Just so we can be clear about Eddie Everywhere and Perty's involvement in the footy dept at the Pies. Here's Eddie E's explanation and the url if you want to read the full article :- McGuire said the relationship between Malthouse and Pert at Collingwood became fractious, but praised them for their roles in the Magpies' 2010 premiership. He also said he fuelled some of the friction between them. "When you have a football department which is strong, sometimes you need to have an administration which is strong as well and Gary Pert being a champion footballer and a well-placed administrator was positioned into the football department at times to make sure everything was going the right way," McGuire told Triple M. "As the president of the club, you sometimes position people into situations. "Yeah, there was no doubt there was some friction there along the way and agreements made and falling out along the journey in the succession plan - that's been and gone. https://au.sports.yahoo.com/malthouse-rips-pert-over-afl-role-015621443--spt.html Hopefully this answers one of the biggest knocks against Pert. Eddie clearly states he positioned Pert into the football department. Of course that would have ruffled feathers. But don't forget the footy dept there was extremely dysfunctional and clearly by Eddie Everywhere's own admission he was responsible for the admin interference. I would imagine there can be a lot of deadwood in a footy Club that has to be continually sorted. This usually results in people being very negative. No surprises there. We may well lose 1 or all of the 3 internal candidates because they didn't get the job. But at least 2 would have felt the same way if one of them had been appointed. PJ set that up. You can't blame the Board or Pert if they leave. Of course I hope they don't leave. I would be very surprised if PJ didn't have any role in the process that was setup to select the next CEO. For instance identifying key issues for the club over the next 4-10 years and therefore the best skill set for those issues. That doesn't mean he would have been included in the final decision. He would most likely be seen as not being impartial as he had several candidates that he apparently has groomed for the role and therefore would have been compromised in making an independent unbiased decision. As far as culture is concerned. Roosy invested a lot of time into the Admin to make sure they were on the same page culturally as the footy team. Perty and Roosy go back a long way. I'd be very surprised if he wasn't consulted about Perty and his likely impact on the culture he had a lot to do with creating. If Roosy hadn't have backed him I'd be surprised if he was selected. I don't have any inside info but it makes sense.

The interesting thing about this situation is that everyone thought there was a PJ succession plan for an internal candidate. How come then there were 3 internal candidates not just one? So if an internal PJ candidate had got it there would have been 2 that missed out and be looking elsewhere anyway.

PJ has set him up beautifully. Best time to be the CEO of our soon to be great again Club in the past 50 years if not ever. It sounds like PJ has already set up where and what the training base is going to be. Other than that he's going to have the biggest bucket of money the Club has ever had from Leighoak and ultimately the sale of the Bentleigh Club. He's inheriting not only PJ's work but also the Gardiner admin's work in getting those venues. Plus hopefully the footy Dept is very settled at the moment with most pieces in place. There's no one more experienced in the AFL industry to develop facilities and membership. Bring it on.

You're so right. Worth the rest put together. Our collective lives would have been so different if we had him in '07 onwards.

I had hoped I wouldn't see the MFC have anything to do with CFC or its off spring. It hasn't been a happy hunting ground lately. IN: Dawes Neeld Lumumba Out: Dunn Howe Lets hope the mould is about to be broken. Although after a year out arguably it isn't direct contact.

