  1. That is a big loss!

One of our only shining lights so far this year. Hopefully he can get back in 1 or 2 weeks ya never know. I bump into him regularly shopping in Malvern and seems a good fella!Keep ya chin up PJ you will be a gun mate if u can stay on the park

  2. I reckon its probably a little lack of fitness for Rick. Sure he has has a preseason but would not have had too much physical contact. Didnt show too much in the NAB games and probably just isnt match fit! Needs a few runs at Sandy I reckon. He`ll be back though! I would not risk bring Bater in after 5 or so weeks out with a hammy. Madness! the jump from just training to match tempo just might twang it again. Not worth the risk this early!Be great to have both these guys 100% fit, big boost !

  3. I think Cale will be one of the reasons we may see a few latecomers sign up 4 a membership this year. He truly has a little bit of Robbie about him and i don`t mean the size of his arms. Super impressed with his poise for a skinny kid and he already has sublime skills. I still feel we have a long n painful season ahead however watching this kid play gets me as excited as McLeod does for Bruce! SPECIAL! BTW young Wonie looks a likely type. Tough gig to debut against the team of the decade!

  4. The only mugs around here are the (for want of a better word) supporters who can't acknowledge the positive contribution from someone they have bagged because they feel their point of view must be preserved beyond reason! I was pleased to see Miller's contribution today. He was a contributor and he made his presence felt. I can see the coach and the player in question drawing some confidence from that. We are on about list development and if Miller continues to develop along these lines then it is a good thing. I will support anyone who puts body on line and fights to restore some on-field pride in the jumper.

Yep , I couldnt agree more. I have been a big critic of his for the past 2 years but today he played the best game(albeit it 1 half) since the Final in Freo . It is so painfully obvious he belongs at CHF or flank as he actually presented quite well today as he did in that Final. I`ve said for quite some time that we need him to bring his aggression back into the game that we saw in his first year that has gone missing after a few trips to the Tribunal but, if that means getting rubbed out for 1 or 2 then it`d be worth it. If he brings his agro game back he could be a very valuable player for us , something that this team desperately needs. If he can put in 4 quarters , Well ! Wishful thnking maybe but he belongs at CHF and give him a few games there and he just may deliver!

  5. Just heard the odds for us to win the spoon are $1.33 which is a record this early in the season. Shoulda got on the $3.80 offered 2 weeks ago and we could all have enjoyed something this year! The one positive I am hanging my hat on re Dean Bailey is the fact that Port Adelaide only had one maybe two bad years after rebuilding from a flag and a subsequent cleanout! We are basing ourselves on the same gameplan that he was a part of for a number of years including the premiership year.Admittedly, I find it hard to believe the players even understand that gameplan at the moment or if they do they certainly can not produce it. The problem will probably be the cattle out there. Port have recruited very well and not necessarily from high draft picks. We need to be a lot smarter with our recruiting and get some big bodies in the backline! Hang in their guys it will be along long couple of years in the wilderness. We have had them before , this one is just a lot more sudden than usual and harder to take because of poor list management and an incredibly poor showing from senior players for far too long. Give DB a chance!

  6. 7 tackles and 9 contested possessions. the effort is there. he is just out of form and getting support only from Jones in the middle. Oh for a ruckman who could lay some of the opposition midfielders flat to create some space in the middle. If you want to lineup some players, have a crack at White, Green and (a bit harsh due to his experience) Weetra. White provides little in the way of direction when he hangs around half back. Green endangers teammates when he handballs to them and Weetra shows neither the determination or desperation required.

Agreed on Weetra! probably wouldnt get a game at any other club. We gotta keep playing him though as green as he is!

  7. When we are looking at loosing Neitz, White, MacDonald, Yze, Whelan, Holland. Alot of experience will be lost.

I don't know how M.F.C plan is to replace these sort of players.

I think we need to develop all our younger players to Senior level.

We have to have a bad year so we get more Quality draft picks

What are we waiting for? It`s time to play the kids right now! Well, maybe wait til after the Cattery otherwise we may have another record score kicked against us that will stand the test of time!

  8. He was actually there today signing autographs at a table, and looks remarkably like Miller.

Ya sure he wasnt signing a clearance form. Dead set if ya can`t get a game at the moment in this team , it`s time to head for the suburbs!

  9. In the seventies there was Robbie and Later A.Johnson to watch.

In the Eighties there was Healy and Jacko and some great juniors coming through the under 19's and Ressies.

It was always worth getting to the game at 12.00 to watch the last half of the Reserves.

There was always something to hang your hat on.

Now there is no silver lining.

Our President who flies in for quite a few games, bless him, tells us to be more supportive.

He will be back in first class by now. I dont know what to make of that.

We just have to stick with it.

I reckon our 70`s team who were perennial spooners would [censored] this mob today. Spud Dullard could outrun half of em!

