  1. I agree completely, but the above is not what I get angry at - I will be angry if we allow him in front of the media before his first game, or if we have an extended '[censored]' piece on the website before his first game, or if we build up his first game for any reason. I think Jackson is smarter than that and I know Roos will protect him. Hogan is not the answer to our prayers. He is a good footy player who can help us win footy games in the future. Using 18 year olds as marketing tools is in the rear-view I hope.
  2. I am vexed about how to trade 1 and 3 or 2 and 3 or just 2 if that is what we get. Do you hold out for a star for that Pick 2 OR do you trade down grabbing young fringe stars-to-hopefully-be on the way. Or do you simply spend Pick 18, and possibly 19 (if Sylvia goes), on those players and keep that Pick 2 for that blue-chip young talent. Frankly, trading out of the top 5 seems pretty risky to me, because you are reducing your chance to get a star talent unless, of course, a star is who you traded for...
  3. What Roos said was that he and Peter would identify 2 or 3 "Assistants that want to head coaches" over the next few weeks (and Roos spoke about the fact that some Assistant Coaches don't want to be a head coach) and hire a "Senior Assistant for 2014 that will then be Head Coach in the future." He spoke about certainty for the players about their senior coach for the next 5 to 7 years and that invovles a Senior Assistant-Head Coach in waiting. We are going to have an assistant hired to be the next coach in the next few weeks. I agree that there is a real possibility that Roos will stick around past the 3 years but I don't know if CEO is in his sights. I guess that is where the speculation will lie for the next three years.
  4. Why do we have to bring them back? Is there a pool of players that we have to recruit - the ones that already played for us? Or do we feel guilty for having a coach that told them things they didn't want to hear? What do you think Roos would say to Beamer if he were still here? 'You are a frontrunning finger pointer who needs to work on your defensive intent.' Neeld came in too hot and too heavy but he knows footy. He just had the emotional intelligence of a mortician. Oh, and I will take Thompson back for a couple of years. But he left under Daniher.
  5. I think has the experience and the confidence to groom anyone, coaching experience or not.
  6. Prepare yourself - the next few weeks will tell you who is being groomed to take over.
  7. Well, I got what I wanted. It's funny how things happen - the reality in which I wrote this did not have our current coach as a probability. It's good to be so wrong.
  8. I think the 'formula' he is referring to involves his own dislike for the MFC.
  9. Membership site up and running tomorrow according to MFC twitter. The hotline was also working last week. People were signing up in droves apparently.
  10. Roos may stick around the club after the 3 years in another capacity. Does that make more whelmed?
  11. I take Roos at face value - in 2 years of 3 years time, he will handover the head coaching position to someone else. Now, I console myself with this fact in the knowledge that 36 months is enough time to get this place right - it is, and with the possibility Roos will play a 'Craig' type role after those 3 years or some other role at the club. Guys, get your head around it - within weeks we will know who our next coach will be and they will take over in 2016 or 2017.
  12. With the talk of the successor, it shouldn't be lost on people that Melbourne can offer the next chapter for Roos if he wishes to move into a club leadership position. In the The Age there is an article that touches on what that role might be. It would be fantastic to keep Roos around, perhaps in a similar capacity to what Craig has been doing. I am not sure how the paid football director on the board would go, break new ground there too perhaps.
  13. I'm not about to give it. Needless to say, he has split from his wife because of it (that's public news) and might want to get out of SA.
  14. Don't blame us, Roos and Jackson our currently looking to appoint a 'future coach' in the coming weeks, we are just discussing who that might be. If you wish to argue it isn't a great idea to appoint a 'future coach' this far out, you are more than welcome to.
  15. Assistant coaches are the enigma of the AFL. You do not know who is going to make a good coach, or even, from the outside, whether they are doing a decent job. Allowing Roos to groom the person they see as a smart, suitable operator just becomes smarter by the day. I know that there is a level of bias to accept the reality set out for my team but it was never like we were going to have Roos for a decade, but if we can have Roos and his protege for more than a decade then that would be fantastic.
  16. Yeah, it should look like a cartoon that might be seen on a box of cereal. The emblem, the away strip...can we just worry about winning games of footy?
  17. BarnDee mentioned we should have a thread. It will happen. It's an rpfc guarantee.
  18. Problem is the difference between 3 and 8 might not be worth it for WCE. And Sloane is going to be hard to trade if you are Adelaide, especially if you are not getting a top3 pick back...
  19. Why don't you just take enquiries in the best possible way? There is no need to be passive aggressive, with what has happened these last couple days, I hardly think getting Ling as an assistant is out of the realms of possibility... I simply wanted to know the context and the source of the info. And, no, I am not convinced that Ling has signed already based on him having an unattributed interview tomorrow with the club. That doesn't make sense.
  20. How many times have Landers been convinced, just convinced, that the AFL wants us to fold, merge, relocate, or any other awful thing... The AFL don't want us to struggle, they don't want to move us, they just want to only have to worry about GC and GWS and they would be happy.
  21. And your source of this fact?
  22. Some don't like it because they don't think it will be enough time, and that making the decision on the next coach 2 or 3 years away could blow up in our face. I completely understand that point of view, but I agree that the effects of allowing Roos to set us straight will be felt for, hopefully, decades after he has left. In that regard, 2 years or 5 years - it is largely irrelevant, and having your next coach learning under Roos gives you stability and a future coach with an excellent pedigree.
  23. Yeah, I said those with a future. Sorry to be blunt.
