Jared Polec
This is pretty bizarre coaching if true? North has a seemingly endless supply of bigger bodied mids, why on earth would having Polec run with him help anyone?

North Axes 11
Fairly brutal from North. At least they finally have the stones to start again properly

Nathan Jones in 2021?
I think this probably tells us more about why he should not be considered for leadership than anything else. It’s hard to watch a club champion’s career come to an end, but he has offered very little for the last 2 seasons and was probably given 2020 as a show of gratitude for his efforts. He’s been the leader of the club for a long time, but probably was never questioned because we didn’t have any challengers or there was bigger issues to solve. Already you can see that May and Lever are more proactive as leaders and it shows how behind we were as a club in this area. For what it’s worth, I think Max is probably behind those two also

Jack Gunston
Except we don’t have the 4-5 classy experienced guys, which is what Gunston would be. He’s a serious upgrade on all those older blokes and keeps one of those listed above (Melksham) out of the side, so it’s win-win

Jeremy Cameron
I reckon they will let him go, just depends who is going to want to spend up and take him? I’d rather keep Whitfield, Taranto, Williams and Kelly over Cameron Geelong has been mentioned but would their ground suit him?

On field leadership
I am also big on this, we need others who can recognise and arrest the flow when opposition sides get a run on. The current mids/forwards are not smart enough to do this (or maybe they are coached to ignore it) May and Lever have been very good at directing and positioning the defence, now we just need a bit of guidance forward of the centre.

Chad Wingard
Interesting that Crawford suggests this. Surely the Hawthorn rebuild isn’t this big that they are dumping Wingard? I’ve seen talk this year that he isn’t entirely happy
-
Isaac Smith
And ANB & Bedford won ours, so time trials probably come a long way behind the experience in flags and leadership he would provide. He could walk in as our captain, leadership would be a step above any we have. Regardless, we need more leaders for driving standards

Charles Spargo - A Grade Small Defender (2021 Edition)
Think his tackling is actually quite strong for a guy of his size. Just worried about him being singled out against bigger bodies with proper heat on him. I do think he rises to the occasion, unlike many others

Jack Viney Restricted Free Agent
It’s probably extremely harsh, but that wasn’t a finals like performance from Jack with our season on the line. He tries out do too much and it’s often to the detriment of our team. Wish him well in the future and hope we get something useful from the transaction

Beware the Demons in the Ex-Captain Closet
Not sure he’s the best example for the kids to learn from

Jack Viney Restricted Free Agent
We are not going to the draft with any potential first rounder though, it will be to land a readymade player who improves our balance. Viney out and Williams in is a win-win for us.

Adam Saad
He’s an upgrade on Hibberd and Salem in terms of creativity, something we seriously lack. I think he’d probably have them both covered defensively too
-
Caroline Wilson on MFC rumblings
Same should apply for the playing group too

Do we want to chase Stephen Coniglio
Could see a scenario where Leon and Cogs orchestrate this as a rocket to the rest of the squad. If your captain can be dropped, that means every single player is vulnerable if their form dips. That’s exactly how it should be and exactly how we don’t operate
-
Brody Mihocek
As I mentioned in the Gunston thread, he’s an upgrade on Melksham/Fritsch/Hannan in every facet of the game. Worth asking the question. It’s surprising how many people are happy to settle with those 3 as our Pockets/Flankers. We should always be looking to get better and Mihocek brings a lot more physicality and consistent effort than those three, plus he actually kicks goals.

CHANGES: Rd 17 vs GWS
Goody can’t drop Melksham because they are buddies, but Leon Cameron is prepared to drop his captain on the eve of finals. There’s some actual ruthlessness

Jack Viney Restricted Free Agent
If the $650k figure is about where things are at then I’d happily let him walk. Big money for a battering ram and we have a bloke who is very similar and a little more rounded waiting in the wings in Sparrow.
-
Jack Gunston
I’d like to pursue it so we can bin Melksham. Drinks a little too much of his own bathwater and has not played a single really good game this year. Gunston is a definite upgrade on either of Melksham or Fritta

Jack Gunston
Think he’s exactly what we could use, smart operator and another matchup for sides to actually think about. Melksham Or Fritsch out and Gunston in
