I'm told that Buckley also came out in support of Melbourne on the tanking issue stating that all clubs whose seasons are shot do exactly what Melbourne's done i.e. embarked on a policy where team development was more important than winning. Every club did it but only one of them is being investigated and that is the scandal of the year.

49ers still travelling well. Do any of the teams in the NFL ever tank?

Jack Watts
No offence taken bub but there are plenty who don't appreciate the obvious preferring to blame a 21 year old kid for their frustrations about the team's overall performance.

I have a lot of time for the opinions of Colin Wisbey from the Collingwood supporters Bulletin Board and this is what he says about Jack Watts:- He makes two interesting points:- 1. We still need to give Watts more time and 2. The MFC's development of its young players has been nothing short of appalling. I agree with both points and hope that the football department under Neeld/Craig/Misson manage to get things in order from hereon in. I'm hopeful and I certainly wouldn't be bagging our young players at this stage. I want to see how they get through the coming pre season which the FD promises to be the one that drills them up to close to the same levels that the leading clubs reach every pre season and not the far inferior levels comparatively of the fitness, conditioning and skills work we are told have applied for the past decade.

It's good to hear the 49ers are out of the wilderness after so many years. I know they made the playoffs last year but they've been so disappointing since the Joe Montana/Jerry Rice days. I'll get into this as soon as the AFL is done and dusted next week.

Anyone for cricket?
I'm not sure as to whether it's appropriate to include discussion on the T20 championships in this thread but I must question the application of DL to T20 when we can win a game and score 91 runs less than the opposition. I think the other game played overnight became a 7 overs a side game. Ridiculous!

Josh Caddy
I'm with those who are of the view that we shouldn't allow players and their management to stand over us in regard to recruiting. If we want the player and believe he fits into our plans, by all means go for him. By the same token BRFE makes the point that Caddy isn't all that good. He finished 17th in the B & F of a club that finished 17th in the competition. He didn't set the world on fire in the few games I watched him play and even if the reason was because he wasn't happy in that environment after wanting to go back home, I don't look upon that sort of attitude very favourably. Let the other clubs fight for him. I think there would be no shortage of available midfielders of equal or better ability at pick 13 or alternatively other trades possible for that pick which seems to be the approximate cost of a trade for him if there are as many as five other suitors. Good luck to him and to them.

The wheel does turn. This reminds me of the time when a certain Ryan Ferguson turned his nose up at the then lowly Hawthorn after a trade for Brad Sewell was suggested. Karma got Ferguson and it will eventually get Caddy because he ain't all that good himself.
