Has there ever been an instance where a potential top 10 draftee was invited to night one but passed on because plans changed on the night?

AFL Draft 2025: Picks 7 & 8
That's a power ranking. That's their power levels if they're going to fight to the death

We deem him more likely to fill a need for us than anyone else available at pic 8 is essentially what it boils down to. Don't get to wrapped up with pic numbers and players perceived draft positions.

AFL Draft 2025: Picks 7 & 8
Yeah will be interesting, I reckon we just keep offering up live trades. Have to wait until night 2 to watch all this play out though ffs.

AFL Draft 2025: Picks 7 & 8
We'd have to trade GCf1 FOR Pickett. The range of draft picks that other clubs have that won't be used for matched bids etc falls outside anything we can do to trade back.

AFL Draft 2025: Picks 7 & 8
He's been touted to be around the early teens and being looked at by clubs like GWS and Hawks, so there's every chance.

Adelaide might bite but all they have is 16 then 48. Do we go 8 and 37 for 16, Adel F1 & 48?

He seems like a lesser version which probably explains our lack of interest. Grilj seems like the more complimentary player with his pace and agility

Harsh, but I was re watching some Langford highlights last night and it just seems like everything Sharp can do we already have that with Langford, so can understand why they'd look for something a little different

[censored] we gotta live trade GC F1st to anyone who'll take it for to grab him.

Short term view should be off the table - they're rookies. There's a lot of vision of Sharp playing forward and showing some craft at making position and being a good mark and kick for goal. I think the whole "one trick pony" thing might be overplayed a bit here.

Lol at us talking like we don't need talent at every possible position. He won't slip to us, and if he does we'd be mental not to take him.

AFL Draft 2025: Picks 7 & 8
Is the Pickett talk based on anything apart from us on here wanting another Pickett? Genuine question there isn't enough footage of him out there..

AFL Draft 2025: Picks 7 & 8
Exactly. Grilj @ 7, Dovaston @ 8, get creative and try to live trade GC F1st for a crack at Pickett or failing that get Kozzie to whisper in his ear and poach him in a couple of years time.
-
Sam Grlj
It's got to be a smokescreen. Everything about his game screams fast ball movement which is what King is looking for.

AFL Draft 2025: Picks 7 & 8
You make a compelling case but the only problem is for the same reason we want to trade up - I don't think WC will be willing to trade down (to our pics) Seems like if we're just outside the top end talent zone then if WC were to trade down it would be with Essendon. We still need a lot of foot soldiers and 7 + 8 can at least (we hope) provide 2 of them. GC's F1 next year could still prove valuable either in a trade up for that year or an outright slider.

AFL Draft 2025: Picks 7 & 8
Do you think WB would trade pick 14 for GC F1st to stock up the pics for Butters?

AFL Draft 2025: Picks 7 & 8
We're going to take another WA boy aren't we? You know then the mouse goes for the electrified cheese they get the hint after the first couple of zaps.. What will it take for us to learn?

AFL Draft 2025: Phantom Drafts
It's worth noting that these boys rate Sharp very high and Jess is a WC supporter so he's chosen Sharp at 2. I rate Sharp but have a feeling WC will go Dursma and CDT, Grilj to Rich, Sharp slides to Essendon and Cumming slide to us..

AFL Draft 2025: Picks 7 & 8
We should be throwing everything at free agent Ben King too. Bring them over together.
-
AFL Draft 2025: Phantom Drafts
They've posted another mock 30 (their final draft) since then where they took some criticism on board and changed it to Grlj and Dovaston. Needless to say, that result would be nuts! @10:39

AFL Draft 2025: Picks 7 & 8
Yeah I'm with you on our forward situation but would rather adress our mids and small forward needs through the draft (were good at that) and throw everything at an already developed key forward when the time is right (we should be buttering Ben King up big time)

Probably. Guess it depends if WC see something they like that will go before 13 and they see the first 7 as similar. It's clutching at straws tbh

If Essendon don't trade up with WC we could be a strong chance to trade 7 & 8 for WC 2 & 13. Robey and Pickett. I'd be good with that..

Looking at everyone's assets I don't see how we can get a mid teens pick without trading 7/8 down..