  10. Yeah must admit I enjoyed watching him today, but he really does need to bulk up before someone breaks him in half!

Garland on the other hand.. what the hell  . Could not have looked more disinterested if asked to. No aggression. No second attempts. Could not even take the most simple of marks. I know he's just starting out, but so is Morton and look at him, playing with a bit of spark and enthusiasm.

Time to unleash Warnock ! Gee what depth!

  11. It's simply terrible.

Even our best players are not AFL standard at the moment.

What the hell is going on?

Yep! Sad to say but I reckon the much maligned Ben Holland would be one of our better performers if he gets a game. Is he injured?? Our backline needs some height. Has done for 20 years. On paper and just quietly on the field at the moment I doubt I have seen a worse backline in my time as a Demon (40 years)

  12. 1. Neitz to be in a forward pocket

    2. Robertson and Neitz to lead from goal square, Tony Lockett style 30m out shots at goal.

    3. More penetrating kicks into 50 not on the 50.

    4. Replace Davey with Valenti

    5. Moloney into Mid field.

    6. No long Kicks to one on ones. We dont have anyone strong enough to take a strong grab 1-1 unless going to Neitz in goalsquare.

    7. Send Miller back to Sandringham,

    8. Bring back Whelan, Rivers.

    Anyone else have any thoughts?

    7. Send Miller back to Sandringham,

Far too considerate! I think there is a Sandringham in the UK. He would struggle there too!

  13. Morton is special

    A joy to watch

Buckley has no idea what to do with the footy once he gets it, and it happens every time

Probably the only joy we will get all season and one of the reasons we should turn up to watch this pathetic rabble. He will be a genuine superstar I reckon with some of the poise he has shown today under pressure with zero help from his mates. Thank you Cale!

  14. I'm only 18 and thus have no real experience in the matter, so, how 'bout it?

I sat through the late 70`s n early 80`s as a teenager and although we fought for the wooden spoon nearly every year with the saints, they actually had a crack and has some semblance of hardness back then . This is as low as we have been in my 40 years but brace yourself young man, there is a lot more pain ahead of us this year and probably next year. I can deal with the pathetic skill we are showing , but until we get hard, we will be laughed at by every club for along long time to come. Just read our starting backline today. It must send shivers down the oppositions spine!

  15. One of my mates watched an advanced screening of the Bulldogs game last night. I don't want to spoil it for you all, but Sylvia collects 32 possesions, 14 marks - 8 contested, 16 goals, 1 behind. However, Melbourne still lose by 104. Don't ask me.

    We have nothing to fear.

Actually, he is not far off the mark , just a couple of slight errors. Those are his stats for the entire year as a matter of fact, and the 104 is atually our average losing margin for 2008

  16. like what u r saying but i worry about the crowd mate...40000?? in the rain?

I`ll be there regardless of the weather! No excuses for any real supporters today unless you are getting married or going to a funeral. It`s been a bloodbath in the media this week and the players know it. It`s all very good for us supporters to say we want to see some heart on the field and rightly so , but our supporters have been heartless far longer than the players who displayed that insipid trash last week. Get out there and show some spine people. Our club`s future relies as much on us supporters as our players on field actions. Respect!

  17. I know this was a hottly debated topic at the time of it's announcement, but after reading about our leadership group having a meeting to discuss what happened on Sunday, i thought the topic ought to be revisited.

Almost everyone on this site fels pretty strongly that both Yze and Miller are not good enough to hold their respective places in the team. Now throw in Bruce, Robbo and even our skipper Neita as having their spots questioned, things look pretty bleak IMO.

How can you have the leaders of your club not having the form or skills warranted for their selection in the starting 22?

If they are consistently selected, it will cause players underneath them to question if they are being selected due to their standing within the club as a leader and not due to their ability. That kind of stuff eats away at the fabric of a team.

If they are not selected, then where does our leadership come from? What would be they point of the leadership group? Can we change it throughout the year?

When we look back on this season, and if we do as poorly as Sunday has forecasted, i believe most of us here at Demonland and hopefully DB himself will see that this is one part of where we went wrong.

Finally, my leadship group for 2009 is Brock McLean, Nathan Jones, Lynden Dunn, Jarryd Rivers and Cameron Bruce.

Junior is still a leader. you can`t leave him out of the group regardless of who else shouldnt be in there( ie, Yze n Miller)He had a bad day at the office on Sunday (Who didnt?)If we had 22 hearts on the park like his , we`d have won a flag in the last 5 years. Also , 2 B n F`s just quietly ! I agree they need a shake up though, in fact it might be a great wake up call 4 the the whole playing group if one of em got dropped this weekend or perhps 2 of em ( ie , Yze n Miller)

  18. LOL @ everyone dropping Morton and Weetra

Two kids that had a dip and provided a contest at various stages.

