  1. I know what you mean, I just see less MFC in that Red with the M one, or the 'Cartoon Demon in the middle' one, than I do in the White Imitation (yoke on yoke thingy) we have now.
  2. We were bottom 2 in both. And yes, getting a contested ball is important. It is as important because the both require each other to be 'efficient' - a team needs both. This isn't what I am saying is it? My 'equally important' team will be balanced and hardly have all outside players as you intimate here. My point about Magner is similar to your (earlier) point about Bowden. A good player will be able to do both. I rode past this point as I have great trouble with this defensive mindset with regard to players spread and run - which is essentially what most UPs will spring from. To run off your man and be bold and trust your teammates to get you the footy is what you want to see, and do see, in good teams. I am not about to mark down the success because they did leave their opponent. Backward hypothesis? I was just following your Bowden mention with my own interpolation. Objective? I am not an Uncontested Possession... Evidence and logic is what we all see in our own arguments. I don't know what to tell you - their importance or 'value' relies on each other. Just because one comes before the other doesn't inherently make it more important. How did I go this time?
  3. An efficient contested possession leads to an uncontested possession. To win games of footy you are going to have to have efficient uncontested possessions most of the time. I have my view - to win games of footy you have to do both well. Having some existential question of whether one is more important than the other at an atomic level is not interesting. We have to do both well to win games.
  4. It's the 'red and the blue' - I don't like the all red thing we had a few years ago - it's not our jumper. If it's all red, it may as well be white.
  5. I like his boldness. But turnovers will lose you your spot (if there are ready replacements) and he needs to get better. I think Grimes and Toumpas may be moved back and that will make it difficult because I like Clisby more than Terlich. We will see.
  6. You have told us that you relayed to Dawes what people 'think of him' on here. Why don't you also tell him that some on here think he should be captain? And all the players have 'the supporters in their corner' - you wear that guernsey (even the white one) we will support you. You can relay that to the players aswell if you want to...
  7. I think you need to calm down. They are both important - one without the other is bad football - that was my 'stupid' point about Magner and his ilk. It is why McKenzie frustrates so many. Let's take an example: Nathan Jones is in a contest and has just won the ball, he is about to have his 'contested possession,' the good team has a player in space about to maximise that with an Uncontested Possession, the bad team has no-one in space and the ball is turned over or is a ball-up. They are both important but rely on each other to be effective.
  8. You need both. James Magner is an excellent contested possession winner in the AFL - Top 100 last season for ave CPs. But if you cannot advance the footy properly with players running into space it doesn't matter who won the football - you are going to lose it. If CPs were more important we could stack our team with Magner's but we can't - you need a balance and that is what good teams have (and great players).
  9. Just to get back on this argument that is in a thread not related to this - UPs and CPs are equally important. And yes, at a fundamental level - it is best to be proficient at getting the ball out of contested situations, the modern game is driven by players running to space and running to receive the footy. Wholeheartedly agree. Be bold and trusting of your ability and of your teammates and you really can ride on your own confidence.
  10. At first glance - lol. At second glance - judos to 1870s Adelaidians (I don't know what they are called) for being so vivid and experimental.
  11. Wouldn't be the first Demon to turn to medication.
  12. I think it was personal - those that 'preached' about those at the club have a 'past vision' that almost brought about the end of the club. How is that not personal? The AFL stepped in months AFTER I and many other of the preachers thought Schwab should not have got his 2012 extension, the AFL stepped in AFTER I and many others of the preachers made it clear McLardy should move on, and when the AFL stepped in I, and many of my preacher cabal friends on here, welcomed the arrival of Head Office into our affairs.
  13. Geelong had first dibs on red and blue though... 1862 Geelong: Should we really be wearing it?
  14. It's not a colour. And it is the colour of the founding of this game and your club.
  15. And imagine what the founders of the club would think, with us playing in that white thing...
  16. Well, I hate to step on that wish but...
  17. Fair enough. I just tire of potential - I want to see some of that talk come to fruition.
  18. You're red and blue, from 1858 to today.
  19. There is inherent risk with the picks we gave up this year too... Battlers they may be but they worked as intended - one is a bonafide leader of men (with trouble staying upright, adding to our collection...), two finished very high in our B+F and the other was a revelation of our dispirited backline. What we did this year excites me more too, young midfielders that may become something. I just want us to develop them, I don't want to waste time on low-end talent, as blunt and rude as that sounds.
  20. That model also brought Dawes, Jones, Clisby and Terlich. And Nasher, yeah it does look better on reflection, however Toumpas, Viney, Salem, JKH, Trengove, Watts, Fitzpatrick, Hogan, Barry, Kent, Tyson, Evans, Michie, Gawn, Riley, and Howe is a lot of young talent that I hold out great hope for but require a great deal of development if we want a few to be what I think they can be.
  21. Quite amazing. 5 games in two years too. He's 27.
  22. I put $10 bucks on last week because I am an idiot.
