When I hear 'we lack depth' I read it as saying 'we lack competition for places' but that is not a problem - we have had competition for places, but those competing for those places are just not very good. Our first problem is our midfield doesn't have bonafide stars (yet), and our second problem is our midfield doesn't run deeper than 6. That's our real problem with 'depth' - we move Jones, Vince, and Viney out for a rest or they are out of form and we feel it - this is being rectified but it really won't be rectified by getting more fringe players to provide 'competition.' These talents will still be beaten by deeper midfields.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB – JAKE MELKSHAM
rpfc replied to Theo's topic in Melbourne Demons
Way too much of Dwayne Russell in those highlights. Say what you will about Melksham - the club identified him a long way out for a particular role and here he is and, again, if he can release Salem into the middle more then that is gold weight. -
No. Stop seeing things without its context. If Hawthorn are giving him two seconds of thought it is because he is a DFA and available for nothing. Does anyone really think we would get anything decent for him? 'Oh, no, rpfc, but he could be a part of something bigger!' At some point, the argument above becomes redundant - if a player of little worth is involved in something bigger then they are what we call 'steak knives' and those are ubiquitous - they're everywhere - so to answer the question of the thread: No.
-
So that complicated trade chip is still with one of the players in that complicated trade... Look, either you are being sold something dodgy, or you're selling it.
-
I wouldn't give up ND5 for Carlisle. If he ends up at Hawthorn it is good for the brokering of trades for clubs, bad for the equalisation of the league, and good for the Saints long term rebuild. No black and white here - really grey and each party has to deal with what is in front of them. Let's see what St Kilda come up with, but I hope for their sake the don't cough up too much.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB – JAKE MELKSHAM

To early to say but it would at least allow the conversation around moving Salem into the middle to gather legs... -
We wanted him to go! FCS, you look ridiculous telling him that he is all these things - we were using him to get some stud at ND3 and now we are left holding our you-know-what. Let's hope we can salvage something from this. It's not like Howe is much of a loss. Hell, Watts was ahead of him forward and a 2nd year player ahead of him in the backline.
-
You do understand how [censored] ing stupid that reads, yeah?
-
The system is the constraint here - Howe would have had to agree to go up to the GC. And this whole "they shouldn't nominate a club!1!" rigmarole is a bit rich coming from a bunch of people that would take a similar desire from a player like Prestia to come to Melbourne next year as leverage to screw over GC... We have got to deal with what is in front of us and make the most of it. And I believe Howe can go through the National Draft, and not the PSD, where he is possibly more likely to make it through to Collingwood.

Nothing? He's a telephone pole - him standing up is showing something as a ruckman.

Wow. Lifeline 13 11 14. Killing yourself because Jake Melksham plays for your team won't get you anywhere in life. -
WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - TOMAS BUGG

Sorry, no news - just a note: Bugg is OOC and can go through the drafts if he so chooses, he can nominate to go through the PSD alone if he wishes. -
WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BEN KENNEDY
rpfc replied to MadAsHell's topic in Melbourne Demons
Sorry to update with no actual news - just a reminder - Kennedy is contracted for 2016. So there is no option to go through the drafts to get him. -
Hope he chooses the Saints and they get a deal done. Better for the comp.

So we have identified him as a HBF - Salem into the middle from 2016? Probably not, but that is where he will end up. -
There is a minute and a half I won't get back...

It always a packet of chips...

Would it be to improve? And try to position ourselves for a flag at some point? Geelong have just traded what could be a top 8 pick for a bloke that might be a good forward or an adequate back. They have trade a top 10 pick and the next pick for an immense talent in Danger Mouse because he wants to go there - strategy be damned (or be irrelevant), and they have convinced the crocked brother of their skipper to spend his last 5 years of his career playing with him. They need a ruck to release Blicavs and they don't have it, they have got a player in who might fill a huge hole down back for a potentially huge price... I think you are confusing action with strategy.
-
I heard the NM boys also thought that too. Some people are wired differently.
-
I am in a conundrum - I want Geelong to fail badly but I don't want Carlton to get a good pick... Let's hope Geelong are middle of the road next year, then terrible after that. It's the best of scenarios!

A star player leaving a club near the bottom hurts more than a star player laving a club near the top. That is just a simple fact. The compensation tied to ladder position was a godsend to a club that needed some help - namely - us. Fairer when it is equal? Whatever.
