He can't kick, he's slow, he's really soft, I hear his mum is a drug dealer, there are rumours going around that he slept with his teammate's wife.
Can't believe we wasted a 6th round draft pick on this hack. We could have recruited the next Bontempelli instead.
Good he'll fit in. The more players we get that keep Collingwood's premirship out of the news the better.

But my point was more that if North really want Reid they should show interest in Curtain and put doubt into WC that Curtain will be available at 6.I think West Coast or Reid's manager have done this with Reid, with him coming out and saying he is happy to go interstate.
It gives West Coast a stronger hand and forces North or the Dees into offering a suite of picks to make it more likely to happen.

Negative;
- Very low possession count. Under ten a game on average for 2023 and career. Not everyone has to be an accumulator but in the context of us having several low-possessions forwards and half-forwards already, it is a drawback.
I don't mind the low possesion count given his high score involvement numbers. He is damaging.
With the amount of time the ball spends in our forward line he could make a real difference.

Yeah but Mc Creerys 23 season was superior and far ahead of Spargy 23 anyday😉
Spargo produced a much game in the 23 finals than McCreery did or could. Not sure what Spargo was doing for the rest of the year but his spark was back and looks set for a good 24.

Every non MFC supporter is wondering who TF petty is
I'd prefer it stayed that way but its hard to fly under the radar when you are a premiership CHB at 21 and kick bags of goals when you go forward

If his foot holds up he will have more trade value than he does now but i hope he stays, more valuable to us than draft picks.

This. This isn't Melbourne pursuing McAdam, this is McAdam requesting a trade to Melbourne. Melbourne can just as easily say no thanks.
I'd be amazed if Melbourne hadn't come to an agreement with McAdam before he nominated us

I am firmly is the keep Petty camp but I'm guessing it comes down to how highly JT rated Thilthorpe is his draft year.

If we are making a play for the number 1 pick & Reid there are going to be alot of dissapointed people who want us to change our game plan. This would signify we are doubling down on it.
The bloke is a human battering ram that gets it forward at all costs. I haven't seen any evidence he kicks like Nick Daicos.

With Buddy gone Grundy could easily be the new poster boy for Sydney. Some good promotional deals in a two team city for the Big G.
He wont be replacing him as a forward

We have given up 14, 27 and 35 for 11
Sparrow at pick 27, Rivers at pick 32, Petty at 37 and ANB at 40
I don't know why we even bother with early picks when we do so well in 25 - 40 range

No no.
I'm glad you're not in charge.
All you've done is outline exactly what the Demonland one-eyed supporter would do.
Be too afraid to make decisions based on on fear of future outcomes.
It's ridiculous you say 'there's no guarantees you can't move up the order' with the draft hand we'd get for a trade like Petty but completely brush over the fact that there's also no guarantee he'll get his body right for a full year? Or there's no guarantee that his form will continue in an upward trajectory... Or any other list management risk?!
Does anyone notice this? Lol.
Nah. Because we love Melbourne players and Melbourne payers only and all else is riskkkkkk so shut upppp.
I'll back JT to bring in talent with the draft picks. He has the runs on the board and will continue to deliver.
A key ingredient in building a strong competive list is retaining the talent.
Looking to the future at all costs is no way to build a list. You seem like you are happy to go for the early picks but you'd trade the player we get in 5 years for more early picks.
Retaining talent is easier and more benefitial than brining in new talent.

Well Sydney don't rank him too highly as they've only offered pick 46
The question is ... do Sydney want him that badly?
And Adelaide don't rate Petty based on their offer...

@Macca you keep tying the draft pick we reciece with some kind of inverse relationship to the proportion (if any) of salary we pay.
Is this common?
I would have thought the more you value someone the more willing you are to pay their salary and offer a better pick not one going the opposite to the other.
Understand there has to be a balancing act with a range of factors just interested is this how trades work nowdays?
-
I hope Sydney pay pick 25 for Adams. There is no way we are taking less for Grundy who they need more and doesn't have re-occuring soft tissue injuries.
-
The pressure is on Sydney to get the deal done. Grand finalists 2 years ago, bombed out this year with dubious goal reviews that always go carltons way and have just bolstered their midfield stocks. They will see Grundy as an essential piece to having a crack at the premiership. The deal is nowhere near as important to us he can play at Casey unless Gawn is injured.

I don't think it would be awkward for them at all.
They'll make up a couple of lines to spin and bury it. That what a political party like the AFL does.
You can vote a political party out

In this article about Murphy nathan-murphy-could-be-forced-to-retire-concussion-history it says:
"...the AFL’s general counsel Stephen Meade is expected to make a recommendation to Murphy imminently. The concussion panel earlier this year recommended Sydney’s Patrick McCartin retire after he’s suffered nine career concussions – including eight at St Kilda".
I suspect this panel will play a role in Gus' future plans.
That will be intriguing. Will be awkward for the AFL if Brayshaw is forced to retire following that thugs AFL sanctioned footballing act

Some very good points in this thread. For mine a large part of problematic behaviour (to cover racism, alcohol & drug missuse broadly) comes down to societal norms and accesibility at the time.
Alcohol has stood the test of time and will always be prevalent in society. It's misuse causes widespread damage but given the prevalence its damage is blown out proportion a little bit.
50 years ago blaspheme was considered much more harmful than racism. Multiculuturalism came along and racism became a bigger issue. In another 50 years time there will be stuff we think is fine now that our grandchildren will think is completely unacceptable and morally wrong.
Drugs like dope & coke, although still illegal (or decriminalised), don't raise an eyebrow because they are considered socially acceptable.
Drugs like meth & juice are rife but not socially acceptable because of the carnage they are causing on the users.
In jail the population is loading up on bupe because thats the easiest thing they can get in.
Problematic behaviour is subjective, relative and evolving.
