The Southern stand of the MCG is getting torn down next year . The new infrastructure is going to cost 70 million dollars. Also the 3000 new police will soon get will cost the state 200 million per year. Andrews is going to bankrupt this state.

Feels like only yesterday that they built the "Great" Southern Stand. What's the new one going to be called? The Greater Southern Stand?

I think (hope) we'll see more of this Weid now we have another genuine key post to give him the freedom to roam.

His tackle nailing Dangerfield near the boundary at around the 1.50 mark still gives me goosebumps.

Take with a grain of salt but there's a rumour doing the rounds that Petracca has been asked to stay on the Gold Coast by Gil and the execs, who counted the votes early to ensure broadcast access to the victor. All but confirming that Petracca has, at the very least, tied the thing.

Sounds like bollocks. If any shred of truth to this it would be that the afl want the predicted top several or so in a room together for broadcast purposes. Very unlikely given the number of wins we had that Trac will have polled enough to tie with or better Neale.

Sounds like I am in the minority here, but I’d love Ablett to finish with a flag. He has been an unbelievable player for so long now, still having an impact in big finals after 350+ games.

Grew up around the time him and his group started in the cats VFL side, have always followed them from afar since.

Plus, I absolutely do not like Richmond. They are a real smug bunch and their two big forwards would be in my top 5 most disliked players in the comp.

    Go the Catters

I'd be on board with a cats win - Ablett certainly has been something special, but I wouldn't mind Dangerfield pinging a hammy in training - I'm not sure I could handle a premiership medallion around that neck.

Haydn Bunton and Robert Flower are dead so they’re not saying anything. Yes they were all elite players but never achieved the heights of a premiership. While speaking with them why don’t you ask how they feel about that?

Premierships are won by teams. Mediocre players have premiership medallions, undisputed titans of the game have gone without. The assertion that a player can only be considered "great" if they've won a flag is nonsensical when considering some of the Hall of Fame players without one. E.g. Paul Roos. 350+ games, 7 time All Australian, 2x All Australian captain. Zero flags. Not a great? Ridiculous.

  6. Deelighted to hear this news - he looks right at home at AFL level - in his debut game he seemed to have more time than M Waugh or Gower, and the way he stepped up in the dying minutes in those games towards the end of the year showed extraordinary will to win.

I've been super excited about Rivers since the moment as a draft prospect he was described as being a great kick running out of defence. He should play 200+ games. I hope he tells WC and Freo to f$ck themselves and plays them all in the Red & Blue.

Leppitsch, Yze, I.Smith, B.Brown and Polec add that to the class we already have in Petracca, May, Viney, Langdon, Oliver and Gawn that makes us a super team. So enjoy the ride ladies and gentleman because the flag is for us to lose next year GO DEES!

At least 4 of those names are negligible chances to be at Melbourne next year.

Thought his achievements this year are worthy of special acknowledgement:

    • Keith "Bluey" Truscott winner
    • AA team on first nomination
    • 2nd in the AFLCA coaches award which was won by Neale
    • 3rd in the MVP awards, second to Neale and Boak

Reflecting on those in total: he is voted the best by club coaches, AA by 'independent' AFL figures, top 2 by all coaches that saw him play and 3rd by his peers; some 800+ players.

He has been building to this for several years and as he said has areas to improve and won't that be awesome!

He graciously credited teammates, coaches and fitness staff at the Bluey.  He has carried himself with maturity and humility.

For the first time in eons we not only have a club champion we have an AFL champion, an elite player.  Regardless of how mfc fortunes go in future he will be a joy to watch and people will go to games just to see his class.

    Rapt for him.

Great summary!  Neale has 3 years on him - Trac has time on his side to be absolutely anything.  A very exciting few years ahead for Trac, and I hope a few more of his team-mates take a leaf out of his book and dare to put in the work to achieve their own slice of greatness.

  9. 100% absolutely not.  We're fortunate Brayshaw managed to come back from his nasty concussion a few years back.  We are also paying a 3 year contract on KK who won't add to his 2 games for us in early 2019 thanks to a return of his concussion issues.  Australian Rules football is a contact sport - head knocks are difficult to completely avoid, and McCartin has by all accounts been horrifically debilitated during his protracted recovery from his last head injury.

For his sake, let alone ours, let us not go down this path.

You mean the way he tackled Shuey almost around his waist before Shuey flat out cheated?

Rubbish.  His right arm makes contact at shoulder height and the only direction it's going from there when the tacklee tries to break it is upwards.

Not sure where else to put this.

A mate has messaged me saying Tom Browne has claimed Carlton is actively pursuing Petracca because apparently he is unhappy.

I called BS given he signed a contract in Feb. Plus search across Twitter, Bigfooty, Google, everywhere has yielded zero results. Nothing on Tom Browne Twitter either.

Asked him where he heard it and he's stalling. Is he pulling my chain?

    Yes
