  1. Last week, during the first half I was throwing objects during some decisions. This week I felt as though we copped the good & the bad, I still threw something at one point!!! I cant blame the umps for this loss and normally I'm the first to do so! Fair dinkum, count how many mistake our own players made and then count how many decisions went against us.

  2. Great effort today but i question the hardness of some of our players. you all know who.

    thoughts?

Hate to sound like YM, but Bruce was soft today, but Newton was softer!!!!!!

  3. Here's what I noticed about Bruce today. He earns his spot, but only just. He does do some things well, but only when the heat is off. If Cam approaches a situation where there is going to be a hard physical contest and he can see a 1st or 2nd year player ahead of him in the same position, he will give it off to them.

As a senior player, he needs to take that situation on himself rather than place the burden onto a junior player with far less years of experience. He shoudl be put on notice that we excpect him not just to supply great clearing kicks, but he also needs to provide a good physical presence on the game. We have no room on our team for senior players who are soft.

  4. Picture this...

At the footy with my 6 year old daughter. All summer she has been keen to go to the footy, really picked up a passion for it (no idea from where, it's not from me.) She buys a flag at the ground so she can wave it around as she has seen other supporters do when a goal has been kicked. She has no idea about the game, just already loves the Dees and laughs at her friends for barracking for other teams!

Claps them out onto the ground, cheers for them as they run out etc etc. Cut to 50 minutes later, we haven't kicked a goal, she hasn't been able to wave the flag. She is now sitting in her chair, hardly watching, looking like she is about to cry, I ask her what is wrong and she says "why don't the demons score? why are they so bad?" 50 minutes into the season and they have already wrecked her!

Three years now she has been going to the games, on and off, hasn't seen a victory yet. You can't explain to her that the team is young, they are rebuilding and all that other rubbish. She just wants to see one win, but after seeing what we dished out on saturday, I can't see that happening this year!

I have the same problems with my 6 year old son! Although he is so indoctrinated now that he tells everyone that asks why he would bother to barrack for Melbourne to give them a chance, they're just kids, they're just learning. I have started recording every Melbourne game on my Austar and when we win a game, I'll just replay that for him so he thinks we are winning more often!

Mind you, if it keeps going like this, I might be the one who starts asking why they don't score and why they're so bad!

  5. All I know is the insipid team of basketballers I saw on Saturday made my blood boil. I hope during the week they pull in the 'bigger' boys of the team and remind them that now the entire competition and even some of thier own fan base think they are physically and mentally weak! See how that sits with them!

Then get Grinter, Strawbs, Stynes & Neitz in the rooms before the game to show them all what tough looks like!

Then, I want to see them running out on Saturday with steam coming out of thier ears! Like true Demons! I want to see them run hard at the man and even harder at the ball. I want them to show the entire competition what a physical 'contest' against a Melbourne player is going to be from here on in! It's going to hurt and WE WILL NOT BACK DOWN! It fact we will charge into it with fire in our eyes!

Put thoughts of suspension out of your mind, just go hard! No regrets, no remorse! I don't even care if we come off second best, getting in a fight and losing is better than running away from one all together. I don't even care if we lose on the scoreboard, as long as the opposition walks off the ground and wakes up the next morning with aches and groans in his body, knowing that Melbourne inflicted that pain and that one day soon, he'll have to face that again!

If I saw even that, I'd relight my fire and refuel my passion straight away! (Not a reference to my membership status - I am paid up and proud.)

  7. Great morning at Casey Fields! My son loved the jumping castle & the Go-Karts the club put on. Go-Karts distracted him for the last half and left me to enjoy the footy for the last half! I have never seen so much positivity from a supporter base whose club finshed last for the past two years! Spoke to a bloke who said he had been a member for 24 years and had never felt more excited about being a dees fan. Made me realize that despite being under 30, I'd been a member for 19 years but I felt like it was a short time compared to his tenure! Connolls dropped in during the third qtr and was shocked that over 3000 people were at the ground. There's a buzz in the air about the dees. Jack Trengove.... awesome, Scully sublime, Jurrah freakish.

  9. 3rd - Scotty Thompson - I know we were alays going to lose him, but hurt putting all that work into him and then handing it over like that.

2nd - Jeff Farmer - Excitement, talent, showmanship. Had to find a new reason to goto the footy when he left.

1st - David Neitz - I know he wasn't traded, but was certainly a loss. I still feel the gaping holes he left as both a forward & a leader.

  10. Do the AFL have much say in the players penalties from incidents outside of the footy field? (Bet ya they'd love too...Control Freaks!!)

    Ever heard of Ben Cousins?

Whenever they can, the AFL take great steps to ensure the football world knows exactly how much power they have. This will be seen as one of those opportunities.

  11. Wouldn't hold your breath BB. They've been spruiking that station for 5 years now. I wouldn't rely on Casy Council or State Gov to pony up with the goods anytime soon. It took them 5 years longer than it should have to build the Berwick Bypass, and when they did, they only put in 2 lanes!!! Now they wonder why the traffic banks up on the bypass??!! Complete morons who have a proven track record of way too little and way too late.

  12. There is alot more to play out over this incident that is currently at the surface. The AFL have alerted Work Cover of the incident and asked them if the players' behavior towards Casboult constituted barstardisation of an apprentice. Work Cover were unsure and were going to look seriously into the incident. If they find that the players acted illegally, they will pursue the players and the club to the full extent of the law. If Carlton are proven to be liable, the AFL will then charge the entire club with bringing the game into disrepute. The ramifications are huge!

In the meantime Casboult's father went directly to Demetriou to ask if special permission could be granted to trade him to another club, even as a rookie. If that permission were granted (hypothetical, I know), I would love to trade Juice for him.

Lots of ifs and buts, but you can be assured Carlton will not be walking away with a slap on the wrist and a stern warning.

Couldn't happen to a nicer club.

  13. Whilst the GFC definitely had an impact on some aspects of our finances, most noticeably sponsorship income and interest expenses, sport is one area that actually does well during a downturn, as more people spend less time going shopping etc and focus more on the simple things, like going to the footy.

However, you're right in that the extra revenues from the stadium deal, in addition to (hopefully) increasing membership means things are looking promising.

I would've liked to pick up Grimes or Ah Chee or someone like that, however, I guess the FD must've realised that there was a better outcome from picking up a proven performer in McDonald rather than a unknown quantity in Grimes or someone similar.

Agree that people revert to the simple things, but think the point about corporate dollars remains. This is eveidenced by both the fight we had with the Bulldogs over Mission Foods (where the Doggies dropped thier dacks like a drunken schoolie) and the fact we had to get two co-sponsors on board and could only get the deal across the line late in the pre-season due to some impressive persuasion from Demons alumni to thier business contacts. Future is bright on and off the field.
