I wonder if Gazza was a part of the creation of, or the carrying on of the soft culture, that was never fully snuffed out from the club under Barrassi. Barassi got a lot of it out, but it was such a mess. Northey helped a lot as well, but so many of the senior players, who started pre Barassi, were still infected from way back in their early years. So when we got strong it still inhabited the clubs being. >> Holywood Boulevard.and the like. I think it got worse under the time of Balme. And it certainly stayed around after Balme's time. Right thru til Neeld, in a way. I believe Neeld cracked the soft culture network right open, and left it bleeding, when he was removed... so in a way he was also a victim of this same culture. he removed some ofit but then he was sent packing before the job was completed. Maybe a bit of MfcSS stepped in to remove him because of fear of what he was doing. Certainly MfcSS from the outside of the club panicked at what was happening... and this in-turn made the admins panic, and start sacking people. The truth is now we will never know just what Neeld could have done with the rebuild. Because people panicked, and sacked him. What was left out of the rebels, was Watts for one, who was finished up a few years later, and he was a very self oriented player, who would only work when he was ready, and not before. Now Port can try with him. And god luck to them, they'll need it. After Neeld, Roos had a chance to do something great with the club, and we had pJackson at the helm, to steer things up top. IMO, were in the best position since Norm Smith was flung out, to resurrect this clubs aggressive Demon culture, and to put the soft rot into outer-space. We see today, the story of the same failings in Gawn as a young player, before he was woken up by being dropped, & a Roos comment, saying that he Roosy himself could have got 90 hit-outs, against that opposition. Around that time, there was also mentions of trading Gawn out, to the annoyance of many around Demonland. But the proof is now in the pudding... that we did wake up Gawndog, and he is not just a very good player now, but has earned the Mfc captaincy. Lets hope the same happens to both Petracca and to Brayshaw as well. They need some more heat under their rumps to continue firing them up. And some other young talents, following those Boys.

Former Dees Assistant Jennings Wants To Scrap VFL
MyFavouriteMartian replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
I am also of the boomer generation. but suffered a lot in younger years from bullying and becoming a doormat. With this, I do not have this want to be better than everyone else, but rather, the best i can do. Maybe, this is a part of community mindedness. the notion that we cannot survive without one another... hence the team... concept. My parents were not the most confident people, but were warm and friendly to all. An empathetic way of being. My uncles and aunties were not of the, I'm just so good brigade. So, I guess I am a product of this inbuilt genetics, to some degree. Kindness to a fault, to the vulnerable and down trodden. Cynical of the wannabees. I think struggle in early life is a very good character building way of life. Teaching some very good lessons, in forming the persons character. Having things too easy growing up, IMO, breeds a contemptuous style in many. . # I see a comparison in all of this, in the Mfc in some ways, and the wider perception of us, as a club. . -

Why, do you think this has occurred 'rj'? -
Lets hope the Tough-Love on Petracca during 2019, has the same effect. It looks /appears to be step in the right direction, so far.?

Mark Neeld's Spray on Morton.
MyFavouriteMartian replied to dazzledavey36's topic in Melbourne Demons
Green was a very ordinary leader. Morton was a failure under Bailey's time. non contact was a big mistake in Morton's development, just as it was with Bennell and Gysberts etc. Morton needed sorting out. It must have been 'fireup', or 'F' off. His moving on was a bonus for us. As was Bennell and so many others recruited under Schwab's time. Scully, no loss in real terms. I'm glad now he did go. Rivers ageing, Sylvia another adding to weak culture, Moloney again James McDonald was let go by the administration of Cuddles Schwab, etc. Not Neeld's doing. So Neeld is guilty of one thing,,, trying to get the layers to show some fight, like Watts Morton, Green, etc, and the likes of Moloney to show less fight and more leadership and healthy culture leadership. Neeld came into a basket-case club culture, and ripped it a new one... which set the door open for Roosy to enter, to start the real club rebuild. Neeld did us a huge favour, pulling the network of rotten and soft culture apart... Roos would not have come onboard if he had to do the dirty work. It would have reflected badly on Roos's CV, IF he had to do all that dirty work. # edit: Jnr Mac was the blunder and we pushed the best leader of our club out. He was the guy to lead the recovery, with young kids in Grimes and Trengove learning from his leadership. The footy dep't, F'd-up, big time. . -

