  1. There's already a pretty big 'curtain raiser' on.
  2. Demonland logic: 'Luke Jackson is not even that good, so we should trade him for heaps of 1st round picks....'
  3. So you reckon Lever and Turner as our only key defenders, and then Petty, Brown and Brown, with Jackson to rotate, all playing forward? Nah.
  4. Whatever version it was, all of them are around not playing in a grand final.
  5. They're never going to be the 'news breakers' in a situation like this, they'll always be cautious.
  6. I agree both deserve support. But... Here's an example of the differing narratives already: How will history remember Steven May the person? This is where things become a bit more complicated. Many players go through their careers without an off-field blemish. May, clearly, is not one of those. The now much-publicised incident in which the 30-year-old was involved in a boozy scuffle with teammate Jake Melksham is, unfortunately for May, not his first rodeo. Indeed it is not even his first alcohol-fuelled fight with a teammate. Back in 2013, when May was still a youngster with the Gold Coast Suns, his jaw was broken by veteran Gold Coast antagonist Campbell Brown in a tussle during a late-year trip to the United States. Brown, who himself had priors, was sacked for his role in the dust-up, but May also apologised for his part in the scandal. In 2019, May apologised to Demons teammates after it emerged that he had been drinking while injured, only a few months after the Dees had paid a heavy price to acquire him via trade. Melbourne did not formally sanction May over the incident, which came against a backdrop of him dealing with personal turmoil. At that stage, Melbourne was languishing near the foot of the ladder and May was shaping, albeit early, as a failed recruit. Steven May’s reputation for off-field drama rivals his on-field stature as one footy’s best and toughest backmen “What the Doggies have to do is make sure this kid is OK because he is going to be rock bottom right now,” Hodge told SEN. “There will be out there saying yeah so he should be and fair enough in that opinion, but the most important thing for the next few weeks or few months while he is trying to improve or make up for any mistake he might have done, he is going to be rock bottom. “It is a big job for his friends and his family and the Western Bulldogs and they need to look after him.” An AFL great has called on the Western Bulldogs to check on the welfare of Bailey Smith
  7. Disagree. The narrative is already being shaped: May - 'He has history this bloke. Horrible look. So much damage. Obviously a trouble maker....' Smith - 'We need to think about his mental health. Poor fella must be struggling. Needs our support...'
  8. Just to clarify, you have quoted the title of the paper, which is the assertion being tested, not the conclusion of the study. The actual finding from that one is: "Conclusions: Alcohol may not significantly alter long-term outcome from mild to moderate TBI." But for reference, that study is from 2016. If you look at more recent reputable studies most, if not all, say that while the specific data isn't clear yet, the surrounding data around concussion and alcohols effect on the body and brain make it abundantly clear you should not drink after a concussion until at the very least a medical professional has advised it's safe to do so. Given May was under protocols from medical professionals as to when to not drink, I think it's safe to say what their recommendation is for concussion recovery. Of course, this also doesn't take into account that data shows you're more likely to drink more when concussed (if you choose to do so), and more likely to cause yourself another concussion if drunk. Pretty surprised anyone can argue it's not a bad idea really.
  9. “Gary Pert is a complete man of integrity. I’ve got no behavioural issues. Gill McLachlan and Richard Goyder do a fantastic job of running our competition. “Join the dots and work out where it’s coming from.”
  10. If you google it, there's a ton of articles about drinking while recovering from concussion.
  11. Not sure, but would think they'd give Petty up until team sheet o'clock to prove his fitness. Could be in for Tommo, could even be for Lever who doesn't look 100%. Interesting week for selection.
  12. Evidence or not, that's what the rules are and May knew them. But for the sake of said evidence: A standard concussion timeline looks something like this: Injury day. About 3-5 days later, your symptoms reach their peak (worst). Within 7-10 days, your symptoms should be resolving. Then, within 21-33 days, your brain metabolism should be back to normal. Source: How long after a concussion can you drink alcohol?
  13. Yep, I used to think 'Gee Goody is so boring in pressers', but these days it's more 'Thank god Goody is so boring in pressers'... Although, his whack in regards to 'joining the dots' was a little peek into his internal thoughts IMO.
  14. One of those fake messages pops up with nearly every footy controversy, don't get sucked in mate.
  15. The silence after that was so dramatic!
  16. Goody presser about to start, should be interesting given the week it's been. Hope he copes ok tbh, he hates pressers at the best of times.
  17. Paging @Demonstone ;)
  18. No info, but Disco is more a Lever-type than a Petty-type IMO, so I wonder if Lever is not 100%?
  19. Yeah, first thought was 'Oh I'm sure THIS time you have the story right...'
  20. Third, probably more chance if it had happened inside the restaurant...
  21. "It is believed May attended another Prahran nightspot after being hit by Melksham." 'Violence is never the answer': AFL to probe May-Melksham fight Far out.
