Yes!! I actually feel bad for being sad when I see him get up sore from a contest and then just run it off 😅

It’s also been well publicised that the decision on Hinkley’s contract will be made in August. He may we’ll have set out the plan this year to get as many wins in the H&A season as possible, and take a gamble on the finals, to sure up his contract.

    Well said!

I can’t speak for everyone, but I don’t think anyone would say our forward footy over the past 6 weeks has been good. The debate comes down to - how much is this a planned temporary change, how easily it can be rectified, and what it means for our season.

I believe the FD's logic is this: Our players are more fatigued than earlier in the year, so rather than kick to an open forward line where the ball may sling shot back out, requiring our players to sprint back into defence, they slow down to allow our players to get back and either; Take a contested mark Kick a crumbing goal from the marking contest, or Create a stoppage (or several) in the F50 You're right in that it exacerbates our poor kicking - it typically puts players under more pressure when having a shot in open play or puts them at sharp angles for set shots. IF the game style change is due to fatigue and protecting players during the 'second act' of the season, the FD knows they risk losing games because it highlights the lists deficiencies. But they likely see that as acceptable in order to protect players from burnout and injury that an end-to-end game might cause at this time of the year. We will know in about 4-6 weeks whether the game plan change we've seen for the past 6 rounds was a short-term change to accommodate the challenges of the middle part of the season, or if the FD lost it's nerve and reverted to a 'safe' style. We're 2-4 since the Port game, having lost by 4, 7, 15, and 2, and beaten the league leaders during that time. If the players are playing poorly, and/or the game style is terrible - it won't take much for us to turn games into wins, given how close we've been despite how terrible it may seem.

The Italian National Team would be proud of that effort by GWS - a big ol' park the bus and get them on the rebound. I know it doesn't help us, but I HATE when teams do that. We lost that game, GWS didn't win it. Kick just a few of those opportunities we had and the game would have been over at 3/4 time given the rain.

    Not just loading... power loading...
  8. An amazing effort to get to 65,000 after and so close to our 2022 figure.
  9. Neither - just need to rename the pod to the 'Tigerland Podcast' 😆 It makes you all sound like some of the regulars who hang out at my location train station here in Moe!
  10. I’m going to give this a try simply because you and Binman already talk quite quickly, so I might get a laugh from the sound of “Amphetamine Andy” and “Buzzing Binman”.
  11. I just finished the podcast at normal speed @Demonland it was great content - I didn’t have a solid block of time where I could listen to it in one sitting, so i broke it up into a few sittings. It was excellent coverage of the other contenders and their runs home. I like to use the squiggle ladder predictor every few weeks, just to gauge how some teams might rise or fall with the uneven “fixture”.

The last time we had a 10 day break, we flogged the Lions by 10 goals. Goody might be confident of a similar result this time around!
  13. Thanks guys - the 3-hour loading podcast last week was great. I'm sure you guys will be delivering explosive podcasts from Round 20 onwards 😁 We saw teams adopt specific strategies as a way to counter Melbourne's game plan. This included: Stronger use of the corridor, Short and quick 15-20 metre kicks to allow transition (by hand or foot) beyond Melbourne's defensive zone, and When we kicked long to a contest, spoiling the ball long / well clear of the contest to circumvent our crumbers and contested ball winners. Geelong used all three to great success in our Round 17 game last year. Over the first 13 rounds we've seen what the Dees response to these strategies from 2022 has been, with particular success in our wins against the Swans in Round 3 and the Pies in Round 13. We seem to have developed a counterstrategy to how teams beat us in 2022. Go fast and we can beat you, go slow and we will definitely beat you. Given this, have you seen anything in our losses this year that suggests we're susceptible to a new strategy or gameday tactic? Was there anything about how Essendon and Port moved the ball against us that causes you concern? Sorry for the long question, and thanks for the continued high quality content you gents produce! 😊

@binman did you get on the Dees yesterday at $2.10? We’re now favourites at $1.85 to cats at $2.00 after the Dangerfield injury and their overall performance against Port.
  15. This can’t be true as I’m positive Maynard dropped out after year 8. I get the impression he’s asking as thick as two bricks.

I’d love to see this structure given a try, as I think it’s very dynamic and could be a challenge for a lot of teams to match up on. Petty, JVR, Fritsch, Smith, ANB, Kossie, and Chandler.
  17. I said at the start of the year that the two teams I really wanted to beat was Sydney and Collingwood. But now that our next game is Geelong, I now really want to add them to my list 😄
  18. Thanks in advance for what I know will be an enjoyable podcast! Just like with the Swans game in Round 3, it felt like Goodwin showed the ability to adapt to our opponents, rather than just 'play our way'. This appeared to be a weakness that other teams exploited last year, but one that we seem to be rectifying - do you agree? P.S. One stat that shows how dominant we've been for the past 2.5 years: After beating the Pies, the longest losing streak the Dees have is with Brisbane at 2 games, with the opportunity to rectify that in a months' time. All other current losing streaks are 1 (Essendon, Fremantle, Geelong, Port). Our best winning streaks are Gold Coast (11), Carlton (8), and Hawthorn (6.5 if we count the draw from 2021 as half).

Essendon do get the privilege of playing there this year - will be interesting to hear if there's any murmurings in the media about the ground capacity it in the lead up to that game.
  20. Stu replied to Demonland's post in a topic in Melbourne Demons
Is it just me or has Essendon been dropping the ball in tackles regularly all night and no HTB, but they’ve been given about 6 or 7 similar decisions when Carlton drop it?
  21. The QB games were always ones where the form guide meant nothing. We went in favourites the last two years and lost, so maybe we go in underdogs and win. I really hope so. I can’t stand losing to them!
  22. Funnily enough, I can see Richmond getting the “first game with a new coach” win over Port, and Adelaide are a chance against the Lions. I can’t see how Collingwood lose, but boy if they did
.
  23. From what I remember, because we didn’t resign JJ on a full contract one year, and then picked him up in the rookie draft he is an unrestricted free agent. If he leaves we will most likely get no compensation.

I watch how aggressively they dive into each contest and I can foresee a few injuries coming along. The last quarter comebacks must also be taxing.