After the Spanish flu, WW1 and Polio, people were very community oriented. These things are great levellers. And with borders to remain shut to O/S for some time, and import export to be much slowed... and the real possibiliyty of war breaking out, I PreDict we will start heading back into "being & buying Australian". I wonder if your selling Australians short.? Bigger pay-packets might not be available, for smaller leagues and association's. -

The ability and the desire for locals to support their local teams, at community levels lives on. I believe we will step back in time, 'as it were', to how we did things at a simpler time. Like community footy, and Sundays at the local VFA games. -

https://www.afl.com.au/news/433085/sanfl-to-resume-without-payments-to-players-coaches-or-umpires SANFL to resume without payments to players, coaches or umpires South Australia's state league football competition is moving closer to a return THE SANFL will effectively operate as an amateur league this year, with players, coaches and umpires working without payment. Competition chief executive Jake Parkinson confirmed on Sunday no club would be permitted to pay its players as part of the wider push to ensure clubs survive the global coronavirus pandemic. The only payments they will receive are from the Federal Government's $1500-a-fortnight JobKeeper package. "The salary cap will be for zero payment," Parkinson told ABC Grandstand radio. "We're going to have to exclude payments paid through JobKeeper but … quite simply, if it requires players being paid to go on the ground, we couldn't have a season. "Clubs are just not in a position to make payments to players right across all of our eight clubs, and from the very beginning, we've said we are looking to come through all of this with the SANFL and the SANFL clubs able to compete for another 143 years. "That's been the priority and the players said, 'Well, look, we want a season and if that means we go back on the ground and we don't receive payment, then that's what we'll do'. "That's been the vast majority of the players who've been in that position." https://www.afl.com.au/news/433085/sanfl-to-resume-without-payments-to-players-coaches-or-umpires -

Morton's as excited as Brucey boy... apparent from the 42 seconds to 44 second mark. I'm excited... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V8FiAhzKQOM -
Even after his 3 Reco's, he still turned his career around and became an excellent power forward. Being more an athletic tall half-forward, earlier. He became the true power-forward/ruck. Very effective and a handful for opposition's.

Pies Keen To Restart Season on Queen’s Birthday

Surely your not thinking that 'Edee McSquire', is a conniving, manipulative person, of selfish motives, are you, 'jb'.? -
Yes, I heard that he often left straight after a game, especially when he was concussed. He would slip out & home. I think his efforts as a coach, speak volumes for is understanding of players and culture standards, and commitment to team. He was highly successful in this area. We could have done with some of that. It saddens me that such a legend is often thought of and spoken of as just a one dimensional thug, when truth is he copped as much as he dished out. He was a product of the era which was rugged, and his career spread across changing times and social cultures. When we think of Ditterich, Biffen, or Grinter, and others who dished out a lot of punishing blows to opposition players, we mostly see things in a different light. Many coaches were a little aloof to the players in that day. For discipline reasons. Things are different these days, because people are different in mind and attitudes. and fragile ego's.

Carlton supporters on BigFooty, were saying 6 months prior to that end of season jaunt around the clubs, by Juddas granny; that he was already signed as a Bluebagger, before the Midseason.

Yes it is; the trust of fellow police officers, of VicPol, and of our whole community. Its utter gutter snipe stuff. And that officer has no business belonging with the police. He has to be sacked. But he will resign, before the charges are tested in court, no doubt. What the public needs, is for the charges to be tested, and for the actions seen to be delivered... to restore faith in our whole legal system. .

I don't see the advantage of bringing just one elite player, into a team of questionable culture. We'd already had extremely strong lists in preceding 7Yrs, without proper success from them. Bbut we did have a Holywood Boulevard locker-room, and associated ills.
-
Wow, that would have him (Leigh) heading to Melbournefc, at the same time as RdBarassi. Now that would have been a coup. I think, that one might have changed our fortunes. Leigh was strong enough, to really help change the culture of the club. Much needed help.

NOT if they do not work and live by their own law standards they don't, 'W4tA'. If they see a crime amongst their own, they should report it, but they do not. Why have those coppers, who received the photo's, reported it to their authorities, 'W4tA'. Why didn't they act responsibly.?This has only happened because it got into the media, and the Police leadership became aware of it through lawyers and ordinary people.
-
Sacked!... removed from the force is the only way for this breach of trust... to show other coppers that they need to show respect at all times. To everyone. Otherwise the police become the same as the churches... one rule for them, and other rules for the rest of us all. Not to mention, deaths in custody. There is another can of worms for coppers the world over.
