NOT Taylor Walker
Perhaps we could ask Jake Lever if he could give Tex a reference?

2022 Injury List
With a bye at the end of the home and away games, that would give TMac some slight hope of playing but he would have to incorporate some sort of mid-season with the next 8 to 10 weeks. He’s probably an outside chance at best.

2022 NAB AFL NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
Vic Country beat the Allies by 33 points in a dour struggle in Brisbane which produced far less impressive football than what we saw yesterday at Ikon Park. A couple of Vic Country midfielders in Jhye Clark and Mitch Szybkowski impressed but most of the high end talent that I’ve seen so far is coming from Vic Metro, SA and WA. I should add that Jaxon Binns of Vic Country was a prolific ball winner and worth keeping an eye on. Blistering Binns runs rings around Allies On what I’ve seen to date I’m not satisfied that we can cover our key position tall forward issues from the players on display in the NAB Australian Championships. I haven’t seen a ruck replacement for Luke Jackson readily available from these ranks if he decides to leave.

CHANGES: Rd 17 vs Geelong
The fact that we’re coming off a five day break should be a factor in team selection. It’s good to know that Max will be back and possibly Dogga. To then have the likes of Hunt and Rivers available to bring in if required is a luxury.

2022 NAB AFL NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
Seven-goal Jefferson, No.1 contender star as Metro downs WA Matthew Jefferson really did thrust his name before the numerous recruiters sitting in the stands at Ikon Park today when he booted 7 goals for Vic Metro against WA today. Will Ashcroft also shone for the Victorians and remains a likely #1 prospect as a father/son selection for Brisbane. WA’s Elijah Hewitt’s performance was also a highlight in a strange game where there was no wind but most of the scoring was done at one end of the ground. Metro’s accuracy in front of goals was the main difference between two powerful sides. Vic Metro 4.1.25 5.1.31 13.4.82 16.5 (101) Western Australia 1.4.10 5.10.40 6.11.47 10.14 (74) GOALS Vic Metro: Jefferson 7, Davey 2, Sheezel 2, Ashcroft, Clarke, Hotton, Mackenzie, Windsor Western Australia: Cole 2, Hewett 2, Jones 2, Bourne, Cleaver, Julian, Tholstrup “My name Jeff” – Metro forward hits seventh heaven

That’s correct. Someone will take McKenzie in the top 40 and St Kilda won’t have the chance to match the bid.

TEAMS: Rd 16 vs Adelaide
My view about Aaron Bradtke last year was that he was being played in the key defensive positions because he wasn’t developing as a ruckman. In any event, the record shows that Bradtke was registered with VAFA B Section club Old Haileybury on 17 March, 2022 and has only managed 3 games at that level, the last of which was on 28 May, 2022. This indicates that he’s not doing anything to suggest that the decision to delist him was incorrect.

So the team is announced at around 6:30pm and three hours later, a player’s out injured. How does that work?

Sean Wight
Today we remember Sean Wight who passed away on this day 11 years ago. A great footballer and, along with Jimmy, one of the success stories of the Irish experiment. Sean Wight (15 March 1964 – 30 June 2011) Sean is a member of the Melbourne Football Club Hall of Fame and was named as one of the 150 Heroes of the club during the club's 150th celebrations. The 185 cm tall, 85 kg Wight played for the Melbourne Football Club between 1985 and 1995, playing 150 games and scoring 63 goals. He is not only the first player to be associated with the Irish experiment, but also considered to be one of its most successful products. Wight was scouted by the Melbourne Football Club's Ron Barassi and Barry Richardson on a visit to Ireland in 1982 as having the potential to play Australian rules football. Before playing Australian rules, he played Gaelic football with the Kerry minor (Under-18) team which reached the final of the 1982 All-Ireland Minor Football Championship and with the Listowel Emmets club - the same club as Tadhg Kennelly. Wight was brought to Australia in 1983. He was part of an Under 19 VFL premiership side just weeks after his arrival from Ireland in 1983 and was widely hailed for his rapid conversion, though others who joined him from Ireland had much less success. Wight made his VFL debut in 1985 and became a regular backline player, recognisable with his trademark moustache. Wight played in two Demons night premiership winning sides, in 1987 and 1989. He began to develop a reputation as a dour defender, with an exceptional ability to not only spoil opponents marking attempts, but take high marks himself. Wight, along with fellow recruit Jim Stynes was a member of Melbourne's 1988 VFL Grand Final team which lost to Hawthorn. Retiring in 1995, Wight's career was somewhat overshadowed by Stynes, whose career in the midfield earned more accolades and media attention. Wight died on 30 June 2011 after a short battle with lung cancer. From Wikipedia

Finn Emile-Brennan
From Scouting Notes: 2022 AFL U18s – South Australia vs. Vic Country #13 Finn Emile-Brennan (Dandenong Stingrays) 7/05/2004 | 181cm | 62kg | Defender “The Melbourne Next-Generation Academy member certainly has some eye-catching traits, and showcased all of them in a promising representative outing. Operating in his usual role off half-back, Emile-Brennan was aggressive with his rebound run and kicking, displaying great athleticism to break the lines and surge Country forward. He was shifted up to the wing in term four, with his punchy ball use a feature among 19 touches.”

Farewell Luke Jackson
Does heading off to play for West Coast for big bucks constitute being bold? I would have thought it was the other way round. Taking a long term approach with your career and staying at your first club for a lesser remuneration for the sake of team success down the track and greater rewards financially and personally later on is being bold in my view.
