  1. I don;t think the Lions will mind the rain They played Essendon in a deluge a few weeks back, played the conditions perfectly, surging the ball forward at every opportunity. Daniel Rich gained over 900 meters which was ridiculous given the circumstances.
  2. This should be a ripper. Lions made of sterner stuff and won’t fold as easily as the puppy dogs did last Friday. Lions on a 7-game win streak but they haven’t been really tested. I have no doubt our boys will turn up to play so the Lions will need to bring their A game tonight. It’ll be tight. I can’t see us winning as comfortably as we did last week. If we can split the clearance and midfield battle, our defensive structures hold and we kick straight then we’ll win. In the context of Top 2 this is an 8 pointer. Beat the Lions tonight puts 3 games between them and us. That would make us odds on to secure home finals. Dees by 10 points
  3. She's had a poor season last year but is a 3 time AA so i wouldn't call her inconsistent. Valid comments regarding disruption and salary but if Daisy is happy to get on board that's good enough for me.
  4. I first took notice of her when she absolutely monstered us when we played Carlton the season before last. A 3 time AA she's exactly what we need, a dominant key forward. Perfect replacement for Tegan Cunningham. It went pear shaped for her at Carlton this year with many questioning her attitude. Hopefully she's focused and has her mind on the job because a fully firing Tayla Harris makes us flag favorites i reckon.
  5. He's an Essendon supporter and typical of Essendon supporters he's getting ahead of himself
  6. This timing couldn’t be worse for us but being top of the ladder and a great chance of a flag will do wonders for our bottom line. Extra memberships and sponsorships will compensate for the loss of gate receipts. The best financial objective for us at the moment is to keep winning games of footy.
  7. Our 2 biggest money-spinning games of the year Hopefully the Alice game can be played later in the season. QB will need to be re-scheduled to later in the year (and hoping Covid is back under control) or else played inter-state. The Big freeze is a big drawcard so if moved inter-state can still attract a large crowd, circa 30,000+ in Adelaide perhaps, so could still generate a reasonable financial outcome or at least cushion the blow.
  8. Our rock solid defence trumps their forward threat Dees by 20 points
  9. Fantastic news. a heart and soul player. Has found a spot up forward which plays to her strenghts and footy smarts. Hoping she can win a flag before she retires
  10. He’s had a few poor games for sure. His dribble non-kick and casual defensive efforts against Adelaide left me fuming. But 25 snags is not to be sniffed at. Not too many other med sized forwards can boast that amount of goals.
  11. Fritsch with 25 goals thus far wouldn't be far off. Definitely make the 40 man squad.
  12. First up, I’ll acknowledge the fact the fixture is compromised anyways because of the 17-5 split which has a big bearing on final standings. But that aside. We know home ground advantage is real. We saw it work in full effect when we played Adelaide. Apart from the home crowd influence there are ground conditions, dimensions and also the travel factor which all advantage the home team. To maintain fair and even competition teams typically play each other home and away alternately. It’s the way its done in all leagues the world over. There are exceptions such as playing games in developing markets and selling games for financial purposes. Both of these exceptions are quite prevalent in AFL but I can’t think of too many overseas examples. Definitely not in any big European leagues. If teams play more games at home they gain an unfair advantage. What’s to stop financially secure clubs taking advantage of smaller clubs. Secure more home games increases their chances of success. Compromises integrity in my view and shouldn’t be allowed. I get financial security is vital and I understand why clubs sell their games but if financial considerations drive these decisions then the whole league financing model needs to be re-visited.
  13. There's an integrity issue which outweights the financial considerations. If you allow Melbourne to sell it's game to Brisbane where will it end? Will North start selling games or Gold Coast. Selling a game to NT and other developing areas is one thing but selling to a direct rival is something else entirely. It can't and won't be allowed.
  14. Brave as a lion and plays 2 inches taller than he is. Great hands and has improved his goal kicking this year. I get as frustrated as anyone when he doesn’t do some of the team stuff (I was fuming with his dribble non-kick in Adelaide and for burning Trac in the process) but he’s kicking goals at the moment. On track for a 50 goal season which is outstanding so I’ll forgive him his defensive lapses.
  15. They are unwatchable at the moment. I don't blame the pies supporters for not turning up.
  16. Perhaps we could somehow seed Covid in those states. Level up the playing field. (Only joking of course)
  17. We could always set aside a few thousand doses (1st and 2nd jab) and vaccinate the players and club staff. Would that mean we can cross state borders (i'm not sure of the rules)? I'm in the 40-49 age bracket (still trying to book my vaccination appt time) and i certainly wouldn't object to this as long as vulnerable groups aren't disadvantaged.
  18. Nah. You make some valid points but it's a bad idea overall. Smacks of hubris, over-confidence and pride before a fall. Why give the Lions a leg-up, they’re 8-3, their home form is very impressive. What if they beat us and it gives them a psychological advantage for later in the year. Imagine the scorn and ridicule from the media and rival fans. Why take that chance unnecessarily? The cost benefit doesn't work for me. If we can’t play them in the Alice (still my preference) then play them in Sydney.

    Because it's good fun t_u.
  20. I thought his break out game was the final against Geelong in 2018. Although starting to look more like a false dawn unfortunately.

Super player but can't see how we manufacture a trade or fit him into the cap
  22. Bonus points to anyone who can make a pun from Tchaikovsky
  23. Agree. Hopefully they replace Brayshaw soon as well.
  24. Needs to drop at least 5 kegs. Reckon West Coast are the unfittest team in the league. We'll run all over the top of them we we play them later in the year.
  25. I'm not going to shout for Essendon rather i'm going to shout against the Eagles. Conscience clear.