Kudos to thos who dropped Cameron Bruce

I would not change the team at all. every so called leader in that team should be read the ``Fevola``. They should each receive a $10000 fine and be told if it happens again they will never play at the club ever again!!

  19. Ugh, Melbourne 'supporters' make me sick!

Support the club or just go away. Honestly, nobody forces you to barrack for Melbourne, so don't let the door hit you on the way out.

Agreed ! By affar the most fair weather supporters in the comp. How is it that we can get 65000 plus in the last few rounds when we are September bound and 3/5 of FA(if u know what I mean) when we are losing ?? Richmond have been losing for 25 years and still have passionate members every year. C`mon fans , get bloody serious and start supporting or we will all be watching Sandy every week within a few years! Might see some wins though!

  20. None of the three.

    Thomastown reserves side.

How about Gold Coast. Then we would only have to put up with him another 2 years I believe or is that 3?? He is a nice bloke Brad , but looks disinterested to say the least . By the way he was far from our worst yday. Get him to play the hard nut style he did so well at 6 years ago or get him out. He is a Qld`er and is probably already thinkn about property in Burleigh Heads.

  21. I paid my membership yesterday and suffered a horrible depressing afternoon in the southern stand after driving two hours from Gippsland. Time to think about some of the posts (and reactions to) posts on demonology and demonland.

A fair degree of sniping and cheap shots are only natural when your team is way down and sometimes make insightful reading. But judging comments by (Chris Connolly?) in the media recently, not always appreciated. As a means around this negativity, and in order to foster some accountability amongst d'landers and ologists, (as we expect from the club) why isn't it mandatory to put your mfc membership number somewhere when registering a post? That way the true believers can vent their spleen and the barrackers can scream from the sidelines. That way those from the club who occasionally read these websites will know what the genuine gut reaction of paid-up members is.

There has been talk about no sub-committees at melbourne and how we are run by the staff. well this is a way to have a genuine 'online', sub-committee which all can genuinely bounce around ideas and emotions about the future direction of mfc.

Secondly, why do the car stickers not have 1858-2008 printed on them? Instead some wordy vague phrase about 'being a part of it'.

Top idea re the membership no`s.. and I will be the first to do so. This s a top forum and a great way to make suggestions , vent spleens etc among true die hard supporters. I only signed up to the site y`day, but a supporter nearly 40 years and I think anyone who has a stab (like we all have the last 24 hrs) on these 2 sites and is not a paid up member should be ashamed of themselves. I love footy and I love the D`s (only a close 2nd to my poor English wife who has inherited the D`s to support for life) If we dont get more members out there the future looks worse than the heartless performance we all saw y`day.

  22. I couldn't have said it better myself. I do think people on here are a little harsh on Bruce and Green although everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I think these guys do try their hardest and are suffering the effects of years of being put in one position one week and another position the following week. Green would be a fantastic half forward. Bruce could have been anything if left to master one position. Just my humble opinion.

Believe it or not Greeney actually did what Morton did last year against both Adelaide n Collingwood and took match saving marks in the dying minutes to save our first 2 wins for us . Come to think of it , he probably cost us a priority pick with those acts of courage. I think I will sit on the fence re The Bruce. Probably underdone and will improve if not reinjured

  23. HellBent i dont think Robbo was doing the comeon i think he was giving the ump a spray.

He was pointing to his temple or eye with one finger and giving it to the ump.

There was definatly no celabrating of goals in the last quarter.

Only once when Morton passed to Green did players go and give Morton a pat on the back for a job well done.

A lot of the players would also be disapointed with there effort today

I hope you are right on the Robbo Cmon. I think my eyes were probably playing up all day as surely some of the things I witnessed out there yesterday dint really happen.Still , I reckon footy doesnt rank too highly on his to do list lately. Full credit to PJ . Sad to think he probably played his best game for us y`day an it won`t get recognised. Only positive I got all day was Morton running back with eyes on the ball and not flinching as he was about to get polaxed. They should just show that vision to the team over n over again. There is nothing else worth watching

  24. I am sick of People Paying Neita out. He is a star of this game and of the club. He could be complaining sooo much more but he doesn't. He could be at another club and be kicking 4 goals a game but he stays and does the team thing. People say he [censored] and old. He isn’t. If he got the type of ball Franklin got today he would have 6. The only reason why Neita is bagged and doesn’t get the respect he should is because of our midfield delivery. He could have had 200 more goals at another club.

If we are going to clean out the club there is no need to get rid of Neita only 1, max 2 years left waste of time and he had earned our respect.

I am certainly not paying out on Neita. Love the bloke and always will. He will probably kick a few bags this year too! Love that he broke another Hawk bone today. Was it McCabe that he broke his collarbone picked up the ball and goaled from 40 ? He is an inspiration and am happy to see 1 more year out of him which will be inspirational to the kids. His best passed him 2 or 3 years ago though and his body is hurting from years of standing up for his teammates.
