If last night's loss was such a season ender and concession of flag favouritism to the Pies, why don't we poach their dominant key forward?

Oh wait... They didn't have one.

But they have a forward set up that works 100% better than ours

IMO Checkers and McStay are much better for them than JVR and Tmac are for us

My take on the Maynard bump is that it was similar to the Patrick Cripps bump on Ah Chee last year, where Cripps left the ground initially to contest in a football action but then bumped him in the head. I don't think it was clear cut that Maynard should be suspended but the AFL will surely want to see him suspended and I think the tribunal will say it was accidental and let him off (particularly because it is Collingwood and finals).

Cripps was found guilty but let off on a procedural technicality (orchestrated by the AFL). If it is like that, Maynard should get 3 or 4.

    But he won't.

  3. For the love of god, can Kossie please stop flying for speckies over the pack and crumb the contest instead!!!

If I ever hear again "one day he'll take one of those" I'll spew up

It's not school footy or an exhibition game, he's so wasting his immense talent

Time to shelf the trying to get pick 1 etc, get gold coasts 4, and throw 4&5 at a key forward. McKay from Carlton, Allen from West coast are two of target. West coast would be happy with 1,4&5 going into the draft.

And unless we change our game plan or truly believe that Petty will be the main focal point and his body won’t fail him then we need to head hunt a genuine forward.

Whilst I don't disagree that we need a big focal point in the forward line, I reckon its more our forward structure and the delivery i50 that is the issue. Sure, there's been injuries, Petty, Fritter and Melk, and major form slumps, such as Kossie, but we cannot get a forward system that looks like working at all. We've been killing opposition teams for i50s for 4 or 5 years. BBB worked for a year, but his knees are now shot.

With nearly double Collingwood's i50, we should've won by 10 goals. It's not that their backs were overly masterful, more like we had nothing to offer when it came in, it was easy to defend

IMO this has been Goodwin's major failure during his tenure, the responsibility rests with him. We've had 5 years where blind Freddy can see our forward set up isnt working. Rinse and repeat every week

  5. Have no problem with Maynard jumping to smother the kick, but to clearly turn and drop the shoulder into Brayshaw's head with eyes on the player is a dog act.

He'll get offered 3, but Gil will drop it to 1 on appeal so he can play in the GF. Appease the big clubs. Nothing is surer, it's the AFL way

The look on Goody’s face when Smith and Langdon took advantage like it was a Benny Hill skit rather than let Fritta have a set shot was priceless.

He’d have missed it I guess and maybe put it out on the full, so in some senses maybe we ended up a point better off than if they didn’t.

I heard the umpire's whistle blow twice, which means bring it back

There's too many umpires not knowing what the others are doing

Give me a f..kin spell you Goodwin haters.  They lost it with to many missed opportunities.  The coach can’t kick it for them FFS

No, but he could've insisted we trade for a young, quality key forward over the last 5 years.

BBB was always going to be a one year wonder

    No worries. Point taken

Imo I just simply dont see him as a fit for us during the finals series and think it would be a backward step in terms completely putting our forward mix out of shape with his inclusion.

Grundy won't play on Thursday, not unless Max is injured before then. The weather forcast doesnt look good, no way we are playing both Max and Brody

Not sure Tmac or Schache are good options either

Well the MCC is a different kettle of fish, they own the place so the AFL is just a guest.

I guess it is just a niche thing here in Australia. I don't recall any similar arrangements for seat allocation in other professional sports (e.g. NFL, La Liga, EPL).

Actually, the Vic Govt owns the MCG, through the MCG trust. The MCC has the rights to manage it under contract, I believe

In the recent interview, Max referred to 'Melksham's return' so a good chance he gets a new contract. 🙂.   He could be back at next year's mid season bye, in about 10 months.

Max is very much the optimist. He also talked about the Gawndy experiment continuing,  whereas Goody acknowledged that it hasn't worked and that it may be over

    Let's hope he's right

Risk v reward. North aren’t pulling out all the stops to keep him. I’m not sure he has grown up yet. Talented without a doubt. Very questionable temperament.

    exercise extreme caution

We have an A grade culture and support system. We should be able to straighten him out, that is, if he's keen on us

    Pick 4 is 2034 points

    If we traded:

19 (after winning the premiership and allowing for Mackay free agent comp)

25 (rd 2 from freo assuming only one FA before then)

    38 (2nd round pick assuming 2 FAs)

we'd be 72 points short, which a future 3rd round might cover.

Of course we'd then have to rely on whatever trade value we got from any players traded plus free agents to get our 3rd pick or our 2nd and 3rd pick if we traded for #1

4 and 5 OR 5 and 6 are worth more than #1 so we'd get some change back from WCE if we went that way. I'd think they might take it.

Of course if we bomb out in the finals our hand is stronger but let's not think of that now.

We won't get 38 for 2 x FAs. Who are our FAs that are worth more that pick 50? JJ, barely.