Doesn’t surprise me to hear CFC was toxic when he left. As others have said the Balme/Gubby Allen Buckley situation had Eddie all over it. Doubt Perry had much control over that complete balls up. MFC’s 2 biggest challenges over next ten years are 1 building sustainable membership. No one better in the industry than Perty. Knows everything about it having successfully doubled the membership at the biggest Club. 2. Building the permanent training and Admin facilities. Again no one better or more experienced in the industry. This is tied in to making the best commercial decisions in how to utilise the pot of gold from Leighoak and Bentleigh Club. No doubt PJ had put work into Mahoney as a succession plan. And de Crepney is one of the best in the business. PJ may have done a great job with them but that doesn’t mean you should ignore a much better candidate. How could you take a football manager with no commercial experience other than a Uni degree over someone with Perty’s experience. PJ succession plan or not. It sounds like PJ and the Board have already made the decision on the site for the new facilities. Perty has the perfect experience to execute. I just hope they have got it right. Won’t be his fault if they don’t.
  7. Won't have the draft currency next year either. That's the cost of throwing away this year's first rounder on Lever. It costs us this year and also stops us from trading it away next year. We have to use next year's first rounder as it's our last chance to satisfy the requirement to use a first rounder every four years. So we have to use ours next year can't trade it away.
  8. Accchhh!! Another stuffed up draft selection. We picked up a dud the pick before he went and got O Mac when we could have had him. But seriously this was definitely one of the better trade and draft periods we've ever had. Traded pick 23 for Frost and what became ANB and O Mac in the draft. That's got to be one of the great trades of all time. I'm happy to admit I was one squealing at the time that we'd given up pick 23 for Frost who was on our radar but for a much later pick. But what they did with the picks40 & 53 we got as well was sensational. Both expected to go in the 2nd round. Also traded in Garlett & 83 for picks 61 79 Also upgraded a player who had been delisted and redrafted onto the rookie list............... ........Neville Jetta. Interestingly Pat McKenna is only one of 4 up to Langdon's pick 54 in his 2014 draft who hasn't played a game yet. Not to mention drafting a couple of handy players with our original picks 2,3 & 40, Petracca, Brayshaw & Stretch.
  9. This is a massive membership burst for this time of year compared to last year where there was only about 120 new members in this period. This year its over 1000. On the basis of previous years increases at this time of year we were heading for 43,500 but now it could hit 45,000. Love PJ to go out on a 45000 membership. What a crowning achievement that would be to his reign and his legacy for the future of the Club.
  10. I rang a couple of days ago organising a couple of things and it was quite a long wait, they said they're sorry for the wait but they are flat out signing up new members. Yeh......
  11. On the club website under the Membership tag at the top of the screen. It has the updated number there.
  12. That's what this Forum is all about. It's a lot more effective than paying for some professional psychologist to try and treat your MFCSS attacks when no one other than members on here have a clue about or know how to treat.
  13. From this point last year to the close of memberships we increased by only another 3,000. At the moment we are tracking about 1,000 more members than last year. Although it sounds great to have reached the 40,000 nearly a month earlier than last year it looks like we'll end up around 43,200. No doubt wins in the next two weeks would push that a bit more but even so unfortunately looks like 45,000 won't be reached this year. Wonder what the Club has to do to get to 50,000. Obviously finals will help but I wonder what else.
  14. I was at the Swans V Port game. Jeez this kid can play. Would we take him if he came to us before the end of the season and said he wanted to play with and for the Vineys. I guess with Clarry and a fit Viney we don't really need him. Other great teams have had threesomes. Briso's great trifecta, Eagles when Judd was still there, Cats have gone that way this year. I'd take him if we could. Problem is it can't happen without some major trading of players. We don't have a first rounder this year and will have to use next year's in the draft so we couldn't nab him anyway. But if we could what a midfield it would be.
  15. You’re my Source for everything and anything Sometimes trades come to the Club in its sleep.
  16. OK, don't know how but you caught me. Fantasising that is. Lynch will be a free agent so no need to trade picks. Gaff is a free agent so no need to trade picks. Wines or possibly Sloane might be available and if Hogan left we could use his picks to get them. What an off season that'd be. However, let me say, I truly deeply hope Hoges stays. Mind you for various reasons we'v only seen glimpses of greatness. He hasn't arrived there yet. I think he will unless there's some overwhelming personal reason for going home. He would be kissing what's about to be a great run with as good a chance as any of a Premiership in the next say 3-5 years. He's grown up with the group who will be achieving that since he was 17yrs old. He'd be doing that to go to a team, Freo that is at the very beginning of a long rebuild that may or may not be successful many years in the future.
  17. Houston we have a problem. I was one firmly in the camp that getting Lever was fantastic but IMHO given Crows wanted Gibbs etc etc we should never have given away this years first round pick and it will come back to bite us on the arse. What do we have to give to Port now if he wants to come to us? We can't give them next year's first rounder because we have to use it to meet the one first round pick in 4 years rule. He's certainly worth a first rounder especially in this year's bumper draft. If Jesse went back to Perth we'd have one. But short of that we won't. So all we'll have is players. Tyson and ANB come to mind. I wouldn't think ANB on his own even with a second round pick would be enough. Tyson wouldn't be. Do we want to give up ANB and/or Tyson anyway for what OW brings. Without this year's first rounder I don't see how we get this done for any value that would make sense.
  18. Good point. Although they still have a predominantly very young list so other than Buddy would have some room. They could back end a contract because 2019 is the last big money year for Buddy.
  19. According to Tom Harley in his interview on SEN Tippett's injury wasn't career ending and it was his decision to retire early so his payout will not be included in the salary cap after this year. Tippett had a trigger clause in his contract for big bucks for a year or two extension but apparently he was very reasonable about it and agreed to take much less each year but extend the contract for longer to the end of 2020. As he has decided to retire early and end the contract apparently he agreed to a very fair payout. I think you'll find the salary cap space that opens up isn't as big as you think. It will still really help them though. Especially as next year is the last really big bucks year on Buddy's contract. It tapers off by about 50% from 2020 onwards. I get the feeling from what Sloane has said that if he goes it will be back home to Vic. So assuming the money is the same that's where he'll end up. Don't know where.
  20. Someone I know watched a lot of his school footy last year. I believe he was the Captain of Melbourne Grammar. Said 4 things :- 1. Hard as nails. Runs through brick walls. 2. Highly skilled. Very good kick and exceptional goal sense. 3. Very strong contested overhead mark with an unusually high vertical leap for his height. 4. Great kid.
  21. My sons 19. I wonder if I can get one of these for him.
  22. Interesting that in late October the tally was over 6,000 behind last year and now has caught up and will be ahead by the same date. Maybe automatic renewals hadn't gone through or something. It's a big catch up. Otherwise who is it? We had Lever by then so its not him. Take your pick on our draftees. I'm going Oscar B. It's the hair. It's worth over 6,000 new members. Or it could be that Clarry has created a frenzy around Ranga's.
  23. Just had a look at the draft replay. They mentioned that he just fell over a fence and broke his elbow which will take 6 weeks to recover. Also he's very light so will take a while to fill out. As others have mentioned looks like Lever 2.0. Bit surprised we went for yet another key defender, would have thought there were other positions with less depth but clearly there wasn't a suitable ruckman or we would have taken one and I'm guessing he was seen as best available at this pick and if he turns into a star we'll be very happy irrespective of the depth in that position at the moment.
  24. You can relax JT said in his interview on the website we will be going best available. I think this is more likely this year than most of the past 10 years as we have depth in most positions and are now in a position to try and improve the talent in each position. So best available.
