth of the youth is still to be determined they have a wonderful development opportunity and culture.

MFC senior players, regardless of the games played, are woeful. Its left our U23 talent completely exposed without leadership, good example or protection. We are waiting for our talented youth to come through but hell MFC make it so difficult for that to happen.

And with a new coach and gameplan, its going to take at least 12 months to get this right. New gameplans are not learnt and perfected over a pre season.

    Well said.

Comparing number of games is a frivolous exercise - it's the quality of the experienced players that counts.

This season is proving to be a genuine reality check for the MFC.

  6. pettard is trade bait

Petterd may well be too - we have sure seen some potential.

Best advice I can give Ricky is to sit and watch tapes of Jeremy Howe, and understand that if you want to play as a HFF in the AFL at the moment, you need to add so much to your game.

I'm of the view that RP and JH are fighting for the one position, and at the moment, JH has it well and truly covered.

I was hoping this would be a "break out season" for RP but I think you make a good point re: JH. I'm happy the bar has been raised.

  7. I hate reading into things too much but.............

does anyone else wonder whether MFC are drawing out Jurrah's return so he can deal with his impending court case before his first game?

He was originally flagged for a return this weekend at Casey, now it's probably next week. Assuming 1 week in the 2s then he's due to play on the 11th against Hawthorn? 6 days before his case?

With an interrupted pre-season, you would assume 2 weeks at Casey might be more fitting. Then with his court visit on May 17th............

    I don't think it's relevant.

According to Neeld's presser today Jurrah didn't feel fit enough (Edit: this week) - was buggered after each of his 2 "light" sessions.

Neeld wanted him to play Casey but LJ didn't feel up to it.

As others have said, the up coming court date is simply where he pleads "not guilty" (presumably he's sticking with that) - so things are then deferred.

I can't wait to see him fit and back in the side.

  8. What Jones lacks in natural ability, he makes up for with courage, work ethic and leadership.

Of all the things we need from the group right now I would choose those particular traits - so identifying Jones as a problem of any significance currently is way off the mark.
