  1. If he is fully fit and there is no possible risk of injury then give him a game. It will get the debut nerves out of the way for the entire pre season plus give him a taste of what it's like to play in the Seniors so he can carry that into the preseason as motivation. I think it makes a lot of sense to get that game out of the way. It will also be more low key at the end of this season as our season is done and dusted whereas it will be surrounded in pre game hype next year with everyone optimistic for the season until half time of the first game. They did the same thing for Grimes giving him his debut in the last game of the season and he said it gave him great motivation over the pre season to have tasted it.
  2. More likely to be the pick straight after our first pick not end of first round. So if we finish 17th it would be pick 3 straight after our pick 2. I'd take the pick over Chip. No disrespect to Chip but I don't think he will do for us going forward what pick 3 would do for us. Or pick 4 or 5 depending on where we end up.
  3. I read or heard somewhere that he is following a very gentle, progressive, long term, fitness program set up by the Club. Some of those words are mine as that's my impression of the program he's been given by the Club.
  4. Mods can you please change the Topic heading back to the original heading of Roosy signs on for third year. Thanks It's Time
  5. No idea about Stone but hope he stays around the Club. You make a good point though. From memory when Longmire became the "Senior Assistant" under Roosy he stepped away from being a line coach and sat over all of them. He used to run the overview in the box while Roosy was on the boundary line dealing more with individual players. So don't have to necessarily remove a coach. Although Benny Mathews and Stoney are both midfield coaches. I'm interested in what would happen to Rawlings. I rate him very highly and think he must be in the running as the Senior Assistant. His coaching has created a very strong backline well before Roosy arrived. Seems to be highly regarded by the players. Speaks very well when I have heard him. Has put his hand up before for a Senior Coaching job at Richmond and was overlooked and then left. I wonder if he is even putting up his hand. If he is overlooked this time will he leave.
  6. Hope not, unless they are doing grass skiing. More likely Commonwealth Games. But hey, based on Jon Ralph's journalism he could have gone to Socchi now.
  7. Hi Mods, will you please change the thread heading back to Roos signs for 3rd year once it is announced. I don't have confirmation yet but am hearing it is going to be announced shortly.
  8. Love your source. A lot better than mine. Bomber was asked about the Succession plan on AFL 360 earlier in the year and said he wouldn't work under Roosy under the succession plan. Bomber made a fortune in a land deal outside Geelong and is set financially for the rest of his life. He doesn't have to do this gig no matter what he's paid. So it would only be for the love of coaching. Not sure that would be enough motivation for him. Also he's the same age as Roosy, 50 so does he want to commit to this coaching gig long term. We don't need another coach who's only going to do the job for 2-3 years. Does someone at his age and in his financial situation want or need to commit to a long term coaching gig. Especially as he was so burnt out at Geelong. I can't see it working for Bomber. Maybe in some other capacity. Very few people have commented on the fact that on Footy Classified Roosy made it clear his ongoing role at the Club would only be part time, he doesn't want a full time position and plans to spend time o/s each year. So doesn't sound like a Head of Footy Dept role. Sounds more like some kind of part time mentoring role. This could open up that position for Bomber. I would have thought improving the list is the most important thing he can do for the Club long term beyond what he'll bring in his short term coaching stint.
  9. Yep, clearly Vince is better but maybe we're being a bit harsh seeing Vince has much more experience. Give it time and Tyson might be able to catch up.
  10. OK, after watching Footy Classified after I posted this topic I began to wonder about the accuracy of the comment from the Club so I tracked down the number from the person that rang me yesterday and just rang him again to get a confirmation. At least I could confirm that he was ringing from the Club which was a relief as I was beginning to wonder if it was a scam. He based the comment largely on a Matt Burgan article from 22 May headed "Three years for me as coach: Roos" If you read the article it doesn't say anything different to what Roosy has been saying all along. He said he apologised if he was misleading what the situation is but that's what that article says which actually it doesn't. Here is the link for the article although you won't find anything out from it that hasn't already been said. http://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/2014-05-22/three-years-for-me-as-coach-roos- Other than that he said he cant confirm that Roosy has actually signed but has had general conversations within the Club that the plan is for him to coach a third year. That doesn't mean he has signed yet. So, sorry for starting this topic with what I thought was reliable information directly from the Club. For what it's worth like most here, I'm sure Roosy will sign for the third year but clearly that doesn't come from a reliable source.
  11. Just got a call from the Club for a fund raiser and the caller mentioned how good the news was that Roosy has signed for the third year. I said I hadn't heard that anywhere and he said he's glad to pass on the news. Haven't seen it mentioned anywhere in the Press yet. Anyone heard anything? IMHO his job will take 5 yrs not 3, so I'll be excited when I hear about the next two year extension. With Kirky committing to the third year of his contract next year at Freo and Roosy ruling Lingy out as the successor, I wonder how the succession plan is going? Let's hope not well and he's starting to think about a 5yr plan.
  12. I love your Zac Dawson example. Spot on. Still can't work out how that spud has had a career in two pretty handy teams. Obviously does his job.
