Spot on. This "deserve to make finals" notion is rubbish. Teams "deserve" to make finals if they are amongst the top 8 performers in terms of wins and % over the course of the season. The final 8 concept sees nearly half the teams make the finals - inevitably this will admit teams that are not top-tier in any given year. Arguments could be made for a 6-team finals system in an 18-team competition, but that's another conversation. Go Freo!
