Jack Trengove re-injures his navicular (2014) - trade deal off
rpfc replied to Wiseblood's topic in Melbourne Demons
What if Lever becomes a star of the game? What will you say then. History will judge this trade if it eventuates, we won't know the sum of it and all we will be doing is what we are doing in this thread - baring our neurosis concerning an aspect of the game we get all too often wrong. -
Jack Trengove re-injures his navicular (2014) - trade deal off

They better get this right. That's the guts of my opinion. I want to get better and we are rumoured to be moving on two blokes with feet issues on good coin who played a total of 2 games last season. I understand the desire to get some output for your outlay. But clubs are funny things, they drive and thrive on emotion and just because you were apart of the failed times, doesn't mean you can't be apart of the success. This smacks me as a cog in a larger plan or they really like this Lever kid who might be there around ND12. They better get this right. -

Away from the computer to receive my jumper for winning the flag with my team up here and come back to this? Jeez... Makes me feel ill. Trengove running around with Dusty with Jake King watching on? I just threw up in my mouth. This better work. I know good culture - this hurts, they better Get.This. Right. -
WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BILLY STRETCH
rpfc replied to e25's topic in Melbourne Demons
Effectively, he is at the club now. Surely 2015 and 2016 should be him developing a body to deal with the rigours of modern footy. I really hope we don't see much of him in the next two years. -
WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - JEFF GARLETT
rpfc replied to Demon3's topic in Melbourne Demons
It wasn't even Moneyball when Neeld did what he did. Neeld brought in players from other clubs aho, as you say, were of a different quality than the ones that Roos has been able to get. Dawes, Clark, Pedersen, Byrnes, Gillies and Rodan. Tyson, Vince, Cross, Garlett, Michie, Riley, and Lumumba. It is not Moneyball, it is just recruitment. One being far better at it than the other. Frankly, as someone who knows baseball, those that relate Moneyball to what happens in the AFL are kidding themselves. -
Time waits for no man (or woman), ManDee. But I understand the desire...

I hear you, ManDee. It goes so quickly...

Brendan McCartney no longer coach of the Doggies

If only one could, ManDee. If only one could... -
Frost might be headed for the PSD if he is up for it.

Maybe the answer is in the line before the question... -
If I were the Bulldogs - I wouldn't do that deal. Even if the Saints offered 1 for 4 and 7 I wouldn't do it as a Bulldog List Manager.
-
I am intrigued by this Lever kid as a midfielder. Could be another Bontempelli... If Saints go tall, it will be moot I would say but I am keen to get the two best mids in...

As a Knight of Demonland, I have bequeathed you as contrary and will remain as such until another Knight relieves you, or Nasher tells me to quit it... -

The clubs don't research players through other clubs websites... Really can't believe I had to write that. -

Take that bloke at 83 or in the Rookie Draft then... No-one else is picking up this fairy tale of yours. You just like being contrary. Garlett is a proven AFL performer. And has 5+ years left if Roos can screw his head on properly. -
I think we should simply move this a year down the track now - we have an opportunity to set up our long term future in this draft and we have made it known to Dangerfield that if he wishes to comes to Melbourne there is a $5m contract waiting for him. If Adelaide want to play this game of blind chicken they can, and if Dangerfield wishes to put up with the ferals next year he can - we will get our plan together. Perhaps he will already agree with a club now, to leave to in 12 months time. Perhaps he will leave it as late as, seemingly, Frawley did. But he knows right now that the MFC have the capacity and desire for him and he knows who his coach would be for his career should he decide to come.
-
With one list spot available right now and Lumumba and Frost to come in - I would say that we will only have three live picks in the draft (ND2, ND3, and ND23) and that 4 players would have to be moved/delisted; Clark, Strauss, Blease and Tapscott.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - SAM FROST

Yes, but some clubs will be done after a few rounds and some will be taking rookies in the 90s. -
What a statement from the President of the Bulldogs, he said that Griffin told the club of his concerns and they sat him down with the coach and McCartney admitted to his faults, and they asked Ryan whether he could continue under him - with McCartney in the room! What was he going to say - Game of Throne him right there and then? Ask those questions in private. Such idiocy.

AFL involved in Port Adelaide/Essendon Draft Rort
rpfc replied to deanox's topic in Melbourne Demons
I think the majority on here would agree with you. The reasonable few who have history on the site mitigated that noise. Ash was around when we were good (well, better) - he isn't a troll. And internet murdering hasn't been invented yet... -

You think we paid overs for Garlett? -
I found it relevant. But I can only speak for myself.

AFL involved in Port Adelaide/Essendon Draft Rort
rpfc replied to deanox's topic in Melbourne Demons
If the Bombers kept their receipts, and logs of who got what, maybe they wouldn't be in this trouble, or maybe they still would be... The fact is the club doesn't seem to know, which means that ASADA cannot let them off - if all you have to do is lose the logbook and the receipts to escape punishment - it would be a ridiculous system. Taking your medicine is done when the other avenue is worse - your club has been driving down the other avenue for a couple of years now. There may be no manual for this, but there is common sense, and it has been in short supply down at the Airport of late - plenty of arrogance, hubris, and delay but little care for their players, their fans and the game itself. Melbourne rolled over like a puppy dog during its recent episode of 'tanking' shenanigans. There was a time when I was envious of how Essendon fought back against the tide of AFL fisthammery but I knew why we did roll - for our own good. Sometimes you have got to suck it up, admit what you didn't do and move on. -
Ease up. It was a team trading their best player and it set them up for a dynasty. It's relevance is subjective.

The other dent being Tapscott has no worth whatsoever.