  13. I wouldn't bet on Lingy coming on board as the annointed Senior Assistant for the Succession Plan. More likely to just be an Assistant. Who better to learn under than Roos. I would be amazed if he gets the nod. He's got no coaching experience at all. I have coached at Junior level for quite a few years and believe me even at that level there is a hell of a difference being an Assistant to being the person going out there to address the players and actually run the show. This of course would be ten times more so with AFL. You wouldn't have a clue if you had what it takes to even put up your hand until you'd been an Assistant for a few years. Clearly hasn't worked for Hird and Voss jumping in with no prior. Would be strange for Roos to take on Lingy with no prior experience. He just couldn't know if he will work or not. Whereas Kirky has been doing it very successfully for several years now. Last year to a GF and probably this year as well. Plus he comes from the same philosophy and background. Fits the position too well for me not to be the pick if he wants it.
  14. I couldn't work out why Sheahan raised this. Chip is a Free Agent, he can go wherever he likes. A team getting him doesn't have to do a deal to get him he can just walk to them.
  15. He was cut down by injury but had some outstanding games when he managed to play. Boyd hasn't had any of those injuries and isn't showing anything.
  16. People get seduced by high pick's too easily. If you took Boyd purely on his performance this year and not on his draft position you'd have to have a very different opinion of him. He's been extremely poor in his first few games. Hardly got a touch. On the basis of those performances he would be a huge risk. He might be a player who's early physical development gave him a huge advantage at Junior level but he doesn't kick on at Senior level. He is a risk at this point. Do we need to take more risks with high draft picks. I think not. Jono O'Rourke has been very disappointing so far even though he was a no. 3 pick. You wouldn't offer up one of our high picks for him now.
  17. It's a bit of a strange one and shows how badly the AFL have invested in the northern markets. Basically the AFL want to address the fact that there are a fraction of players on AFL lists from the biggest state in the country and from Qld. I believe last year there were no players recruited from NSW. I guess it also addresses the go home factor. So for some bizarre reason the AFL has put it on the Northern Clubs to spend their own money to develop junior players throughout Qld and NSW. In return for this significant investment and risk they get access to the players they develop through a father/son bidding system. The problem with the system as I see it is that the AFL should be running the Academies not the teams. But as long as the teams are then they should be entitled to first bid at the players. Sydney have spent millions over about 5 or 6 years investing in their Academy. About 6 years ago they started inviting every Junior footy player in NSW to come in for screenings and have around 500 junior players coming up through the Academy each year. After all that investment and all those players they are about to get the first player, Heeney, and the Eddie McGuires of this world then go beserk about the unfair advantage.
  18. He's the sort of player who might get it together if shown a bit of faith by the coach and given enough games to believe he should be there. Hope he is given enough in a row now. It'll either make him or break him. Maybe a few others in this boat. For instance Blease. Hope to see him before the end of the season, otherwise can't see him staying on the list. Not meaning to hijack the thread off Kent but he's not alone.
  19. His best is very good but IMO disappears way too much out of games. Needs to stay involved much more to be a player. Jury still out for me.
  20. I had always thought this until I realised that it isn't automatic that we'd get a first round pick for him straight after our first round pick. This will depend on how much he gets paid and how long his contract is. At the moment the press are saying Freo has rejected $700k and Hawks have rejected $650k. How correct those claims are I don't know. So if he ends up at say $550 for 3 yrs is that enough for us to get a first rounder or does it become a second rounder. Eg Sylvia's contract was only worth a second round pick. I'd be spewing if we lose Frawley for a second rounder. So now we have to sweat on what his deal will be. I'm now hoping he will go to the Suns who will pay the max to get who they want and will probably give a long term contract, say 5yrs. I'm sure $600k per year over 5yrs would get us a first rounder. Healey says a key back and a ruckman are the missing pieces for them now. So he would satisfy this and they are likely to be consistently in the finals from now on, assuming they get there this year and they are looking like it at this point. Early mail I heard from a Hawks supporter was that he was already on his way there. If that's right it might not be enough to get a first rounder.
  21. Roos is apparently on a mission to build a tall big bodied midfield ah la Freo. Mitchell is another shorty. Mind you Sydney have a lot of shorties in their midfield and they seem to do all right. Mitchell has played some sensational games early but has also tappered off quite a lot later last season and hasn't done much this season. Has had a lot of injuries already. Given what I've heard about the ready to go bigger bodies of Brayshaw and Petracca, I'm not sure we would give up our top pick but if we had a compo pick for Frawley we might give it up as well as getting one of those two bigger bodies. Longmire stated specifically he didn't play last round because he's been injured the past two weeks. I'd be very surprised if he isn't playing in the team by the end of the season. If he isn't because he can't crack the team then he would definitely fit the Roos category of player who can't get a game at another Club because there are too many similar players.
  22. Sheesh. The bunch of piranahs eating their own on this place continues to amaze me. I too have met Saty at training on a trip down to Melbourne. Here is a guy who makes it to training regularly enough for the players to know him and tell him things that others on here don't seem to find out. He takes the trouble to sit down and write them up so those who are interested can find out things that we wouldn't find out otherwise. Especially those of us living interstate. Saty doesn't matter what you put on here or how you put it. There are people on here who need to vent for their own mental health reasons. I'm sure the vast majority are like me and Hardtrack and grateful for the time you take to bother to put anything up at all.
  23. Thanks. I thought they were the same thing. So those emails Dank said he had from ASADA were only to do with AOD 9604 and TB4 is unrelated and I take it was always a banned substance.
