So it looks as though the actual roles and the names of those roles are a mystery to us who are probably the most analytical and researched fans of all. Surely this is the only sport in the world like this. Dr. Drake helped a touch but no names and it was pretty generalised. It is odd.

Great response. I agree with that entirely.

It dawned on me in another thread that even though I played and coached for over 30 years I actually really dont fully understand some of the fundamentals of today's game. Basically I have no idea what are the specifics and names of the current day roles / positions on the ground. Obviously Ruck, def wingman etc makes sense but what are the actual names of other roles? I heard power forwards and speed forward used a few weeks back. I am sure down the ground vision would explain it. Does anyone know where we can get access to that? If anyone can enlighten me on the roles and names please do.

Bailey Laurie for Viney
-
since his first quarter he has been our best player at the club.
-
We WILL win it this year. I have never ever thought this is in my 52 years watching. But this is THE year. Our Best is the Best and it is in our hands.
-
Some of you guys are nasty towards Jack. I dont understand the reasons people hassle him. Every good team needs a nasty little Jack. And ours is as tough as they come. Get off his case.
-
Yeah not that inspiring really. An in form Jordon is better. Lockhart is the one. I rated him last year. There were a couple of bone headed moments but he is quick and hard. Skills ok.

I agree that Harmes struggled and ideally wouldn't be in our best 22 atm. Who comes in for him though? I am not sure our depth runs deep and we have blessed for the first time ever by the injury gods. Is Laurie ready? It was great to have Bowey's clean disposal albeit under sfa pressure and another clean mid would be gold atm. The thing is though that Harmes at his best is in the best 22. I suppose it is up to him to sort it out quickly or risk losing the chance of a lifetime. Jack is the same to a certain degree but Jacks best is top shelf. I hope he overcomes whatever is holding him back soon. Jacks best position might be the defensive forward. I don't know, in fact I know Jack Sht when it comes to roles within the team. I should no more but the wide angle tv viewing doesn't help at all. In this time of Civid flexibility is it too much to ask for an option of down the ground viewing. I mean what is this? 1970's East Germany? It is what the coaches and players use so I suppose its more than useful. Additionally what is obvious is that Angus has found his niche again and his defensive work early was awesome. And Clayton is the best of our best in last 50 years. From the 1st minute of his first game until the last minute of today he has been phenomenal. Our best work is when we are manic with the 1%s and our best work will be too much for anyone else. We just have to bring it every game and kick straight . Five posters didnt help. All in all a good day and the Chief Healh Officers can go suck on a big fat juicy one while assessing their facebook likes!

GAMEDAY: Rd 20 v Gold Coast Part 2
Wizard of Koz replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Is Clayton our best player since colour tv? I loved Robbie and number 2 was on the duffle coat and I was prob too young to be able to compare properly but I think Clayton's output is better and more consistent. -

Probably not. But if that is your main take away from my post, well thats quite ironic and an example of the diminishing priorities and care factor I am talking about. -

Chief Health Officers and the puppeteers pulling their vote swinging levers have no idea of the real world. You cam lump the top brass in VicPol. They have not lost 1 cent of pay and their power trips are fueling their misplaced ego and burning our once great country to its core, 6 million people or more in lockdown yesterday in NSW and these morons deny the burbs the opportunity to forget the reality of the most miserable time our country has ever known for a couple of hours to stamp a Power Play of No Professional Sport immediately. Its not like the players had been to school or that you could not put strict protocols in place. Surely a no crowd situation would have been enough. What a bunch of entitled short sighted dogs. I also put Morrison in the entitled no idea bracket. Not so much for an ego boosting power trip like the other clowns. But he should not have let the media and whatever loose cannons indoctrinate the community with Anti Vax blood clot rubbish. Just remember every single one of these puppeteers has not been impacted in any way shape or form like the rest of us. Our country, my friends, is nothing but a sad memory of what were once the golden years. I just wish we knew it was in fact the golden years were upon us. Now we are just a sad disenfranchised bunch where the lowest common denominator is the majority and lazily accept the constant reaming and are just happy to play on facebook and watch The Bachelor while the uneducated political pigs ruin the joint. -
Norm Smith curse now over. Hawthorn have taken the torch off us by burning and sacking the best coach of an era
-
If we kicked straight they wouldn't be in the gun. The problem is 100% accuracy in front of goal. The outcome for bad kicking is like no other error. Basically you lose. We are worst in the league atm for accuracy. Just gotta get at least to league middle standard level as a minimum. It will cost us a flag, guaranteed, if we dont sort it out.
-
Lockhart has some strengths that we are lacking. Speed and defensive pressure when ball hits the ground in the backline. He is prone to a few mulligans each game though.

Congratulations to Georgia. -
What are you talking about. Jack needs to do his job, not play a blinder. His job is more than enough. I am over the Jack slaps. He is a gun, tough as nails, and is as much a Demon as you and I. Treat him with respect.

Fair enough. I hope he does 2 career ending knees in the same incident then. This is Hawthorn. -

My ex father in law was a Hawk fan and he was the nastiest football bully [censored] you could ever imagine. Relentless recall of every dagger that meant way more to me than him. For all of us born in the late 60s or early 70's make no mistake Hawthorn are the enemy. I hope we smash them by heaps and O'meara does a career ending knee. At a minimum! -

I have found comfort in the "fisted forever" era with this guy. A must read for me every week for a decade and a half and genuinely the funniest stuff I read. Adam : Thanks!! This guy is a LEGEND.
