I don't think so I think it was really, really dumb for Goodwin to say he wants Bennell to work on his defensive element of his game. Yes that might be the case when you play more games and your body is 100% but to say that was super dumb If he said that we are managing (which we are, but why not say that) then there wouldn't be any questions asked because he hasn't played in some time. Still a 70% fit Bennell is an asset and the only way to build out his strength in his body, fitness and defensive elements if it's a worry is to play him? Not play him in the 2's. He's a 1's player every day of the week. Problem = We bomb it in and have limited players who ooze class with ball in hand Solution = Play Bennell and have a focus on his defensive element as the game goes on

I actually think Smith played ok too down back and just played his role well. However, can I see him playing down back the rest of the year and into the future. No Do I think he's being wasted down there? Yes The thing is, is that we have Omac who isn't an AA defender by any stretch of the imagination but also doesn't need to be. Rarely do players get off the chain and kick bags anymore and he is an honest defender. I would 100% rather have Omac in our backline than Smith. He can take the #1 key fwd which frees up May and Lever. I like Smith for all this assets too - but you don't need those assets down back, if Smith was like a Sicily then yeah sure play him down there but his assets are being wasted when all he has to do is lock down a defender, why not get Omac to do that? Play Smith off the bench as that high half fwd? I really want to see Omac back in the side and I never thought I'd say that. Backline is far more stable with Omac, May and Lever than Smith, Lever and May. If i was Smith i'd be super frustrated. The team is crying out for goals and something to happen forward of centre and Smith is stuck in a back pocket....

May is slowly finding some form so let him do so and connect with Lever as they've played little games together The answer is Jacko/Weed and Bennell. It's that simple. Stop playing these smalls, we aren't Richmond. Even if Bennell is under done he brings something no other player does and he doesn't have to play high % of game time. Increase Gus' time on ground and reduce Bennells. It just makes 0 sense what strategies we're implementing. Like what are we trying to achieve with these smalls? We get all these i50's and bang it in to Hunt, Kozzie, Hannan, Melk and Fritta. I know Jacko is raw but just say to him "you have one job today and that's leap at everything and trying not to get outmarked" (easier said than done, but just give him 1 job). It's just confusing what we're doing with the team because we have talent. Everyone else can see it? Why can't Simon? We have tall forward.... Play them....

training v match day are two different things perhaps at training we are train with the intention to lower the eyes, hit those smalls up and have them take shots. but game day we bomb it in and game day there is pressure and kicks to the top of the square. There is nothing wrong with bringing the ball to ground then going to work - it's the out marking that kills us and that's what happens. [censored] I would take 0 goals from Tmac every day of the week if he could bring it to ground then our smalls pounce. But it doesn't happen. This stat is alarming and we simply have to play 2 talls just to compete.
