I was 'correcting' it for the benefit of others who would have thought you weren't talking out your o-ring. You gave a post that attempted to play right into the battered psyche of suffering MFC fans for a laugh. I got it. But I also found it funny that only two of those players were available post ND23 and one of them was taken with the very pick we now have. Maybe you should 'lighten up?'
-
ND2, ND3, and ND40 are all the space we have now. If PSD2, a DFA, or ND53 have a talent that we want - we will have to delist a contracted player. Clubs are reticent to do this but I think it is a necessity now to at least remove one more player from the Primary List.
-
Franklin was ND5, Fyfe was ND20, and Priddis made it to the rookie draft there were so many overlooking him. The difference, to answer the question, will be the players we will no longer be able to get, but the club with this one deal was able to secure Frost, secure another new player for the list at ND40 and position themselves to go after someone in the PSD or use ND53. 3 for the price of 1. Oh, and the irony of your handwringing, Lamashtu? Luke Parker - Selected with the 40th pick in the National Draft in 2010...
-
I was talking about 'you' in the abstract. And there was also about 4 lines between my response to your post and my general response to the thread. And I can really see you writing for the Herald Sun...

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - SAM FROST
rpfc replied to Gipsy Danger's topic in Melbourne Demons
Perhaps Frost releases Dunn to do that more? -
If Sydney delist Membrey he can go to the club of his choice - St Kilda. If they do not delist Membrey, he can leave through the PSD as an out of contract player - to St Kilda. He is going to St Kilda.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - SAM FROST

4 key defenders vs 1 key forward for Rd 1? So Dawes is out for a week so we should recruit a tall forward? Can we put him on a week long contract? And this helps Dunn and Garland. They will be able to play on smaller opponents. Hogan, Pedersen, and/or Gawn/Jamar should be able to make do for a week. -

Yes, it is odd to see someone play for three straight months and then just one more game at the death of the season... It might have been around the time we got agreement and around the time the club couldn't give a fig about Frawley any more. -
What's your critique? What will it be next week? We didn't overpay with ND2 and ND3 - that is the way I look at it. We could have got a deal done for those picks, absolutely. But the club didn't see value in those deals and so we didn't do it. That's a good thing! The other clubs probably thought we would be clamouring over ourselves to give them ND3 for their 7th best mid and a pat on the head. Well, how about we get two of the best three mids in this draft class? How about we do that. You want to critique a trade period - come back here in 3-5 years time. We traded McLean for ND11 and thought we won. We then traded Gysberts for Pederen and thought we lost. You look like a sheep walking on its hind legs trying to definitely evaluate a trade period a day after its done.
-
What about if we didn't want Membrey? And wanted Frost - the bloke we have been whispering to for months apparently. Do you really think clubs priorities turn on a dime like that? "Oh, we want Frost, but the Saints might take him?" "Derr, ok, we will just take Membrey then."
-
Pick the 2nd and 3rd best mids in the draft class. Do that and you will have two very good players. I completely understand the desire not to 'reach' for players - but we have the 2nd and 3rd picks in the draft - we should be able to secure 2 fantastic mids. They should back themselves to know who they are. If it is Laverde or Lever plucked 'early' at ND3 then so be it.
-
They will be soon delisted. Maybe Tutt won't. This is what I think; Evans is gone, he will be paid out and replaced on the list by ND40. McKenzie or Trengove will be on thin ice and the FD will have to see whether PSD2 or ND53 is an improvement on one of those two for 2015. Between now and the ND, we will try to lure an OOC player into the PSD where we have the first live pick with St Kilda taking Membrey. Should we be able to lure someone - we will delist McKenzie or Trengove. If we cannot lure anyone into the PSD, we will use ND53. If McKenzie and Trengove are delisted then we are using ND53 and PSD2.

Jesus those are some good highlights... McDonald and Frost - we are set for a decade back there. No wonder they wanted to get the trade done. I had no idea he was that impressive. -
That window on a high rise that a few of you are jumping out of was one we all created for ourselves. They had publicly targeted certain players and they got them all, save for Dangerfield, for him we wait with a cheque for next year. We have improved our starting 22 and we have the opportunity to find some star midfield talent in the draft. They have to get November right. Just have to.
-
Is Mitch Brown OOC? Lyons from the Crows? I want us to explore this. There is value in the Frost deal if we use 40 AND 53 AND PSD2 In fact, we would be winners if we can get 4 players - 1 or 2 in the best 22 - for ND23.
-
We have 0 list spots open until we delist the three still OOC and possibly Evans, McKenzie, and/or Trengove.
-
We will need to delist a contracted player to use ND53, and another if we are to use PSD2. I hope we do delist one player at least, otherwise we would have not got full value in that Frost trade. Evans, McKenzie, and Trengove would be the most vulnerable.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - SAM FROST
rpfc replied to Gipsy Danger's topic in Melbourne Demons
This deal is for those that want the list changed quicker than otherwise possible. ND23 and Frost through the PSD is what we were looking at with our last two list spots. Now, they have Frost, ND40, ND53, and, potentially, PSD2 as the last four list spots. So for those that want to see more change, this deal potentially created 2 more changes. Oh, and we got our targeted replacement for Frawley locked away. -
WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - HERITIER LUMUMBA
rpfc replied to Moonshadow's topic in Melbourne Demons
The cap has increased by $2m in 4/5 years. That sort of money is getting less and less ridiculous. -
I don't like the snark against Dawes, but we do not have a good list. It is getting better, absolutely. And 2 and 3 will help in November if/when we pick well. But we still have so many question marks and periphery players that require a strong midfield - we will struggle. You live and die by your midfield and ours is still challenged.
-
So don't look at the list properly and your argument is a good one? Huh? Dawes. Well done Neeld. A self confessed 'role playing CHF.' Clark was and excellent hijack but perhaps the fact that we managed to turn his head was an insight into his eventual defection. There is no comparison to Vince, Tyson, Cross, and Lumumba. Despite the nonsense about HL - he is immediately our best attacking defender.
-
Excuse me? Did Vince, Tyson and Cross appear in spite of Roos? Pedersen, Byrnes, Clark, Dawes, et al. I am disappointed but if you were to take the two lists of players attracted by Neeld and then Roos - there would be little argument as to who recruited the better players.
-
Hogan will replace Frawley rather handily. 2 and 3 will give immediate depth to the midfield, and as link players - Garlett and Lumumba will provide help to the midfield. I agree that the midfield is incredibly important and the pointy end of the draft is where you find the midfield stars of the future. We shouldn't give those up just to placate impatient supporters. We have to get those decisions right. And, evidently, what clubs are offering us for those picks is below what those clubs will see in the top 3 pick they are trying to steal.

Jack Trengove re-injures his navicular (2014) - trade deal off
rpfc replied to Wiseblood's topic in Melbourne Demons
Genuine care for players. That is what I keep hearing about Roos and the club under him. I know this from experience - you can tell blokes some terrible home truths if they know you come from a place of total respect and dignity. Jamar recently discussed that Roos treats the players like men. Culture at a footy club is driven by the senior players, but how the club treats its players defines how they drive that culture. Trengove's situation is not a simple list management decision. And if the club wishes to go to the Rookie Draft to find his replacement for 2015, then that is fine. The kind of talent we are talking about is unlikely to warrant risking the gains made with the playing group and their belief in the club and themselves.
