  1. I think your idea has merit, however I would suggest sharing with a minor partner like a amatuer or VFL Club. There must be Clubs struggling financially struggling financially and sitting on good ovals and parking facilities. Elsternick was one of those options but it has closed with the development of the wetlands on the adjacement golf course and further development of a second oval and facilities. To make it work you need to have something to give the council and ratepayers such as community facilities, meeting rooms, creches and the like.
  2. Oldest Club in the world, Smith and Barassi, with respect are nothing but trivia questions. If that impresses you, well good luck, but it sure doesnt impress young fans or players
  3. Yep, throw a blanket over us, Kangas, Bombers, Saints. No real point of difference anymore. The Saints have done well this year but the gap to the next level was awfully exposed last week. It is a genuine worry. I fear if we lost Petracca or Oliver to a top Club we could also lose young supporters.
  4. Happy for us to go to Tassie. never thought I would say it, but there it is. That said I have always followed the Demons, the jumper and the players, not the MCC tie brigade.
  5. I would like Smith to come to us but there is something very sad that seven years after Roos and Jackson got things going we need a player like him for both outside run and the experience he will bring to the Club.
  6. Of course not, this is an opinion piece site. However you have no answer to the fact our List Managers have paid a full or near full equivelant salary cap to players of a lesser quality than the likes of Richmond, Hawks, West Coast and others for the past 20 years. We are not in a Premiership window and have a tight money squeeze ahead.
  7. Yep, talking to your ilk. Fact. All clubs have essentially the same pool of wages to pay players. We hear our cap is very tight. Do we have a list to win a flag, no. Have we paid the same or similiar amount to power clubs like Geelong with their star studded lists of the last twenty years without any success, yes. Join the dots PC.
  8. Get ready to get howled down for having a stab at a contract figure here. The PC brigade hate anything that is not official or cannot be substantiated by the top brass.
  9. Too true. The Club and some people here were unable to read the tea leaves this season and saw no urgency to our plight.
  10. After lockdown go to Carlton and see their facilities. It feels like a footy Club. It might also be about selling a vision.
  11. Langdon with Smith and Baker. as wingman. Something old, something new and something in between equals balance.
  12. The old guard on here are just that, out of touch with the reality of modern professional footballers. Part of it is they refuse to acknowlege players and their managers shop themselves around or the reality that Clubs have been approaching our players since 1965. Sure some of it does not come to fruition but it does not make it all hysteria and rubbish. I think Oliver and Petracca are the best talents we have had in decades, but in my opinion next year, everything is on the line. And I dont think just making making will be enough.
  13. If that is all he was thinking he would not have even considered the Geelong offer. his comments on re-signing are the feel good part of the negotiations. What is it that you and others here are so scared of facing about players looking at contract offers and finding their value and team role may be less than what they thought. Good for Jack, I hope he got a good deal, I would not have given him five years. His comments on Goody are troubling, very troubling, or extremely niave.
  14. So you sorta get the point without knowing it. probably busy in the Coburg tram dodging ticket inspectors. Successful Clubs attract good players for reasons of not only big salaries.
  15. Except for all the times it is correct. Frawley is leaving rumour, Howe leaving rumour, Hogan wants to go home. Dee interested in Lever, May,Langdon etc.
  16. So do you think Jacks manager came back to us after talking to Geelong, and gave them Geelongs true offer and said, match Geelongs offer and he will stay. Wow.
  17. What is there to surprise. players come in a draft lottery. Play for teams they did not support. Need to understand an sign contracts from a young age. meet a new set of mates at 18. A few years later the media calls those new mates, best mates as if they have bonded all their lives. A contract term runs out. You can stay with the Club that drafted you or choose to go to another Club that is wanting you. It is business. Many players who stay and are called loyal are just staying because the contract terms are better than they can get elsewhere. This is fact when you consider all Clubs pay basically the same player payments and yet the top clubs share the same pool as the poor performers.
  18. Fairly nasty response to me just saying what has been consitently reported. I am not aware of anyone here who knows of every contract players have but this is a site for opinions and my opinion stands that we will be paying Jack more and likely for longer than the Cats were prepared to. It is a fact the Cats have a philosophy of paying unders in the interests of team harmony and success. As for smarter, Geelong have a long standing record of being smarter and more successful than Melbourne, so take personalities out of it and decide who is smarter.
  19. My viewing of Brown the last few seasons is he has got skinnier. Not sure if it is just me and or if it has had an affect on his game or not. I know he is a committed family man and that may have played a part in his recent poor performance as his priorities have changed. Time will tell.
  20. It has been well reported that we gave Jack an offer, he then listened to the Cats offer. We increased our offer and he took our increased offer that was more than the Cats.
